I agree 100% with wil. I think the new GMs sould be allowed to trade in thier 1st week, because really, what fun is that? Also, a week in real time is like a month in-game which could screw some ppl over with the deadline or whatever. But i think something definately needs to be done to prevent rip-offs. Im glad someone (drew thanks ) stepped in when i was a newbie to stop me from being bent over!

I'm not sure it should be a rule as such, but GM's shouldn't do it. Being a new GM myself, i told the people who offered me trades early in my tenure that i was going to wait and see how my team performed before i decided to move anyone, it took me 2 weeks (in game) to make my first trade. I just thought that was good sense for anyone who came fresh into the league.
But it shouldn't be a restrction. It just makes sense for a new GM to work out his team before he does anythin crazy (Or at least it did to me).
