Ahh, good, I was kinda right, you're not great but you're not nearly as bad as I pictured, and I mean BAD. You show a lot of promise, work on those hands, feet, a little on the limbs, hair and neck. |

Well, I have been drawing for only a year and a half without any official teaching from Art classes. And I think Photoshop would have been a major benefit to me if I had one. Thanks for the reply and advice! Edited by debulover, Dec 15 2011, 01:44 AM.

No one truly needs art classes and if you need help, there's always libraries. Also, unless you have a tablet, I don't think Photoshop will be of much use to you. |

I have been reading "How to draw" books, but that only goes so far. I learn better from listening to a teacher than from just a book. As for the Tablet thing, I just want to take this one step at a time. I will ask in my journal if anyone wants to color them when I post all of my pics. So on a scale of 1-10, how good or bad do you think I am. Edited by debulover, Dec 15 2011, 01:59 AM.

Drawing from life is always the first step to drawing better. Even on of those little lame-o pose statues can be helpful to get an idea of how an object exists in three dimensional space and how that can be interpreted into a two dimensional rendering. |

Anime style, or generally cartoony style is something I think should be arrived at after getting a good grasp of realistic anatomy and proportion. Learning symbolic representation of anatomy and proportion in the manner that anime style does it, or emulation of the styles of others, leads to a level of exaggeration from the referenced materials that can be unappealing. Alternately even if you did learn to emulate to a good, even perfect, degree you limit yourself in terms of improving or adapting your own unique approach. |
