I'm gonna make this short and sweet. I'm not gonna comment on this one. It pretty much speaks for itself. And the people who know me already know EXACTLY what I think about this. I just feel like it's my duty to show this to as many people as I can, and I figure this is probably the best way to do that.

wow, that was freaky! especially the part where they were "speaking in tongues", and that one kid was shaking! i think someone needs to call child services on them! and that one girl, she was actually talking to a bowling ball, commanding it in the name of Jesus to make a good shot! That was just ridiculous! wow!

yeah, i remember seeing something about that on the news back when it was coming out. never saw the documentary though. might be worth viewing if i can get a copy if it on dvd. i'd like to see it in its entirety.

The whole movie is available on youtube. The whole thing is actually even worse once you realize that it's all politically motivated. The woman ended up closing the camp because of threats she got after the film came out. I'm with you Thomas. To me, it's nothing short of child abuse.

wow, that's just crazy! but yeah, it's good she got shut down! she struck me as a particularly judgmental person just at the very beginning of that segment you provided the link to. she had said, "there are two kinds of people in this world: those who love jesus, and those who don't". i also noticed that they actually used the term "radical", at least they admit it!

the whole refusal to accept validity in other religions that christianity usually seems to stand for really disturbs me... yeah, jesus said a lot of very wise things, so did muhammed and the buddha and many other spiritual leaders. i just find the very idea of putting people into two categories based upon whether or not they love a single historical figure like that to be very naive and narrow minded...

oh, and yeah, i didn't really know that it was politically motivated, but that makes perfect sense! they kept talking about the nation and being holy and such...

haven't been able to see the video yet (damn internetz being retardedly slow :( )

But I've got a pretty damn good idea after hearing just the first seconds.

And frankly, as an "atheist" (I'm my own religion, but of course, society doesn't accept it.) - I say 'respect those who have different religions, but do not mock or believe other religious views are "satanic" or wrong.'

Plain and simple. If you want a good Jesus Camp, all they should do is just tell them to respect their god, pray, etc.
Not cause to make some really f**ked up cults.

that documentary is accurately showing the real side of church camps all over the united states.
in fact. . . i went to one just like that.
literally.
just like that.
our pastor was a man, though.

looking at this documentary brings back so many memories. . .and now looking back on it, it was scary. kids falling around me, speaking in tongues, seeing visions. . . mass hypnosis.
hysteria.
it's contagious, and when there's a really nice man that you respect on stage telling you what to feel and the music is lulling you into a relaxed state . . .
/shakes head.

hmm... i was actually going to say that i didn't think much of that was a lot different than mainstream christianity! i didn't think that going so far with it was all that common, but of course, i've never been to a camp of any sort. i've been to a few churches, i know a lot of preachers like to talk about "spiritual gifts", i suppose they really believe in that stuff, i dunno.

i guess that's one of the reasons i can't go to church anymore, i don't have any real respect for such beliefs. i tolerate it, but it all sounds like a bunch of ancient superstitions to me, i can't say i think the modern world has any place for such beliefs, at least not within an intelligent society... i'm not saying that people who believe in it are less intelligent, i'm just saying... well, look at what it leads to!

of course, i do believe in God, and i think of myself as being spiritual, but as for mainstream christianity? i think it could do with being a little more tolerant of alternative beliefs...

i'm really sorry you had to experience such a thing, dizu. i'm really sorry about that...
