I need to go the other way also. Size isn't as important as strength per pound of bodyweight. |

I understand that "size" doesn't matter... (LOL) What I meant wasn't size in general.. but more muscle mass. Stronger. |

I've been back at it lifting about four times a week for three weeks now, trying to fit it in after work, lately I come home eat dinner, take 20 min nap then train. I'm working on going from a xxl to a xl. I hate cardio but I have been forcing my self to do it |

Whew. Out of shape I am (insert Yoda mockery here). Seems like I take one step forward and two steps backwards. Went for a 1.6 miles jog and did a couple pushups and crunches. I felt pretty good but I am NOWHERE close to what I thought I should be able to do. I am tracking my stuff on Daily Burn (was Gyminee). I think that really helps. I'm watching you AB!!! |

My model is the Army PT test...need to get back into condition to get a good score, or at least be able to pass it...one of the best ways to add mass to biceps, triceps, trapezoids, and pecs is by doing pull ups and dips...pull ups develop a long bicep (as opposed to the "Popeye" arm you get from curls alone) ...if your lower back ever hurts, try hugging your knees and rolling around on your back on a hard floor...you can hit every spot better than any therapist ever could....don't wanna run? ...then do the Army force march...huge strides, long arm swing, never break into a trot...start with short distances and work up...we made 35 miles once in just a few hours with our L2....(it was agonizing) |

After being sick my stomach shrunk to the size of a pea I believe! Get full off nothing, so I'm kind of happy I got sick, helped slow me down. Still maintaining weight. Will go on a 2.5 mile run tomorrow if I get to sleep asap. Will have to also get things put into my Gyminee. |

In my experience, the best way to improve is to do shorter workouts more frequently. I have been through cycles of intense training and then periods of no training due to: 1. Overtraining and subsequent fatigue 2. Injury (sometimes caused by overtraining) I have found that less than one hour of strength training and 20-30 minutes of cardio (fairly intense sessions) on alternating days gives a good workout but does not burn you out. Take a day completely off at least once a week in order to get a complete recovery. You will be surprised at how quickly you will be able to intensify your workouts. It is much easier to convince yourself to workout if you know the duration will be short. |

I agree with your post Watcher. I'm short on time and pretty tired lately but I always feel good after training. |

I have started working out with kettlebells. Been doing it for 4 weeks. Already feeling stronger and seeing good results. Just came back from one night of camping with the family. Packed 40 lbs and pushed a cart for a total of an hour this trip. Was much easier than normal. Planning to go to a free kettlebell into class this Sunday afternoon in St. Paul. Also checking out a kettlebell club in NE Mpls. |

I heard and seen A LOT of good things about kettlebell's. Lot's of range of various motions that standard weight training just can't get you. |

Supposedly they've been used by the Russian military during the last three years for strength training. They have their origins as agricultural balance counter-weights. Apparently, the military noticed that the Russian farm boys were buff! |

Ughh...I gotta take it easy...just got back from the VAMC, had an ultrasound today (Thursday)...felt really lousy on Monday (thought it was the heat), went to the doc Wednesday...turns out they may have to remove some gallstones, which ususally means sucking out the gallbladder through a couple of holes they punch in my belly...feel fine now, but might need to have that thing removed...I'll hear what they say about it tomorrow...on the way back from the VA today, I celebrated by buying a box of bullets.... |
