Alright guys, no need to attack me. I KNOW it's not based on religion anymore, like really? Lol, you think I'm that dense...when I am in medical and law school...I think I know what is past and present. I was just giving everyone else background information. I was putting my two cents in to the topic, not replying to anyone's post. I don't reply to people, I have a really large mind...that I use for myself and my own opinions. FYI, I said the law is NOT playing God. What does it mean to play God? Well I don't know, decide for yourself. Since the things I decide for myself, are looked down upon here. But, it's the internet. So therefore, I don't really mind that I misunderstood. The thing about me is that unlike most people...I speak with education before I state my opinion. I'm that much of a nerd at times, that I will give fact after fact. Then maybe, I might state what I think. Just maybe. What I am trying to get you guys to understand...is that all my law classes right now are in court rooms. I simply go to case after case for my classes in law school at the moment. The system DOES work. The law system is not like car-pooling, you can't change a system like that over night. Even though many of you know, that I will be going to Antartica and Australia after college to join the team of medical scientists who are trying to find the cure to cancer. I chose that career, for reasons that were close to my heart. Still, the study of law remains my passion as well. Which is why, I am double majoring. To tell me that the system is not working, really sort of is a punch to my face. I am in college, to go into this system...and it's almost like you're telling me I am a failure because of that. Yes, I know you said that the law is NOT playing God (read my message very closely, and you'll see that I acknowledge I am using the opposite statement). I was not attacking you, I was disagreeing. If you think disagreeing and attacking is the same thing, well, that's you... You expressed your opinion, and I expressed mine. |

I didn't attack, either. That has a negative connotation and I just meant to bounce ideas around and clarify what I meant before. :] I'm sorry if it came off as an attack. To say that the system isn't working is more of a punch to the face of the people who created the system, or the people who currently uphold it and make it run, not a college kid, no matter how intelligent you are and no matter if you're in law and medical school. You didn't create it. I didn't mean to insult anyone; as I said before, I'm simply bouncing around ideas, which is the basis of any good intellectual argument. If everyone agreed life wouldn't be very interesting. |

Yes, exactly! "Bouncing around ideas", I like that! That's why I quoted Michael before. And yes, that would be more of a punch to the face of those who created the system! And I could throw punches at them all day (metaphorically). As for a law student? Well, shouldn't they be working to make things work better? Be a positive influence in the world? I don't know how anyone can truly agree 100% with the system as it is... Try and live in a small town in the South, and I guarantee that anyone with an undying respect for the "system" as is will think twice about at least some of it! (That does not relate to this conversation thread, but it is an interesting addition since we seem to be shifting the topic to how well the law works). |

he is working to make things better......hence the whole sitting in court rooms and evaluating cases. after college, he will work to finding a cure to cancer........instead of being like most people, and complaining about cancer. lately, i have just read complaints. it doesnt work, it's this......it's that. okay, it still is what it is.....unless anyone wants to walk up to the Supream Court and state their opinion. i will just agree with the LAW student. since i dont even know if any of you are in college [or anything else about you.] and that is not an insult, we are simply just strangers.
^well no duh, you think he sits there in class flicking pens at the professors and eating a Big Mac. he wouldnt waste his time paying for a double major if he thought it was pointless. Edited by Todd-ster, Mar 16 2009, 05:16 PM.

Yes, Todd, I'm in college. Yes, I know he's trying to make it better. My point was that he shouldn't take a discussion about possible flaws in the system personally. Not all of us can work to find the cure for cancer. We'll just have to settle for complaining about it. |

Well. This has taken a negative turn... I don't think anyone meant to attack, and the defense is understood. Let's all be nice.

Todd, I did not mean to imply that Michael is not working to make things better in the law (or in the medical field as that he has already stated that he wishes to work on a cure for cancer). What I meant by what I had said was... Well, I was kind of intentionally stating the obvious! If Michael is offended by any possible flaw in the law being stated (and he has already said that he accounts it as being equal to a punch in the face!), then quite obviously, he believes it is perfect and does not wish to change it at all! As for me? No, I won't just agree with the law student! I respect that the law student has his opinion, but I can actually think for myself! |
