Is the world, morally speaking, going to hell?

It seems a lot of people I've talked to thinks that the "rules" of morality are being stretched more and more by the year with rampant sex at young ages and abortions and desensitized feelings. It's like the entire planet except them has jumped down the pit of shame.

But the kicker is, I know more "thems" than I do the people they claim everyone has become.

So which is it? Is the general population really forgetting the unwritten laws that have been in place for many years, or is it just the media reporting only the negative, creating the illusion that there is more of this "corruption" than there really is? Don't get me wrong, there's lots of it out there, but people have been having sex before marriage, raping, and maiming since the beginning of time regardless of religious influence at the time. I think that it's been about the same, and humanity hasn't much strayed from it's normal moral course. Everyone I've met "cared" in some way or another. They had a mind and heart capable of feeling guilt and remorse. If this was such an issue, I'd be seeing more of the opposite everywhere I looked.

What do you guys think?

Well the media is good about blowing things way out of proportion more than they need to be, but there are some things that are becoming a bit edgier in the entertainment industry and moral has decreased some, but these things are nothing major and can be easily dealt with if parents actually did their jobs or if ratings were much more clearer to understand.

I find it a bit mute really, because as you said Milky, these things have occurred for quite a long time, and the way I look at it, we've actually gotten a little better about things compared to say 40 years ago, or even longer than that. But the Media loves to stir up crap, so all in all, we may never actually get to the real problems.

However, I can say that it's the parents' fault for kids being bad, not video games.

Perhaps. However, I am a firm believer that it's just a phase that society as a whole goes through. We're uptight, and then extremely lax and then more religious etc.

I would hope so. These phases seem to go around more violently these days.

people in general are nice.

we're also a lot more aware of others than we were a hundred years ago (or less).

morally speaking we're doing quite good. only real problems are sex and trying to get money in dodgy ways (e.g. sue-ing everybody you can). violent crime has gone down. racism has gone down. health has gone up recently (hard to believe, but we're just having different health risks).

also sex isn't as bad as it seems. did you know that the "virgin mary" is not really "virgin" in the way we think of. the virgin in virgin mary does not mean "no sex" it was actually a particular group of women between the 2 year period of being engaged and being married. that was just a little bit of trivia. sex is a really touchy topic because really sex is a basic species survival drive which has an added pleasure to it. so it's like two hits in one. not only that, but a healthy sex life is needed for a healthy psychology. you really can't blame people for having sex. what about all those people in africa who have like 12 kids?

There are some people out there though that are perfectly healthy and they have no sex drives.

But really, why do people get more so offended by sexual things than by violence? I mean yeah, kiddie-porn and over-excessive porn are bad, but sex is nothing compared to violence. Do you want to know a funny childhood fact from me? My parents didn't want me to play games that had any kind of sexual content, references, or suggestive themes. Yet what about violence? Well, I've been playing T-rated games ever since I was 8, and I have an M-rated game, but what's all the big whop-de-do? I'm not wanting to go out and kill anybody.

But no, I mean somethings are too violent for little kids and somewhat too mature, but I don't believe in sugar coating everything in the world for kids. Hell, I let my brother and sister play Super Smash Bros. Brawl for crying out loud, and they haven't hurt anyone yet. But of course, there's no blood or gore in that game, which is what bothers me (I mean seriously, do we need things to be that gory?).

That's a culture thing. Some are more offended by violence while others are the opposite.

Here's proof that our morality is in a decline. Recently a woman lopped off her husband's penis and flushed it down a
toilet, where it couldn't be recovered. But ten years ago a woman lopped off her husband's penis and threw it outside
where it could be and was recovered. Coincidence?

Despite how crazy that sounds, it does have some kind of valid point to it.
