Currency/Exchange Rates Credits: Most monetary exchanges in the core happen through computer banks, using any number of highly efficient technological advances to balance a person's finances. However, there are times when computers cannot be relied on, and a person requires physical notes. The only form of currency sanctioned by the alliance is 'credits'. They are colorful bills in a range of monetary units, each laced with a data strip that can record up to 10,000 previous transactions, making tracing their movement a very simple job in most cases. Be wary, though, as credits are not accepted by everyone. Despite being the only legal form of payment in the 'verse, some people just can't trust anything the alliance gives them. Hard Coin Still widely used along the border, hard coins have a certain quality to them no flimsy, colorful little sheet of paper can ever have. Might be worth more, but a credit just doesn't feel as real in a man's hands as hard coins. Although not the officially recognized by the alliance, most anyone wanting to make some money will gladly accept them in payment, especially if that someone is looking to not get tracked. Hard coins come in three different units: platinum, gold, and silver. Exchange Rates Zhòng Yào: Because the price of platinum/gold/silver varies from planet to planet and because it is not legal tender on the core worlds, these exchange rates can shift slightly. The U.S. dollar is also included for general understanding - the Dollar does NOT exist within the 'verse. Silver = ₡0.004 = $0.10USD = 0.01plat = 0.02gold Gold = ₡0.2 = $5.00USD = 0.5plat = 50silver Platinum = ₡0.4 = $10.00USD = 2gold = 100silver ₡1 = $25USD = 2.5p = 5g = 250silver ₡0.4 = $10USD = 1p = 2g = 100silver (₡ = Alliance Credit) Appearance While the Alliance credits are all going to be of a unified appearance, the coins are going to be quite different from world to world. The weight of each coin must be the same, but the minting processes and appearances will vary. Making Money So now that you know how the cashy-money works, I assume you'd like to know how to earn it. This is all dependent on whether you're Alliance or a freelancer of some sort. Let's start with the simpler one. Alliance Pay Scale Alliance folks would be paid every two weeks, standard. After reductions for things like taxes and such, they would have a base paycheck of credits. For the sake of not breaking everyone's brains, we're going to break it down into simple groups of ranks. Officers Ensign/Lieutenant Junior Grade/Lieutenant: ₡950-₡1,100 per pay period Lieutenant Commander/Commander/Captain: ₡1,500-₡1750 per pay period (Since we don't have anybody ranking above that and probably won't, let's move on.) Enlisted Seaman Recruit/Seaman Apprentice/Seaman: ₡450-₡500 per pay period Petty Officers First, Second, and Third Class: ₡600-₡850 per pay period Chief Petty Officer: ₡950-₡1,100 per pay period (And ditto to higher ranks here) Getting Paid Without a PayCheck/Independents Earnin' Cash So if you're not one of those gorramn Purplebellies, there's a different way to earn a living. Either you work on a ship and transport cargo/people, or you provide services. Payment for both is listed here. Standard rates for: Legal Cargo ₡175-₡1000 Illegal Cargo ₡200-₡1,250 Legal Passenger ₡50-₡300 Illegal Passenger ₡90-350 Rates depend on difficulty of passage, just how illegal something/someone is, and the duration of the trip. Companion Rates/Pay Single Evening = ₡350 / 875p Full Day = ₡450 / 1,125p While the Companion keeps most of this money, she does have to tithe some back to the Guild. Other Services -Each per hour of labor Ship Repair ₡ 640 / 1,600p Analysis, Forensic ₡ 226/565p Analysis, Scientific ₡ 270/675p Companionship, Unlicensed ₡ 4/10p (..hookers) Diagnostic, Computer ₡ 8/20p Diagnostic, Medical ₡ 103.6/259p Diagnostic, Technical ₡ 40/100p Labor, Heavy ₡ 2/5p Labor, Menial ₡ 0.4/1p Laundry ₡ 0.8/2p Legal Counsel, Minor ₡ 200/500p Legal Counsel, Major ₡ 10,000/25,000p Makeover ₡ 4 8/12p Security, Major ₡ 52/130p (Full round-the-clock security detail: price per day) Security, Minor ₡ 10/25p (Part-time watchman: price is per day) Tattooing, Deluxe ₡ 40/100p Tattooing, Standard ₡ 8/20p Translator ₡ 1.6/4p Edited by Adelis Vibeke, Oct 6 2010, 06:34 PM.
