just wondering what your thoughts are on them. i know that i plan on using mine for a light recon/possible bugout vehicle if TSHTF.

i know they wont haul much but they will carry more then you can on your own and are much more versatile than a car or truck if it comes to ditching you main bug out ride.

I'm with you on that. Mighty handy tool. They can go everywhere.

my plan is to have it more for a recon vehicle then anything else. if i have to use it to bug out it will definatley cut back on what can be brought with. i plan to bug in unless it gets really bad though.

what and where do you plan to "recon" with a noise maker? Not trying to be snotty.. but.. if you're on a recon Op... you'll want to be unseen and unheard, and preferably not engaged at any point.

i should have clarified more. recon/scavenging and backup bug out vehicle. at the moment my old honda is a bit noisy, the pipe is actually rusted out. i do plan to address this issue thow. i will be modifying the current exhaust system (or lack of) to make it run quieter.

also for newer atvs you can actually buy an add on muffler thats supposed to make them almost whisper quiet. they are marketed towards hunters but i can't recall the name brand off hand or who sells them.

but you are right Anti, most atvs are kind of noisy. you just have to decide how stealthy you need to be. an atv is only a tool, you just have to use the right tool at the right time. :P you definately wont sneak up on anybody while riding one. it just depends on how much activity is in the area and what kind of recon you are doing. sometimes you need to cover ground, sometimes you need to be on the sneak.

a bit more info about my atv, its old, 1985 honda trx 250, two wheel drive fourwheeler with front and rear racks. i have added a basket to the front and i made my own winch mount that fits inside the frame in the front. i mounted a 2000 lb winch on it. more then it will ever need to extract it from a mud hole provided i have something to hook to.
