Forestguard The Forestguard is mostly squirrels, but mice, voles, moles, and sometimes the odd hare also join. They patrol the forests of Mossflower, routing vermin and protecting those who cannot defend themselves. It is the largest of the three guards, and, despite many of its members being former civilians, it fights strongly and trains hard. Riverguard The Riverguard is almost entirely made up of otters, but shrews and the occasional vole will join. They patrol the river Moss in canoes, watching out for water rats, the clans of foxes who sometimes camp along its banks, and any searats or corsairs who think that peace-loving woodlanders will be easy pickings. There is a strong alliance between the Riverguard and the Guosim shrews, and it is not rare a young shrew leaves the Union to join. Skyguard The Skyguard is composed entirely of birds of prey: kestrels and other falcons, hawks, buzzards, kites, harriers, and the rare owl. They fly over Mossflower, searching for vermin and woodlanders that need help. It is the newest of the guards. However, the other Mossguarders are having a hard time forgetting that most such birds eat their kind, despite the oath every skyguard takes against such. It functions well enough for now, though the peace between the Skyguard and the older guards is uneasy. Many go as far to say it is not a question of whether it will last, but how long. Civilians Civilians are all the dwellers of Mossguard who are not warriors. A large portion work as smiths, healers, cooks, or do other necessary work around the fortress. The able-bodied among them are generally members of the fire crew, a team which responds to emergencies such as collapsed dwellings, flood damage, or fires, and -more importantly- keeping the woodlanders involved safe. ew are retired Mossguards with stories to tell. |
