Use this thread to discuss general video game news basically. Feel free to make sub threads for sub game genres though. I already have someone working on a fighting game thread for instance. It'd be a good idea for us all to post our Gamertags and what have you in our sigs by the way. Edited by TheAmericanDream, Oct 25 2011, 09:00 AM.

Between Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny and Saints Row The Third it's going to be harder for me to remember MuffinChat exists this coming Rowvember. The fall has already had a fat harvest of titles to please my tastes from comic book interests to the widening spectrum of RPGs, but The Third is something I still don't completely understand yet eagerly sit on my hands waiting for its release. I fell in love the first two Saints Row games as soon as I played them in all their stupid glory. I enjoyed the freedom of constantly recreating my character to become any man, woman, or horrible abomination that lay between these sexes and unleashing them onto the depraved bacchanalia that is Still Water; occasionally enjoying the company of fellow travelers in my butchery. I was tantalized by how my enemies and rival gangs became characters within themselves as I steamrolled over their territories again and again in new and exciting ways to screw around on the gangbanging job. I enjoyed an environment of total anarchy caused by yours truly whenever a I felt like it and The Third is all of this and more. Gat be praised. |

It's amazing how SEGA actually made it a respectable franchise again. Even though Colors washed away the taint of Sonic's darker days I was wondering if they could keep their current level of quality or had the chutzpah to keep trying new things with the hedgehog. And then Generations kept proving how ambitious and charming the current Team developing this is to the point of making this a complete history of the series by including levels from his darkest hour, Sonic 06 itself, to show that the blue blur will keep moving ahead. All I need is Chemical Plant Zone, some kickin' beats, tasty waves, a cool game buzz and I'm fine. |

To those it may concern, I've been playing Sonic Generations for the last 5 hours and it's bloody amazing (IMO). It's fast, platform heavy and difficult as the older games yet familiar and new at the same time. It has tons of extra modes and nostalgic references to even the most obscure Sonic games from sega's library which I really appreciate as a super Sega nerd. Anyone raised on the genesis titles through Adventure 1 should give it a shot. reveals spoilers I guess, gameplay footage. Spoiler: click to toggle

I was raised in the Genesis era, and I absolutely hated when Sonic went 3D. Every game that came out after Sonic & Knuckles was a disaster to me. I'll give this game a chance. I liked what I played of the demo w/ Classic Sonic. Edited by Running Wild, Nov 1 2011, 06:25 PM.

No offense but, most of the 3d ventures and Handheld titles are pretty different in quality/story and gameplay. A lot of them are flops, but I think the GBA/DS sonic games are pretty good and while Sonic Adventure 1 is overrated, I think it holds up alright compared to any other 3d platformer from the late 90s. Generations does a good job giving nods to all the games though, it has remixes for all the old levels, and even the modern sonics gameplay is about 60% 2 and a half D. So It's pretty comfy mostly for old school only fans. I hope to get commissions done before I sink too much more time into this bad boy. |

Sonic should of just stayed 2D. I know in the mid 90's there was alot of anticipation for Sonic's 3D debut with Sonic Extreme, which got canned, and honestly that game looked like shit anyways, and there was that crappy 3D Blast game. Then we finally get a 3D Sonic on the Dreamcast and it's just an uncontrollable mess with horrible camera. But even when they tried to go back to doing a 2D Sonic, they fucked it up. Sonic Advance 1 was alright, 2 was downright horrible, boss fights were stupid and repetitive as hell, 3 was forgettable to me. Sonic Rush on DS... ugh. What were they thinking with that one. Then there are those "2D Sections" in Unleashed and Colors... bleh. That is nothing like classic Sonic platforming. |

Personally, I found the DS games to be different, and a bit spastic at times but still really fun, just because its different doesn't necessarily make it bad. I won't necessarily defend the Dreamcast games that well, but I like it as much as Mario 64.

The Rush games were just horrible man. I mean first of all, that view is just downright broken. You got Sonic speeding through levels on two separate screens, that is just retarded. Don't even get me started on the physics. |

I'm consistently behind in videogames, largely because I can never finish their prequels. I'm terrible at actually finishing games. Like, I've still barely played Mass Effect and haven't even gotten 2 yet and 3's just about ready to come out. A lot of what I've been doing is getting older games as I discover them. I recently picked up the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series, when I was on a huge 40k kick(still am, really). I also picked up the first Deus Ex, and wondered what the hell was wrong with me when I wasn't enjoying playing what is largely considered 'zomg teh best game evarrr'. No clue if I should even try Deus Ex 3 with how little fun I was having with the original. |

I wasn't too hyped for Super Mario 3D Land, but I had a feeling that Nintendo's magic would be present as always and pre-ordered it a while back. Good thing I did because the game is too much fun for me to put down for too long. Starts out a bit easy, but it gradually becomes more difficult as new puzzle elements and new mechanics start to come into play. I've gotten pretty far in only a few hours of gameplay, but I've heard that there's more to the game than the first playthrough. Anyone who was on the fence about picking up a 3DS might want to consider it now that some quality titles are out. I know Walmart or some other place is doing a bundle with a red 3DS and Mario at only $10 more than the normal cost of a 3DS for Black Friday. Wouldn't be surprised to see Amazon or some other store matching that price. |
