Blazers Weekly V.2

Welcome to yet another edition of Blazers Weekly. Today we will analyze the Blockbuster deal that took place involving The Blazers and Timberwolves.

The Story:

Many NBA analysts were shocked when they heard about this deal, not about the fairness of the deal, but rather the players involved. No one expected Greg Oden to be traded this soon, only after one game as Blazer, even though he was being shopped around. Oden was touted as the future for Portland after being selected as the Number.1 selection in the 2007 draft. But after missing out on the 2007 season, Portland got a bit upset , but still decided to keep their patience and wait yet another season, for their new franchise player to set foot on the court. Then in his NBA debut, after a mere 15 minutes, Greg Oden strained his abdominal muscle and got helped off the court by his teammates, only after playing less than 2 quarters in the NBA.

Oden - More time on the bench than on the court.

Blazers management lost their patience with Oden, and came to the decision that they had to get rid of him, after their horrendous 1-7 start, worst in the league. At first it was strongly rumored that Oden would be heading to Golden State for Samuel Dalembert and young stud Brandan Wright, along with a first round pick. After turning down this offer, Portland found the deal they were looking for.

The Trade:

In this deal the Blazers came away with the best player in the deal, and one of the most promising Centers in the league, Al Jefferson. Along with Al , they came away with the 8th pick in the NBA draft, Joe Alexander. Alexander should provide them with a special spark off the bench. In return , along with Oden they gave away SF Martell Webster, along with cash considerations, and 2 draft picks. This is good for Martell Webster, as he will get more playing time in Minnesota, and will look to become a more complete player.

This is the second blockbuster trade the Blazers have made this year, after aquiring Chauncey Billups earlier for Jerryd Bayless and Nicolas Batum

The Oden era ended earlier then everyone had expected, but Blazers fans are looking forward to the arrival of All Jefferson, who will actually play more than 15 minutes in a game.

Once again, thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more news regarding your Portland Trailblazers.
