Oklahoma

* Nic H. - nice hit on BJames on WR screen. INT on pass to sideline. Slow throw and he jumped the route from a mile away. Facemask penalty on run play.

* Lendy H. - Missed tackle on Harvin's long run. Poor angle, effort.

*

* Iglesias - Had a deep ball come his way early in the 2nd, but wasn't able to hold onto the ball. Broke a tackle along the right sideline and got extra RAC yds. Had a pass taken from him when he couldn't cleanly secure the ball.

* M. Johnson -

* Gresham - Good 1st half. Caught the ball well and looked athletic. Dropped a pass when DB hit him just after ball arrived. Ran over one tackler after short dump pass. Didn't get 1st down, but added a couple of RAC yds.

* Loadholt - Good 1st half. Looked quick off the ball. Looked focused, active.

* Duke Robinson - Played like crap. Got little push. Got beaten by athletic DL. Dumb penalty for pushing player. Bad holding call wiped out a nice gain.

Florida

* Jim Tartt - started, but limited PT because of a shoulder injury.

* Harvin - caught pass on crossing route on opening 3rd down and turned it into nice gain down the sideline. Nice burst, ran well. Had short TD run when he lined up at QB. Ran very well throughout the game. Had a couple of long runs.

* Murphy - TD catch.

* Tebow - Threw a terrible pick to the right sideline. Slow delivery and throw. Threw a pick over the middle on a zone blitz. Made some very good throws on WR screens and over the middle.

*

* Spikes - Quiet 1st half.

Darrius Heyward-Bey

He is the #3 WR in this draft class. Excellent combo of size (6'2, 208) and speed. Very dangerous guy when he gets out in the open. He can turn a short play into a 40-yd gain in a hurry. Maryland threw short stuff to him to take advantage of his RAC skills, but also got him the ball downfield. Has good hands. Adjusts well to the ball and can make athletic catches.

My only concern with him is that he's not smooth. He doesn't catch the ball with ease. He doesn't make fluid moves. He's sorta herky jerky with everything he does. That may or may not be a big deal at the NFL level. The last couple of years I've focused on seeing how naturally guys can do things. DeSean didn't have the fastest 40 in Indy last year, but he had the smoothest. He looked like he was running 3/4 speed. That carried over to the field this year. He was able to do things and make them look easy. DeSean was always under control.

I think DHB will be a top 20 pick. He is big enough to be effective on short routes and over the middle. He's fast enough to stretch the defense and make big plays.

Beckum - Plucks the ball naturally. Works the middle of the field very well. Can catch the ball and take an immediate hit. So focused on the catch that he isn't bothered by the defender. Has good RAC ability. Adjusts well to the ball when its up or down.

Willing blocker. Won't drive guys off the ball. Can occupy them. Had a really good block on the edge vs DB Malcolm Jenkins in the OSU game.

Urbik - Just solid. Moves his feet well enough for G. Uses his hands very well. Gets on the defender and rides him in or out, depending on the play. Powerful enough to knock guys to the ground out in space. Mainly does short pulls. Has some pop when he blocks. Will manhandle his guy at times on run plays.

PJ Hill - Dropped pass in space. Has some athletic ability. Jumped over a fallen defender on a run play. Good on chip blocks. More nimble than you'd think. Good short TD run vs OSU. Got the ball and started right. Read his blocks as he headed right. Saw a gap, planted his foot, and bulled his way into the endzone. Drove a LB into the endzone on the play.

Pressley - Good lead blocker. Has pop. Pass blocking needs work. Must sustain better. Speed? Looks slow to the target on runs.

Casillas - Stuffed Wells on a TFL. Just filled a gap and held his ground.

Matt S. - Good tackler. Played DT in some sets.

Newkirk - Way undersized, but does use his hands well. Fights off blocks better than I expected. Small, but only a limited athlete.

Langford - Plays the ball well.
______________

Laurinaitis - Knocked back Urbik when he charged upfield vs run.

Washington - Good awareness. Looks athletic. Plays outside and in the slot. Can be physical with receivers.

Freeman - Looks athletic. Solid in coverage.

B Wells - Big butt. Okay vision. Long run vs Wisc. Started up the middle, then broke it right by a step. Eluded diving CB tackle attempt and took off. Got forced out of bounds about 50 yards later. Upright runner. Good speed. Downhill runner. Good stiff arm.

Robiskie - Caught a short pass and got 5 RAC yds. Runs good routes. Hands catcher.

Hartline - Effective in the slot. Good hands. Nice combo of size and speed. Looks pretty fast.

I broke out some 2007 tape to look at a couple of guys. I wanted to see Eben Britton playing RT and I wanted to see Brandon Gibson playing on a team that was competitive.

Britton looked good at RT. He seemed more natural there than he did a LT in '08. Unfortunately I still had some of the same problems. He spent the entire game in a 2-pt stance. He did very little other than pass block or try to wall off his DL on run plays. I'd love to see him pull or get out in space on screens. He does have a quick first step. He's got good feet. Not great, but good. He's too upright at times, but being 6'6 and playing in a 2-point stance all the time can cause that.

Gibson was impressive. He fights to get off press coverage. He runs good routes and knows how to get open. He has excellent hands and can make really difficult catches. I saw him pluck a ball inches from the ground. There are two main problems with Brandon. He isn't as smooth or agile as I'd like. I'm also not sure about his speed. He didn't show the ability to run by DBs or get deep in the game. At this point he looks mainly like a possession receiver. That's not a bad thing, but it does lower his value.

Rashad Jennings - Liberty

Okay vision. Will trust the play. Pushes the pile. N-S runner, but has cutback ability. Doesn't run like he's just a big power back. Will use his athletic ability. Biggest thing he lacks is top speed. Gets to the 2nd level, but doesn't have the speed to just run away from defenders. Has pretty good feet for a bigger guy. Caught 1 pass in the first game I saw. Snatched a pass in the left flat. Looked pretty natural catching the ball. Blocking needs work. Likes to cut block. That is dangerous in the NFL unless you are really good at it.

Dominic Bolden - 5'10, 175

Dangerous with the ball in his hands. Quick, elusive. Has a good burst. Lacks great speed, though. Has pretty good hands.

Jason Smith --- Former TE. Has quick feet. Excellent frame. Really kicks his left foot out quickly. Has excellent body control. Can fire off the ball quickly on run plays. Extends his arms into the defender to control him. Mostly plays in a 2-point stance. Has good body lean when he blocks. Calm. Sinks his hips as he engages a defender. Keeps his feet active after locking on.

William Beatty --- Excellent run blocker. Plays with great leverage. Gets under the pads of the defender and then locks on with his hands. Tenacious. Pulls well. Always keeps a wide base. Physical blocker. Fires off the ball on run plays.

Against Baylor...put a blitzer on the ground with a physical shot.

Donald Brown --- Keeps his feet active. Pretty good vision. Will use a stiff arm, but isn't great. Doesn't go down on first contact. Slashing runner. Dangerous when he's able to build up a head of steam and has some room to run. Pass protection needs work. Effort is okay, but technique needs help.

Darius Butler --- Will aggressively hit and tackle. Got a punishing shot on the Baylor QB on a rollout pass. Got another big hit on the QB on a similar play in the 4th Qtr, but drew a roughing the passer penalty. Questionable call.

SO. MISS

# 66 Ryan McKee - Plays RT. Looks sorta skinny. Comes off the ball well. Has pretty good feet. Uses his hands well.

# 1 Shawn Nelson - Solid blocker. Can take on DEs. Good hands. Can pluck the ball.

# 24 Gerald McRath - Had a FF vs Auburn. Shed block of the OL and hit the RB, then ripped the ball loose in the act of wrapping him up. Plays under control. Takes good angles. Wrap-up tackler. Doesn't run around blockers. Solid in pursuit.

AUBURN

# 1 Brad Lester -

# 94 S. Marks - Used his hands well to get off blocks. Quick. Knows how to penetrate. Can be very quick off the ball. Has a medium, athletic build.

# 8 J. Powers - Good awareness. Okay tackler. Good hitter.

NEBRASKA

Murtha - 76 RT - Athletic guy. Good on the 2nd level. Not a gifted pass blocker. Has a little bit of a nasty streak. Too off balance at times. OTG too much. Vulnerable to inside moves.

Slauson - 70 RG - Gets off the ball well. Solid drive blocker.

Swift - 87 - Tough. Will work the middle. Good hands. Can make tough catches. Adjusts well to the ball. Knows how to get open.

Peterson - 17 -

Lucky - 5 - Showed good patience on a toss play to the short side. Watched blocks develop, then fired upfield. Plucks the ball naturally. Very good receiver. Nothing special as a runner. Has pretty good speed. Okay body control. Will run up the middle. Doesn't behind his pads the way you'd like. Spends more time almost wiggling for yards.

Potter - 98 -

43 DT -

Glenn - 34 -

-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------

TEXAS TECH

Crabtree -

Reed 74 - LT - Lacks the athletic ability for LT. Does a solid job in the TT offense. Plays smart and looks technically sound. Can get to the 2nd level.

Vasquez 65 - LG - Good effort. More upright than you'd like a G to be. Doesn't look nimble on the move.

Woods - 2-

Williams - 84 - Good pass rusher. Very quick off the ball. Stays low when rounding the corner. Spin move is okay.

Ratliff - 98 -

Charbonnet - 10 - Good tackler.

McBath - 7 - Very impressive tackle vs Nebraska. WR caught a pass in the flat. McBath came flying up and took him down aggressively. Has okay awareness. Looks athletic. Inconsistent tackler. At times is too high. Made a good, strong tackle of Lucky on a toss play near the goal line. Plays the ball well.

CLEMSON

J. Davis - 1 - Can be elusive. Good receiver. Pretty good vision. Okay feet.

Kelly - 80 - Needs to play bigger, be more assertive.

Clemons 22 - Okay hitter. Should diagnose plays quicker. You see him around the ball a lot after the guy is already on the ground. Solid TFL near goal line vs WFU. Has good S-L speed.

Hamlin 25 - They play a lot of Cover 2, but Hamlin also comes up to the box quite a bit. Failed on a fake punt. Looks agile, athletic. Works his way to the ball, even in traffic. Wrap up tackler. Diagnoses plays well.

Jackson 91 -

Scott 97 - Nice build. Thick middle. Will pursue.

---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------

WFU

Boldin - 4 -

Curry - Good tackle out in space. Just finds the ball.

Arnoux - 43 - Okay range.

Robinson - 42 -

Patterson - 10 - Small, springy guy.

Vaughn - 9 - Good tackle out in space on an End Around. Got a big hit on Clemson WR over the middle and knocked the ball loose. Has pretty good range in coverage. Some times will play FS. Sees things well. Will get sloppy on the occasional tackle, but generally wraps up and puts guys down forcefully. Okay cover ability, but doesn't look to have great ball skills.

Smith - Will play up in the box. Great instincts, awareness. Always anticipating plays.
