Ah, what a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the clouds were moving away, and the gym was open. Sakka walked into the large building and walked past the weights and onto the sparring mats. There were several rings, each 20x20 ft, and completely open. The ceiling was high enough that it would not be an issue while training. He selected an unoccupied ring, and set his water bottle down, removing his sword from its sheath. He had decided to wear a different outfit than he normally did. Today he wore standard black gi, and black pants, both made of sturdy cotton. He took his blade in his right hand, and held it in front of himself, blade perpendicular to the floor. He then began to practice one of his many training forms. He began with slow, precise motions, then gradually got quicker, soon moving from one position to the next with fluid grace. He was oblivious to all around him, only his sword mattered. |

Mugen arrived at the same time as always. He walked into the gym silently and headed straight for the lockers. He moved routinely, as if he’d done this hundreds of times before. Which he had. He unstrapped his jacket and his pouch and put them in the locker. He only had his black, tight clothing and his staff. Only after his beginning routine did Mugen look around the gym to see who else was there today. It was fairly vacant. There weren’t many people and most of them were on the weights. The fools. They worried more about looking muscular than being strong. Mugen started to walk towards the cardio section. They had a nice contraption made just for ninjas. A treadmill that can go much faster than a regular one. Mugen usually did a stretch, then a two hour run and then some freeform excercises, and then finally, he’d hit the weights. Today, however, something caught his eye. As he walked to the cardio section, he saw a familiar face in the sparring ring. Mugen smiled as he recognized the genin. Taking a break from routine, Mugen removed his staff from his belt and moved to the rings. He was going to call out to the genin, but the look on his face was one of utmost concentration. The boy wasn’t too bad with his sword, but he was far from an expert. Daringly, Mugen suddenly leapt forward into the ring, landing right in front of the Takahashi as he lunged forward. As he did so, Mugen reflexively flicked one half of his staff to the side of the blade. He threw it expertly, hardly putting any force into the actually throw, but throwing it expertly and sharply. The impact would be enough to push the sword away so that it slipped right beside his body. “Hello, Sakka-san.” |

It took Sakka a few seconds to realize that he had returned to reality, and that he had just attacked someone. He dropped his sword in embarrassment and dropped his gaze. “I’m sorry. I didn’t see you there.” He said truthfully. “I was kind of… not there… if you know what I mean.” Sakka got like that sometimes. He would get so into training that he would forget his surroundings and begin to attack real enemies. Well, they were real to him. He didn’t even know who it was that he had attacked. He just hoped it wasn’t someone too important. |

Mugen smiled at the young genin as he apologized, still not returning to normal enough to even recognize who it was he had just attacked. “Don’t worry about it. I know how it is, you get so into your training that you block out the rest of the world. Glad to see somebody training so diligently. Plus, I was the one that jumped into the middle of your training. Wanted to say hello. How are you, Sakka-san” Others might find it weird that Mugen called the genin Sakka-san instead of -chan, but he didn’t care. He felt Saka deserved to be treated as a jounin, considering he acted better than most jounin in kumo. |

Sakka’s eyes widened as he looked up. He recognized the voice, and only one man called him –san. “Mugen-sama! I am so sorry. I didn’t… I mean… I was…” He couldn’t get the words out. He was so embarrassed. Even though it was not his fault, and no one got hurt, he still felt terrible. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Mugen smiled at the flustered genin. It was strange how this boy resembled himself. “Don’t worry about it Sakka-san, I’m the one who jumped in here wondering if you’d be up for a sparring session. I usually train alone because there’s simply nobody dedicated enough to train with, but with somebody as energetic as yourself, I don’t see why not.” | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Sakka blushed in embarrassment, his eyes averting to a nearby weight set. "I'm not worthy of being your sparring partner, nor am I capable. You would gain nothing from such a venture." He paused for a moment, thinking of all that he could learn from fighting with this ninja. He could teach Sakka so much. It couldn't hurt to train for a few minutes, could it? After thinking it over, Sakka looked back up at Mugen and said, "But... If you still want to, I am not opposed." Hey, who knows, this just might be fun. He thought to himself. |

Mugen scoffed jokingly at the genin's modesty. "One can always learn, even if the opponent is an imaginary baby. Plus, i'll also be getting a regular work out from it." Smiling as sakka agreed, Mugen stepped back and connected his staff, holding it in his right hand, letting it rest against his arm. With his other hand, Mugen beckoned for sakka to attack. |

Sakka knew that he would have to attack first. After picking up his sword he walked to the opposite side of the ring and bowed to Mugen, then took his stance. His blade pointed to the ground, his knees bent slightly, his body like a bowstring, ready to snap. After a moment of searching his opponent for any possible openings, Sakka began to slowly advance, step by step, ready and waiting for his opponent's movement. Sakka was not fast, nor was he strong, but even if he was, it wouldn't matter against this foe. When he was close enough, he twisted his blade wrist and brought up the blade as quickly as he could, aiming for his torso. |

Mugen held back his smile as he watched Sakka move forward cautiously, searching Mugen expertly to look for openings. Mugen couldn’t care less about winning, he wanted to make sure he could help Sakka in some way, maybe a tip or something of the sort. When Sakka went on the offensive, Mugen reacted mostly out of reflex. He swung his arm downward and hit the flat of the blade that was aiming towards his torso, lowering its trajectory and sending it slightly to the side, letting him simply sway to the opposite side and get out of the way. As he dodged, he quickly relaxed his grip on the staff, letting it slide down and increase its range before giving it a quick flick of the wrist, sending the end of the staff aiming for the back of Sakka’s knees. The move wasn’t powerful, nor was it meant to be, but it was aiming perfectly at the spot that would cause Sakka’s knees to buckle. Mugen wanted to try and help with the idea that power and speed weren’t needed to win, if you had technique, you had the key to victory. With that last move, Mugen pulled back his staff and waited for Sakka to retaliate. Subtly, however, he also started to drop his left guard a little. He made sure not to make it too obvious so that only somebody who was smart would be able to notice it. He was pretty enthusiastic about teaching Sakka something useful and hoped this would work. |

"Woa!" Sakka said as he fell to his knees. The attack had caught him off guard. He felt no frustration from the attack. He was fighting a jounin, and could not hope to win. This was all about learning. It was like the academy. If he didn't get something right away, he would simply keep trying until he did get it. Sakka got up off of the ground and turned to face his opponent. He decided that it would be better to simply attack rather than look for an opening. After all, a jounin's defense should not be so feeble as to be picked apart by a mere genin. With this in mind, Sakka walked forward toward Mugen and, once he was close enough, began the most complicated seriese of attacks he could think of, implementing slashes, stabs and kicks, along with trying to parry and dodge any attacks thrown at him. |

Mugen watched carefully. He was slightly disappointed that the boy didn’t notice his opening, it seemed he was going with the more desperate strategy of going all out and hoping something hit. It made sense though, considering it was a genin fighting a jounin. Skillfully, Mugen dodge, blocked and diverted most of the attacks. Subtly, however, he let small attacks hit the side where he had left an opening. Two kicks were allowed to slam into his side and one of the slashes managed to glaze it as well and draw out a trickle of blood. At the blade injury, Mugen responded how he should respond, so that the boy wouldn’t notice that Mugen was allowing these attacks to reach. Mugen snapped out with his staff and aimed for the boys opposite side. The attack wasn’t fatal, but it would be powerful enough to knock the wind out of him if it didn’t connect. If the attack connected, Mugen would step back and touch the fresh wound with his hand before looking up at Sakka with a smile. “Nice.” |

Sakka was pleased to see that at least some of his attacks were landing, but knew that Mugen was going easy on him. When the staff came whistling through the air, however, Sakka was too slow to block or dodge. He tried to bring his blade around, but was not fast enough. The attack connected and, as intended, knocked the wind from the boy’s chest. He dropped his sword and grabbed the spot that had been struck. He fell to his knees and placed his free hand on the training mat for support. For a few painfully long moments, Sakka couldn’t breath. After about ten seconds, however, he was able to get a little bit of oxygen into his lungs and from there, slowly began to reduce his racing heart beat and regain composure. He was finally able to stand up, but then gripped his bruised side in pain and fell to one knee. He looked up an Mugen and said, “I do believe our sparring match is over, Mugen-sama.” |
