Next year is probably new car time. Thinking about a diesel this time around. Any one know the ups and downs with these? For gas engines I just check with my mechanic relatives but I don't know any diesel mechs.

I asked a diesel fan for some info. Unfortunatly he gave me too much to remember it all. He did say, if your looking at cars, try to find an early 2000's VW. They are the best and get 50+ miles per gallon. He didn't think there were many other cars to pick from that were diesel. There are some brand new ones comming out but very pricey. As for trucks, the Dodge with a cummins would be his pick. He drives a ford now that he converted to run on cooking oil and works great but he would still go to dodge. Hope this info can get you started.

the newer fords and chevy diesels both had huge problems when they came out. When Ford switched from the 7.3 and built their own they had nothing but problems. The chevy uses Isuzu and their diesels are made to run on Japaneze and German diesel which is a finer grade than ours so the fuel filters clog and need to be changed frequently. They may have corrected these problems . As far as cars I dont know anything about them.

I am glad I was wrong about the title of this tread. Motor vehicles, not fans. Now I know.

I used to own a diesel truck... hated the panic of not being able to find a station that carried diesel for sale...
