![]() Milwaukee Bucks' Trade Felton & Mason ; Acquire 9 Year Veteran Lamar Odom BY : Beat Writer JAY AUST |||| JAUST. August 10, 2008 // 8 - 10 - 2008 Milwaukee, WI ---- Today Milwaukee Bucks General Manager jaust. announced that the team has acquired 9 year veteran Lamar Odom for recently added PG Raymond Felton, expiring athletic forward Desmond Forward, and Kings 2010 First. Jaust said shortly after this story was approved by Lakers GM Mike23, "We are glad to add Lamar to our team today. He brings versatility, strength, length, and power that this team has lacked thus pre-season." This trade is still waiting league approval and official Lakers Gm sign off, but there should be no reason why this shouldn't go through. The Bucks had put up a record of 6-10 this pre-season which the General Manager used as an overview of what to expect from this team. "We relooked over our team and saw the areas we needed to improve in. We weren't really happy with the outcome, hoping we would have a strong pre-season, storming into next. Obviously it wasn't great. When acquiring Felton, we didn't realize that the point guard competition would be as competitive as it was between Ray and Mo. But in the end, with our loyalty being with Mo after all these years he spent in Milwaukee, we decided he would be our man, making Ray expendable to our team. We wanted Ray to have the chance to prove himself elsewhere, since he is a young-excellent talent with a bright future. We didn't wanna hold him back, letting Mo flourish in our system. Although his stay was short, we wouldn't be where we are today without him, and wish him the best in Los Angeles" GM jaust. said. ![]() Odom will bring some much needed toughness to this Bucks roster. When asked what he was looking for out of this team, jaust. mentioned "bringing your game night in and out and playing hard no matter what" which he feels Odom will add to this team. Lamar comes off a year where his Los Angeles Lakers had lost in the NBA Finals in 6 games to a tough Boston Celtics who also ended up retooling their roster much as the Lakers did. The Lakers who once had a foursome of Kobe - Odom - Pau - Bynum, is now only left with Pau and Bynum from last years roster. The Bucks feel that Odom's playoff experience will be valuable to this young team and can be a savy-important piece to this Milwaukee Bucks puzzle. Lamar has been the talk of trade along with teammate Pau Gasol this preseason, but to his surprise, he ended up leaving. When Odom heard about this trade, he had this to say: "You know its tough. We had a great run here, and I guess the new GM wants to change things up. The Lakers wanna go young, it's time for me to move on. I'm excited to just play for the Bucks. They got a good thing that's going to happen there. A real good GM working on that team." Now, all that is needed is for the team to play well. With no games left in the preseason, Odom will have to adjust quick to the team so that they can start to get things going. Odom brings rings in close to a double double (14 and 9) and some decent defense that this team has also been weak at. Acquiring Odom immediately inserts him into the starting five, along with going back to Mo Williams who was the starter last year. The Bucks can now expect to be an even more of an outside team, bringing in more of a perimeter player rather then a standard back of the basket one. Odom will be able to play close to all five positions for this team, for his length and height make him dominant in the Eastern Conference. ![]() Brezec brings height and easily becomes the tallest on the team. Also added to this team was veteran 7 year veteran Primo Brezec to a minimum 1 year contract. GM Jaust said about his addition, "He is a serviceable big man who brings height to this small team. At a small cost, he will bring in energy and depth that we need at the center position." Adding him rounds the roster off to 12 after the Odom trade. GM Jaust. and the Bucks should look to add another big man as insurance in case one of theirs gets injured. Very thin at that position makes very little room for error and injury, so making a small-cheap addition wouldn't be a bad idea. Looks could be given to Reggie Evans, Jamaal Maglorie or Chris Mihm. Look for that to happen before or after a few games into the season. Overall this team should have a good foundation and ready to move forward with the guys they have right now. The team pulled off another surprising move, making the Bucks a make or break team next year. With an average-above average roster, how far is this team going to go? We'll have to see as the Bucks debut tomorrow to what kicks off a long exciting season. All we know is, GM jaust. will continue to improve this team at all costs. ![]() With more then half of last year's team gone, how will this team perform? Predictions for 2008-2009 Bucks Season: Starting 5: C : Spencer Hawes - 8 PTS - 10 RBS. PF : Lamar Odom - 15-16 PTS - 9-10 RBS - 6 ASTS. SF : Richard Jefferson - 21-22 PTS - 3-4 RBS - 2-3 ASTS. SG : Michael Redd - 23-24 PTS - 4 RBS - 3-4 ASTS. PG : Mo Williams - 14-15 PTS - 8-9 ASTS. - 1 STL - 2-3 RBS. BENCH: 6th : Marvin Williams 7th : Charlie Villanueva 8th : Corey Brewer 9th : Primoz Brezec 10th : Speedy Claxon 11th : Tyronn Lue 12th : Ramon Sessions Prediction Seeding : Anywhere from 6th to 10th Rumor Mill: Richard Jefferson could be traded with Mo Williams for a better PG/C. GM Jaust. still emphasizes that no one is safe and anyone will go for the benefit of the team. Around the League: - Dallas Mavericks cap off the Preseason with the best record in the league, not to far behind is the Boston Celtics leading the East. - Newly added Golden State Warrior Kobe Bryant led the league in scoring this preseason with 31 points a game followed by Lebron James ( 30 pts ), Deron Williams ( 28 pts ), and Baron Davis (27 pts) - ALOT of transactions this offseason around the league, with many teams changing the directions of their franchises moving key players and all-stars. - #1 Draft pick in 07' Greg Oden is up for trade. - Season kicks off tomorrow with many teams awaiting to see how their teams will perform.
