Use this thread to discuss general video game news basically. Feel free to make sub threads for sub game genres though. I already have someone working on a fighting game thread for instance. It'd be a good idea for us all to post our Gamertags and what have you in our sigs by the way. Edited by TheAmericanDream, Oct 25 2011, 09:00 AM.

Mario Kart 7 is probably the best 3DS game out right now. I'm enjoying it a ton and even Rainbow Road is actually enjoyable this time around. Here's the code for CC's community. I thought it'd be ok to share this since we all share a common interest. 32-8779-7485-9604 |

So after waking up from another one of my sporadic comas I discovered this little gem called The Darkness 2. You ever hear of The Darkness comic book series? Of course not. Well long story short it is the distilled essence of the Dark Age of comics that was characterized in the late 80s and early 90s as being about as pointlessly violent and extreme as you could get. And the little masterpiece of Top Cow was so shameless it its pursuit of this ideal that it’d make James O'Barr The Crow cut his hair and get a 5-9 job. It had everything, a brutally murdered girlfriend, a brooding antihero that eviscerated bad guys with cartoonish huge guns and demonic tentacles, cheesy dialogue and surprisingly interesting interpretations on lines from Abramatic religions and other mythology that no one tends to think about - but mostly a whole lot of stupid killing and campy tie-ins to Witchblade. So of course they make a FPS out of the franchise in 07 and it was not as bad as I thought it’d be. I mean it had weird ideas like including full episodes of Flash Gordon and Popeye or entire movies like The Street Fighter playing on in-game televisions about certain levels as you are tearing people apart with darklings and shotguns, but it was lukewarm at best. Not to mention the Doom 3 graphics made the main character, Jackie Estacado, look like an even frumpier Steven Seagal. But then you get to the sequel and you see its comic style cel-shading and you realize something is amiss. The game is actually a very schizophrenic dark comedy that blends the personal tragedy of everyone involved in this story seamlessly with unexpected funny situations ,characters and dialogue. It’s short considering it also cut about half of the game into a tight but limited multiplayer experience but if they pad it all out with DLC, the few flaws this has would disappear. Give it a rent if you want to see what I am talking about. |

Pfft who gives a crap? Project Sora and Namco/Bandai are making the new Smash Bros games Also, hate to do this to you U-P: [EDIT] Already people are throwing names from anime characters just because of the companies involved. Intellectual properties and ownership issues aside, some people need to get a grip and realize that anime and games are two different things. Edited by Block Devil, Jun 23 2012, 06:52 PM.

^ I dunno if you're just being funny, but I am legitimately concerned that it may just turn into another repetitive anime fighting game. You know, the ones where the characters are horribly imbalanced, the fights are mostly won by who can rinse and repeat the best, and every super move is a 50 second cutscene... There are some good anime fighting games (Gundam Battle Assault 2, DBZ Tenkaichi Budokai 3) but I really hope Namco/Bandai took notes from the JoJo Capcom games as far as gameplay goes. Those games were not only full of love for the series, but they were legitimately fun and well crafted fighting games. |

If I learned anything from .hack it’s that CC knows how to make addictive combat systems -- and I’ve always thought most fighting games in general were just button mashing simulators. I am more concerned if this game is going to become another Golden Whirlwind or Phantom Blood and be unable to be released outside of Japan because Araki can’t stop flirting with copyrighted songs. As for the PS3 thing, I got one but I'm not going to say who I am there. |
