We are approaching the start the start of a new season, and are here to check-in on the Portland Trailblazers ahead of their pre-season opener. They made a big acquisition in Chauncey Billups, who is the veteran Point Guard they were looking for. Also, Greg Oden will be making his long awaited NBA debut, after missing his rookie season with an injury. So let's analyze the trade first.

The Blazers ended up getting the best player in the deal, Billups. But in order to get him, they had to ship away two promising rookies which they acquired on Draft Day, point guard Jerryd Bayless, and French shooting Guard Nicolas Batum.
This trade allows newly acquired SG Rudy Fernandez to be the full time starter at the 2. This trade also benefited the Blazers as they were able to get rid of the contract of Joel Pryzbilla. This trade gave the Blazers the veteran point guard they desired , and it gave the Pistons two young pieces to add to their current "rebuilding" process.

When asked how he felt about his new home in Portland, Billups replied, " I think this is a great oppurtunity for me. I've wanted to play in the Western Conference for a while, and im looking forward to leading this team, and playing with Brandon and Lamarcus, along with Greg, whose debut i am looking forward to. This is going to be a great season. Look out for us in the playoffs. L.A. , San Antonio, Dallas, Goldenstate, we're coming for you. "

Rookie Season : Pt. 2 ??

"With the 1st pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, the Portland Trailblazers select C Greg Oden, from Ohio State University"

This was one of the happiest moments in the lives of all Blazers fans. They couldn't wait for Greg Oden to step foot onto the Blazers court, and lead them to the playoffs, along with receiving Rookie of The Year honors. But all of these expectations were shortlived as Oden was ruled out of the entire season without even playing a single minute. Blazers fans were in a state of shock. They thought this was the year they would finally get over the hump. But with the injury of Oden their hopes were delayed another year. Even with the fantastic play of Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge, the Blazers lacked the inside presence that Oden was going to bring to their team.
Now we're approaching the 2008 season, and the scenario is the same. Greg Oden, now with his "second" rookie season coming up, is getting Blazers' fans hopes high yet again, but this time he expects to fulfill the teams needs and the expectations that are being set for him. " I am in the best shape of my life, and ready to help my team win."
So there we have it, will Oden rise up to the occasion and meet expectations? All this will be answered with the season starting in a couple of weeks.
