The Mystic Tavern is a peculiar structure. No one knows how it got to this serene location. Some say that it was placed there by an unknown deity; some say that it was placed there by a spell gone wrong. No one can say for certain how this building originated, but it is here now, and that's all that matters. For description of the area, we'll start from the outside and work our way in. To the west of the tavern, there is a beautiful mountain range. These mountains help seclude the tavern from the rest of civilization. These mountains are classic: numerous snow-capped peaks of varying heights, clouds covering the top like a blanket, vegetation of unique rarities gracing the rock, and wildlife who's bestiary will probably never be completed. At the foot of the mountain range is a plain of rolling hills. The grass is green and billows in the gentle breeze. The animals the inhabit these grasses are usually peaceful and are preyed upon by the wild, and races alike. It is a common place for sparring and practice. Sometimes, the patrons even enjoy sitting here and relaxing, gazing a the clouds and stars above. However, the peacefulness doesn't last for long. As you head towards the tavern, you'll reach the entrance to a dense forest where a stony path is broken up with a mix of dirt and broken stone. There are eyes glaring at you, strange sounds coming through the thick blanket of tree trunks and branches. The forest is very dark and not well lit. The creatures here aren't aggressive unless provoked, but intimidating, they are. Despite this, there is a lake within this dark forest. It is like an oasis in a desert of trees. The area around this lake is a great contrast to the rest of the forest. It is enchanted with a spell that keeps it serene and peaceful. It is a common spot for many patrons of the tavern, as well as travelers. The lake is mystical having virtually no bottom to it. It is full of creatures like the rest of the lands, but has been known to have people arrive in vessels and just swim up. Is there a portal there? As you are leaving the forest, you'll see that the broken road begins to regain it's stony form. It works it way up to a shabby building that looks as if it would fall with even the slightest shake. There are patches of flowers and various vessels scattered across the clearings. Despite the traffic, the grass in this clearing stays always stays lush. There is a platform with an active portal over to the side of the building where people are constantly walking in an out. Right in front of the tavern is a cobble stone well. Once you step into the door, it's hard to believe that this building is in such a great condition. The tavern is traditional and made entirely of wood. There are round tables, square tables, triangle tables, and oblong tables galore. Each filled with stools and chairs and lit will by a candle or lantern on the table. On one side of the room there is a fireplace with a calming fire and chairs and sofas around it. Needless to day, this tavern is much bigger than it appears from the outside. Agaist the wall to the far end is the bar. Edgar and his daughter Leigh are always working behind it, carrying on stories with the patrons and serving up the drinks. Don't be fooled by their humble appearance. These two also serve as security and have been known to slay beasts that find their way in from the woods. There is also a staircase that leads up to the next level. The rest of the tavern is nothing but bedrooms and spare rooms for meetings. In these rooms, however, there is no external sounds, save the knockings on the door when someone comes to it. These travelers get to sleep peacefully despite the racket outside. Once you go up the next flight of rickety stairs, you'll reach the roof, where some like to go to star gaze. Overall, this is the general feel of the Mystic Tavern and surrounding areas. However, this location evolves with the people that attend it, so it's never always 100% the same. |
