  • Just because some Legends actively search out belief like it was some kind of currency doesn't mean all of them do. Some are more than happy to stay in their home shard and help out - or rule - while others simply love the thrill of adventure; for them, just being able to live the life of a Legend is enough, with all the adventure and excitement it contains coupled with the relative safety of knowing that so long as even one person remembers you, you are immortal. Still others don't even worry about the concept of "Legend" in the least, completely focused on another goal entirely; searching for loved ones, finding a worthy opponent, even finding a way to divorce themselves of these powers to go back to their peaceful lives.

  • Very, very few Legends would outright tell you that they're collecting belief, and while many of them are flamboyant enough in combat or personality to gather it anyways, it usually isn't a driving focus of the character in and of itself unless it is a religious goal; most Legends don't even know how the system works unless told by an older and wiser Legend. Basically, if you create a character, don't just make them a 2d concept, a flat character completely relying on a single gimmick to make them seem interesting. Most Legends were once normal mortals, and very few of them would call themselves anything but human - just because they have more power doesn't mean they think in fifteen dimensions or have already been alive for a century or two.

  • One thing to remember is that Legends are generally human - they were not born in a vacuum, and even those with powers based around a theme, such as nature goddess or mad scientist, have history, emotion, depth, and character. They may be more powerful than any mortal, but especially for newer Legends, the experience is still absolutely ingrained in their minds; very few Legends outright forsake their humanity, and even those that do generally need hundreds of years to truly distance themselves.

  • Legendhood is not genetic - a Legend's children are no more likely to be Legends in their own right than anyone else. The tenuous nature of the process of becoming a Legend is not understood by anyone, as it is just as likely to be present at birth as something gained later in life or even on the deathbed. The only real theme is that the nature of the powers received generally reflects how it was gained; a monk reaching Nirvana tends to receive powers that to some degree reflect his mindset and inner peace, whereas innate powers, such as the ability to talk to the dead or read minds, are often present at birth. Some can even be taught; magic is not a Legend-only practice in many shards, but sometimes an aspiring mage will suddenly exalt as a Legendary magus, whether from learning a new spell, mastering a branch of elemental sorcery, or even just for no reason whatsoever.

  • Legendary status is not strictly restricted to humans; rarely a god (little g), monster, or nonhuman humanoid of some sort manages to pull it off. Gods are already to some degree Legends by definition, but anything else depends on the setting and character; an inhabitant of Ibotus, nightmare or empath alike, could just as well exalt and be able to appear elsewhere, though their original nature generally stays similar; a nightmare might still stay indistinct and shadowy, while an architect would very likely retain his ability to simply imagine parts of settings into existence or create servants with a thought. A gorgon that ascends would very possibly keep her own form, or she might gain the ability to turn into a humanoid woman, keeping her old abilities and gaining new ones, but appearing in a more socially acceptable form. While Legends rarely have any degree of control in exactly what they gain from the process, even more rare is it that they find their powers not to their liking - most powers work in tandem to the character's goals and methods rather than being irrelevant, and many Legends simply received powers they'd wanted their entire lives at a particularly dramatic and appropriate moment.

    Incidentally, inanimate objects? Not Legends.
