Ok so I'm really not that good at writing reviews so I'm not going to make this a long one. My own opinion tends to get in the way of my judgement when considering films!

SO! I loved this film for three main reasons:

1. Soundtrack -- I just love that ridiculously 'hard' distorted rock/metal sound every time Stark gets into his suit. The drawn-out slow motion sequence as the well animated CG components slot and click together remind me of all those scenes in war films where they're "gearing up" and everything's being loaded etc etc.

2. Downey Jr. -- I don't think they could have a better suited person for this role. I'll confess that I've never read the comic books but his portrayal of the character was such that I instantly loved him. I think this is important when a graphic novel transcends into film as it is a medium that reaches a wider audience and therefore has to be more inclusive. Apparently Tom Cruise and Nicholas Cage were considering the role... Thank Christ.

3. Tony Stark -- The character himself. I'm so glad to find a superhero with morals that isn't such a total faggot about it.
Peter Parker... Dead parents, dead uncle, best friend wants to kill him, married to a ginger... Faggot.
Bruce Wayne... Tortured past-life involving dead parents and a fear of bats, can't handle his 'shroom gas without having a bad trip... Faggot.
Clark Kent... Dreamy do-gooder who has a weakness for rocks from his own planet, too powerful other than this to be taken seriously... Faggot
That's not to say I don't like these characters; they all promote values that are important in real life and explore in different ways the trials and tribulations of human (and alien) life.
However, Tony Stark manages to exhibit similar (though admittedly self inflicted) values whilst flaunting an ego comparable to that of James Bond. He's just... Cool about it. Not cool in the sense that "Yeah it'd be so cool to be [insert name here]" but deliberately. He's realised that if he's going to be a superhero, he may as well make a dirty great song and dance about it.

Other than that, I also particularly enjoyed the recurring joke of Stark stating something preposterous and then a sudden cut to exactly that happening. I'm not sure if I was in a weird cinema, but I've never heard so much clapping mid-film.

Interesting review.

Personally, I thought it was alright. It didn't do anything I hadn't seen already in a super hero movie and although I liked the Tony Stark character, the Iron Man stuff got very repetitive and the end fight sequence was just boring. Also, I don't see why CGI is getting worse and worse... it was distracting in this film as whenever Iron Man was computer generated he lost his heavy feeling and sence of power and you could tell the difference between that and the practical suit.

I'd personally give it around 3 stars. I want to like it but it didn't do anything new. Transformers meets Batman - not a bad thing, just seen it all before.
