There's a new picture of my Dad, Alexander Walker Hamilton, as a young man over here - Dad.

And there's a rare treat over here, as you get a very rare picture of me, my Dad, and my Uncle Ian (John Sorley Hamilton), in the vegetable patch at West Saville Terrace - Ian and tatties

Happy Dead Dad Day

Happy Dead Dad Day. Yes, it's hard to believe that another year has rushed by, and that it's Dead Dad Day again. But here it is, another anniversary of my Dad, Alexander Walker Hamilton, dying. A day of what was, what ifs, and what never was. So excuse me if I pause the festivities for a wee while.

It's true! The Hamilton family tree has been updated just in time for Christmas, so don't say I didn't get you anything. There's a ludicrously large number of Bells been added, so be prepared. Click here for more details. And be warned. There's more.

Happy Birthday Mum

Well today's the day that my mammy (Grace Muir Robinson) would have been 82. I still find it odd that she's no on the phone telling me how rubbish I am, whilst simulatenously apologising for being a nuisance. I hope you and Dad are getting on fine now, and here she is as a young woman.

George Robinson in the Arctic

Posted by mrhtou (Admins) at Aug 27 2011, 09:06 PM. 0 comments

If you've been paying attention, you'll know that my Uncle George (Robinson) was blown up by a submarine on the convoys to Murmansk, ending up with 80% body burns.

The BBc has a news story with video;

"Arctic convoy veterans, who delivered supplies that kept the Soviet Union going during World War II, have urged the Prime Minister to fulfil his medal promise.

Speaking in January, David Cameron, said the veterans should get medals and the issue was referred to the Ministry of Defence.

Mr Cameron said they endured "incredibly harsh conditions" while escorting supplies to ports in the Arctic Circle, between 1941 and 1945.

Winston Churchill described the convoys as the most dangerous of the war.

Last year the Russian government presented medals to scores of veterans who attended a reception in London.

In 2005 an arctic badge was awarded to the veterans but they say that does not go far enough."

The video is here;

Alexander Walker HAMILTON, son of Alexander HAMILTON and Mary Dawson BELL , was born 23 August 1922. He married Grace Muir ROBINSON 03 March 1961 in Edinburgh St Giles, Midlothian, Scotland. He died 24 December 1980. I still feel cheated. Here he is, with my Mum, before they were married, so this would be about 1959.
