![]() Milwaukee Bucks' Bangin' ; Start out 5 - 2. BY : Beat Writer JAY AUST |||| JAUST. August 10, 2008 // 8 - 10 - 2008 Milwaukee, WI --- When everyone else doubted, and no one thought it could happen, GM's questioned the teams trades, the one person who always kept faith was the team's GM's jaust. After pulling the trigger on the Odom trade many felt that the Lakers had "won" the deal and left the Bucks further then where they began their 5 - 8 preseason. One included, Kings GM criticized heavily on jaust.'s decisions and just laughed. Jaust. kept hope, and couldn't wait to see how his team turned out. Early in the wee hours of the morning before the season started, Jaust. made what was to be a key signing in Hilario Nene', a young player who could give depth at the weak Center position the Bucks possessed. Jaust. didn't expect much from Nene', signing him just as insurance in-case one of their previously and newly added centers (Brezec and Hawes) went down. To his and the team's surprised, Nene' quickly took the role of the backup center position and insurance was put to well use. Hawes has gone down and now Nene' starts as the team's center. An excellent "diamond in the rough" signing by GM jaust. ![]() Nene' Brings some defensive toughness to the thin Bucks' frontline. Otherwise, this team came out of the gate banging. After a weak preseason, going 5 - 8, GM Jaust. made a major decision trading newly signed Raymond Felton for a "make or break" player in Lamar Odom. Most GM's thought GM Jaust had made the wrong decision in this trade, but currently Odom has proved to play like an All-star putting up 18 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists while only giving up one turnover. Talk about efficiency. On the flipside, the Lakers have been performing well putting up a 7 - 1 record, while the newest Laker Raymond Felton has not been up to par only putting up 6 and 10 in 36 minutes, but also giving up the ball 4 times a game. Not so bad of a deal now, eh, doubters? While the newly inserted PG of the Bucks has exceeded expectations and is killing as the distributor of the team putting up 17 points a game while dishing 8 assists. The "Oh so terrible" deal for the Bucks has turned out to be quite the surprise to many around the league. After ten days into the season, and seven games through, the Bucks have put up a 5 - 2 record, good enough to be 3rd in the Eastern Conference and possess the 2nd overall record in the East. When many thought this team wouldn't even be competing for the playoffs, more like picking out position in lottery, this team is competing for the top spot in the East with a cast more motivated then ever to prove everyone wrong. ![]() Michael Redd pumps his fist to the Bucks' early season success. Four out of the five wins the Bucks have gained have been against Eastern teams, establishing itself as a power in the East. Leading the way is long-time Buck, Michael Redd who had this to say after it's most recent win, after blowing out the Nuggets 120 to 97, Redd said, "(laughs) It's funny. Around the league everyone was like, meh, the Bucks. Just another team. We're out to prove something. We're a new group with a new flavor and fire. The new GM has done a great job and has installed a great amount of confidence in this team and what we can do. Hopefully we can keep working hard and build from this." The artist to this great team seems to be enjoying his success watching his team prove doubters on, hoping it only continues and this isn't some early season fluke. When asked what he thinks about what's happened thus far he says with a smile, "You gotta just hope your decisions work out and not to listen to what other people say. We just hope our team just keeps working hard and that this success keeps coming. We're going to take it one game at a time and not look to far ahead into the hooplah and expectations and things of that nature. Hopefully it'll come our way is time goes on." Then asked about his promise that "no one is safe" on his team has changed, again he smiled saying, "We're going to do whatever makes our team better. If that means making minor changes, not making any, or trading Michael Redd for some crackers, we're going to do whatever makes this team better. (Chuckles)" No one expected this team to be nearly as good as it is, and now its for the hard part. For the team to keep working and bringing in success. Fans in Milwaukee finally have some success to cheer about and something to look forward to when the Bucks play in town. All everyone can do is hope it keeps coming and that this team gets better and better each day. As Team Captain Michael Redd said, their a "new group with a new flavor and fire". All we can hope is that this team's fire doesn't die out. Around the League: - Many teams are re-evaluating what to do with their teams now that the real season has gotten under way. - The Los Angeles teams (Lakers and Clippers) are leading the league with a 7 - 1 record, with the Hawks coming up short with a 7 - 2 record, then not close by are the Hornets ( 5 - 3 ) and Bucks (5 - 2 ) - Melo leads the league with 32 pts a game with Baron not trailing by far with 31. - Jose Calderon leads the league in assists with a mind blowing 14 assists per game, who also won player of the week twice. We'll have to see if he keeps that up as the season moves on. - Andrew Bynum is dominating the boards with 15 a game! With Camby, Chandler, and Odom not far behind with 14. - Overall exciting season so far, new powers in the league, we'll have to see how everything changes as the season goes on.
