Pocket Sized Fatalities

Fi moved silently through the halls, she'd left notice for people to cover for her, everyone was supposed to say she was meditating, something she'd already done multiple times in front of witnesses so now it would seem like a regular occurrence. She slid into an empty room that she knew had a computer that could access the mainframe of the ship and closed the door behind her. The really lovely thing about this room was that it wasn't supposed to be connected, it had been a mistake by one of the former computer specialists. A specialist that had known her mother. Fi kilted her shirt up, tucking the hem into the top of the special 'corset' belt she'd made of elastic bands to hold all of her tools and lock picks. In her hand bag she had her favorite data pad, something that everyone carried on them. Of course, not everyone was a noted computer hacker. Fi, no, Violet, pulled out her screw drivers and started removing the faceplate from the terminal. If she was to attach her data pad to the front port it would log her search. She gently set the faceplate on the floor after removing all 6 screws and setting them on a chair so she didn't lose them. It was the work of moments to attach the leads to the back chords and piggyback into the network from there. The search was now coming from the walls of the ship, quite literally, and would be much harder to trace. Not that she was planning to let them catch site of her little techno-interrogation to begin with. First was a swift sift through the passenger manifesto, it was always nice when things were simple and Fi wasn't one to do the hard parts first if she could skip them. It wasn't that she was lazy, merely efficient. Alfred Jameson had been working with the Movement for 3 years, and 2 months back they had discovered that he was actually Kilmer Drake, Alliance supporter. They had thought he was THEIR double agent, but really he was a proud supporter of Core dictatorship and was therefore expendable. She went through the lists, waiting for one to jump out at her. Alfonzo Kilmer. The dumb ones always chose something easy to remember. Now all she needed was to make sure that he was the right man. That meant going through the legal paperwork, which might not be so easy. Fi scrunched her nose a bit and then shook her head. She could also look up which activities he had joined in and grab the ship pictures. 3 minutes later she was looking at a middle aged man with a beer belly and receding hairline he was failing to hide with a comb over. That was the sleaze bag. She copied all the information to her data pad, and was then distracted by a tap at the door. She'd locked it to give her a few moments grace. "Yes?" She asked in a calm and relaxed voice even as she yanked chords out of the wall and shoved them in her purse, sliding the faceplate back onto the wall and screwing it back in. If this was one of her people she was going to kill them unless they had a good reason. |

Pila had been suspicious of the newcomers on the Bǐng Quān almost since they had boarded. Everything about them seemed forged; it wasn't hard for someone pretending to be well-behaved to see it in others. Her time with criminals had given her a sharp eye for them; more easily said, she could smell her own kind. The Independent Messenger turned felon turned circus performer needed to get off the luxury ship. It was so terribly dull, and she had a distinct feeling that life with the temporary performers on their ship would be less so. Especially since she had a pretty strong hunch that they weren't actually circus performers. The one that had seemed to trust her least, Violet, had been going off to meditate fairly often. A common thing, though it had left Pila curious. So she had followed the woman, and while she had thus far only seen her actually meditating, she still had that fishy feeling in her gut. So today she had decided to confront "Violet". She had even brought a small switchblade just in case, hopefully things wouldn't get violent. She tapped lightly at the door where she had seen the woman go; if her suspicions were proven false, she would be sorely disappointed. "Yes?" That was her cue. "Sorry to bother you, Violet, but I had a few questions for you. Do you mind if I come in?" A few questions was putting it mildly. Hopefully she would come off as simple and curious, and then they could get down to the nitty gritty once she was inside and away from prying ears. |

The chords and data pad were shoved deep inside her purse even as the voice she recognized as belonging to Pila asked if she could come in. She was setting the bag gently beside a window overlooking the Black, taking off her shoes to set beside the bag as she moved to the door. The young woman had been watching them far too closely, especially Fi, Violet, herself. Fi knew crooked minds when she saw them and Pila was definitely of the crooked variety, the problem was that you couldn't trust most people like that. Fi knew that well, after all she was as crooked as they come. She still had the calm and serene look on her face as she unlocked the door and gave the fire eater a soft smile. "Please join me," She turned her back and walked to the window where she dropped into a cross legged position, staring out the window. She kept her eyes faced straight forward, even as she studied Pila's reflection in the window. She had learned long ago how to study someone without actually looking at them. Possible weapon in the woman's pocket. That was it. She reached out a hand and gently patted the open spot beside her inwardly glad that she'd put her datapad on silent. That could have lead to awkward admissions to Gwen. "What did you need dear?" Violet was open and loving and sweet. Fi wanted to slap her. However for the time being she would stick to simply being as gentle as she could. She would save the violence for Hunter when they were back on the Cressi. She reached a hand up to smooth her hair a bit, turning her head to the other young woman inquisitively. |

Pila was, for the most part, disappointed. She had expected to find Violet doing something suspicious, and all she had caught her doing was getting ready to meditate. Still too stubborn to accept that things were what they seemed, she entered the room and took off her own shoes. Setting the bright orange tennis shoes by Violet's own, she sat cross-legged beside the other woman, facing the window. She glanced over at Violet and took a deep breath. There was no telling how this would go, and if she was indeed wrong about everything she would look like quite a fool. "You know, I never got to be a real Browncoat," she started, looking ahead at the endless black. Perhaps the best way to get the truth out of someone else would be to tell a bit of truth herself. "I was a runner though. Got myself shot during the Battle of Du Khang. Never saw Serenity Valley, though I've been told I'm lucky for it." Pila glanced back at Violet again. "You sort of learn to spot a fellow Independent, even in hiding. I ain't tryin' to call you out, and I sure ain't gonna rat you to any higher-ups, but I'm curious as hell who you fought with. Once you deliver messages between Browncoats for three long, bloody years, you learn the steel of their eyes..." She raised her brows. "You fight on Du Khang? You look gorramn familiar now, come to think of it..." |

Violet was too sweet and innocent to have fought on Du Khang, but Fi ... Fi had been there. She'd been one of the few survivors. Pila had probably been too young to be allowed to fight, the fact that Fi was 2 years younger than the fire eater was moot. Her circumstances were completely different. Pila was sharp and Fi could appreciate that in a fellow browncoat, sadly Fi wasn't in at the moment. "You aren't the first to ask that. My daddy and my brother were browncoats straight through. Personally I didn't fight nowhere, violence turns my stomach sick," She offered up an embarrassed little grimace. As she rolled her shoulders and neck, forcing her limbs to relax one at a time. It was an exercise she'd been doing for a very long time. Of course this time she wasn't being timed to see how fast she could pull out her weapons from a fully relaxed position. She turned her eyes to the brunette beside her. Pila was what Jay would call good people. A fellow browncoat was always welcome to share time, she just wished she had time to double check the background she'd already printed out on the girl. It was already working in her favor that she wasn't as obnoxious as her sister. "I wish I was brave enough to have fought at Du Khang, you're a lot stronger than I am I'm afraid," She turned her eyes to the distant stars, a faraway look in her eyes. "Good people died, too many good people. All because those damn purple bellies couldn't just let people be free. Du Khang and Serenity Valley were both epic tragedies that shall never be forgotten," The words were leaving a bad taste in her mouth, people who hadn't fought were weak and had no business passing judgment on anyone that had fought; alliance or browncoat. At least those who had fought had committed themselves to what they believed in rather than hiding their heads and hoping for the best. She kept her face soft and relaxed even as inside rage began to simmer in the bitter heat of her thoughts. She was a fighter and a doer. If she met someone like Violet, she'd probably break her nose on principal. |

Her daddy and brother were Browncoats? That didn't seem entirely right. Sure, Violet was peaceful and calm and sweet, but there was a dangerous look in her eyes that led Pila to believe there was more going on. She raised her brows when the woman commented on Du Khang, on the people that died. "I saw more good people die during that battle than I'd ever like to see again in my life," she agreed, feeling her own rage boil up inside of her. "Gave me somethin' to live for though. Before I joined the Independents I was just a wandering kid, a spoiled brat princess, a rebel without a clue. Now I got a plan. I plan to get off this fèi wù luxury liner and do somethin' that matters. Maybe knock off a few purple bellies in honor of my friends that died." She took a deep breath once more. She was trying to meditate after all. Something caught her attention though, at the corner of her eye. Violet's purse was glowing softly, and the colors were changing at random. That was definitely a problem. "Uh, Miss Violet? Your purse is changing colors." |

Fi kept her eyes locked outside the window. Pila was saying dangerous things, sure Fi had that look in her eyes. So did a lot of Alliance soldiers that had been at those battles. Anyone that saw that much blood and death was touched by it, no matter which side they were on. Pila was just a kid, despite the fact that she was older than Fi, and she was lucky that Fi was in agreement with her about the purple bellies needing to die. However, Violet wasn't attracted to violence the way Fi was. She was about to mention that when the girl pointed out her bag and the glow that was coming from it. "My purse?" She made her eyes wide and confused, looking first at Pila and then over at her bag. "Oh that, it's my data pad. I like to keep up on my celebrity gossip," She stood gracefully, padding the few steps over to her purse and pulling out her datapad, keeping it tilted so that the other woman couldn't see it. The alert was from The Cressida. Security Breach. The smile froze as rage swiftly filled her. The soft stance hardened to battle-ready and her mind raced to figure out if it would be easier to get rid of Pila via excuses or to simply hide her body. Neither. Alliance soldiers were already on the ship and had hold of Rosalee, the child's mother was there as well. When the Black Widow was involved things were about to go ass up, and not in the fun way either. Fi's eyes were no longer smiling and friendly as she looked over at Pila. What to do? They didn't have much time, not if they wanted to keep up with the purple bellies. Who knew what they were doing to Drew too? Doc had saved her life on far too many occasions for Fi not to need to save him from pain. Her Jaw locked a moment as possible places where Pila's body may not be found for days at the very least popped into her head. The trick was getting there, again messy and time consuming. "The problem with happiness and unicorns and glitter is that it doesn't come with the option of suicide. That being the case I don't have a lot of choices left for you," She set her data pad gently on the table and pulled one of her knives from under her shirt. It was hilt-heavy, which made throwing it awkward, but it was good for a lot of other things. Hammering nails and temples for instance. Edited by Seraphina Grant, May 13 2010, 01:13 AM.

Pila noticed the change in "Violet" almost instantly. The second the woman looked at her data pad, the coldness hiding in her eyes extended to the rest of her. Impressive; Pila had almost believed that she wasn't a killer, that she was a peaceful young thing. Now she saw that her gut instinct had been right. The woman in front of her was not only dangerous, but it looked as if she was set to snuff out the fire-eater permanently as well. "Yeah, last I checked most folk who are all sparkles and sunshine don't have contingency plans that involve knives," she said, her voice as laced with menace as the other woman's had been. Her own knife was smaller, and she wasn't sure she could take her aggressor. After all, the other woman looked like a warrior, a soldier. Pila had been many things in her life, but a soldier wasn't one of them. Any knife fighting she had done had been untrained, and most of it in the streets of Ni-Tokyo. She didn't really want a fight; she surely didn't want to fight "Violet". As far as she had gathered, they were on the same side of things, though know it appeared that the other woman had other plans. "We don't gotta fight... I ain't seen nothin' I can't rightly forget..." she said, reaching for the knife in her own pocket, just in case. |

Fi didn't move, her face still implacable as she stared at the clown. Her dark blue eyes stayed glued to Pila's but she didn't miss the movement of the woman's hands. "I wouldn't. See I don't actually plan to kill you. There isn't enough time to the hide a body. If you pull your little pocket knife out, that means you want violence, and I wont have a choice anymore," She took a step forward, still holding the knife loosely in her fingers as she watched the woman contemplatively. She didn't know her well enough to know if she was still gonna pull the weapon, but she was kind of hoping she would. A tiny part of her firmly believed it would simply be easier if Pila was dead, dead bodies were always easier to explain than living bodies with open mouths and flapping tongues. Of course she could always just remove the tongue ... but then she'd still be able to work. Killing someone was far less cruel than removing hands and tongue so they couldn't communicate. Fi didn't want to be cruel. Pila was inquisitive and yet strangely trusting, something that irritated Fi a hell of a lot more than she'd ever thought it would. She didn't trust their covers so she tried to bond with them, which was rather naive of her which just pissed her off even more. How can someone so bright be so dumb? It didn't help that the others seemed to honestly like the fire eater. She didn't like disappointing her friends. Of course, she liked them being in danger even less. This was why it was easier to simply dislike everyone. No worries about disappointing people or feeling bad about having to hide a body where their loved ones will likely never find it. "All my contingency plans involve knives. The trick right now, is to figure out how those knives are going to affect you and your health because I don't actually trust you. So, what do you suggest?" Not only was she actually curious about the woman's answer, but she wanted to distract her for a moment or two. Knocking her out would give her a few minutes to think. |

Pila slid the knife back into her pocket slowly, her eyes locked on the other woman. If she was telling the truth, it would be better to go along with her. If she was lying... then Pila would be dead and wouldn't really have to worry about it, now would she? She held her hands up for "Violet" to see, palms facing her. "I don't want violence either; I've seen enough to last me several lifetimes," she said, lowering her head just slightly. Sometimes being submissive could save your ass. "I suggest you trust me enough to leave me alive, since hidin' my body would be a real pain in the behind. I'm content to do whatever you need me to do, so long as I don't gotta die to do it," she told the other woman, her voice level and steady. "Just tell me what you need me to do an' I swear on the Buddha's bald head I'll behave." Pila was more than willing to go along with the other woman, not only because she had little choice but because it was adventure, and adventure was something that her life had been sorely lacking as of late. Hopefully her life would continue long enough for her to have more adventures... Edited by Pila Xiahou, May 16 2010, 05:27 PM.

Good, the girl was taking her hands out of her pockets. Fi took a few slow steps forward as Pila mentioned simply doing whatever Fi wanted. Smart words, but the blond wasn't the trusting sort who would simply go on a strangers words. She seemed a little worried, but Fi wasn't always good with reading people. Something about being a paranoid pessimist. She needed to put Pila out, but she didn't want to fight with her. Someone would hear and though it was time to hang up the 'Violet' persona, she needed to use it long enough to get off this damn boat. "Pretty words." Fi's voice was flat as she stepped closer still, eyeballing the woman that still had her hands held up a little. It took a moment for her to lash forward and slam the pommel of the knife into the taller woman's temple. She watched her crumple to the ground dispassionately and nudged her hard with her toes to see if she was really unconscious. She was, so then Fi knelt to check her pulse just to be sure she could stay that way. Fi stood and walked to the table with her datapad, picking it up and sending out a coded message to her crew on the Bing Quan. "I need some help for heavy lifting in conference room 79 on Deck C. Time for a hasty retreat," She cut it off there, not wanting to give any extra information. She didn't need people going crazy on her. Her finger flicked to a different screen and she watched Tessa Lucas, the Black Widow, and Jon MacKenzie with a terrified Rosalee Williams. This couldn't end well. |

Mission end. Get out, get packed. Hunter had made his way as quickly to his room as physically possible without calling attention to himself. They had packed just in case of this sort of emergency. Big and bulky on the way in, but everything essential could be stuffed into a small duffel that any circus performer easily would have no problem justifying toting around. Had to carry your practice gear somehow right? Hunter had jammed a lot of clothing and fluff belongings down into the room's incinerator. A framed 'picture' of him and Sasha's wedding, clothes that were actually his but didn't have space to bring back, Aleksei's performance costume.... far to many sequins. Finally he was down to the basics, just zipping up the bag when it made that little dinging sound that signaled an important message from the team. It was his blasted 'data pad' Fi had made him take. Hunter hated the things. They were so damn touchy! one miss tap on the screen and you apparently were erasing the whole of the hard drive and they really weren't very good at taking a beating. He'd accidentally shattered one of their screens before because he had set a hot cup of coffee down on a counter without realizing the thing was there. Really not a durable piece of machinery, nothing like an engine which could actually take a hit and a little wear and continue to work. Opening the bag back up Hunter pulled the screen out, having to take a moment to figure out how to open the message. He managed to open four other programs first. Muttering a string of curses to himself as he finally got the message the man took pause. That deck was not far from his room at all, in fact he might be the closest to help and he was already packed. But... how was me meant to reply to these things again? He nearly chucked the pad at the wall across the room when it started flashing a blue screen and a string of code at him. Fuck this! Checking the safety on his favorite pistol Hunter nestled it against the small of his back, shrugging on the black jacket to cover his concealed holster and the knives he had hidden on his person. The man almost felt a bit like Fi the way he was outfitted with the things, it was odd for him not to be carrying any pliers. But any weapon he had right? Head to be prepared for this crisis that was happening even if no one had told him yet. Minutes later he was outside the room indicated in the message, and slipped in the doors, back turned as soon as he noted Fi to lock the doors. "That gorram flimsy piece of crap you keep handing me's more'n useless. Can't do anything without having to teach yourself some crazy new method and things pop up and... the hell..." He'd noticed Pila finally, tossing his duffel to the floor and eyes flicking back up to Fi. Orders not to ask be damned. "The hells goin' on? What the fire eater got to do with things?" Another pause and Hunter crossed to the limp body, kneeling down to check for a pulse. How we gonna toss a body if we're movin' fast? Incinerators flag that type of thing. |

Fi turned and glared as Hunter entered the room. She'd already had time to go to her own room, dump the nonessentials and bring back her smaller bag and the horrendously pink trunk the gaudy sequined perky outfits had been stuffed into. That was tucked under the table so that no one could see it if they came in. What they would see was Pila, laying out on the floor. If Hunter had bothered checking the girl instead of simply drawing conclusions then he would have smelled the alcohol she'd poured on the woman and seen that she was breathing. "I know that, that's why I didn't kill her," Fi glared up at the much taller man, letting him know that she believed he was an epic moron at the moment. She reached under the table and pulled out the large trunk that was nearly the same size as she was. She let it fall flat and flipped open the lid before glaring at him again. "Why didn't you wave me so I knew you were coming? I've been sitting here wondering if I should just break her neck and hide her in the walls somewhere," She turned to give him the evil eye again. He would be paying for the sequins and sparkles when everything that was going down was over with. Fi looked over at him again, nothing but the small duffel bag on him and nothing was glowing. She snatched the bag away from him, unzipping it and pawing through his things. It would be just like him to have tossed the data pad, he couldn't handle small electronics. She pulled out the instrument, ignoring his comments as she flicked it on and then sighed in irritation. "Will you please stop trying to kill the electronics?" She demanded, ignoring the body of the unconscious fire eater as she stepped over the thin woman to grab her own data pad and hook it up to his. It was the work of a minute to fix the blue screen he had brought forth, she had done this so many times that she was well used to it. "We're bringing her with us, we'll figure out what to do with her later. Help me get her into the trunk," Fi pulled the taller womans feet up and toward the ghastly pink thing she'd been living out of for the last few days. She would be squished a bit, but she would be alive and it's not like she'd be locked up for all that long. Just until they got to the shuttle. Well ... maybe until they got to the Cressida. It might be better not to tell people who or what was in the trunk at first. Maybe not until they were on the ship ... or until after everything on the ship was taken care of. Fi tried to think how long it would be until it was no longer safe for the woman to be locked in the trunk. Edited by Seraphina Grant, May 16 2010, 08:07 PM.

She wasn't dead. Good. His fingers told him so before Fi's stern tone had time to sink in. Testy testy! Hunter had been pulled out of a bar after all... and even if it was only one double shot the scent of alcohol wasn't setting off any alarms as strange for him right now. "I tried but it was just faster to come up here on my own. Those things were designed by monkeys on coke. Ain't make a damn lick of sense, we need a better way of talking. Radios used to work just fine." He was grumbling a bit like an old man, eyes taking in the contents of the room as the woman fiddled with that stupid little screen and its super sensitive and temperamental interface. Really? They didn't have anything better lined up than stuffing an unconscious body in a trunk... things really were a little crunch right now. Hunter simply knelt and scooped the small unconscious woman off the floor. No sense in dragging her around like that, she was already going to have one hell of a wake up with that knot on her head. Looked like true to form Fi had given her a good hard merciless hit. "You gone beat her down well enough already there buttercup. I got it." He lowered the fire eater into the case, rolling her onto her side none to gently and having to tuck her knees nice and tight up against her chest. "Got anything to keep her out? Last thing we need is a screaming girl in a trunk right now." And it didn't go over his head that the little blonde had completely ignored his questioning. Looking around for something to pad the hostage's already injured head, he flicked dark brown eyes at the woman. "Still waiting on that explanation, Gwen gone came tearing into the bar actin' stiff as a board. What you two got going?" |

Fi gave him another look that implied his brains had dropped to his ass. "Radios would make people think that we're up to something," She went back to tugging at Pila's feet for a few short moments more before Hunter was picking the woman gently up and trying to carefully position her in the trunk. She narrowed her guys at his newest term of endearment before focusing on his next words. She raised an eyebrow and walked over to lift one of the woman's eyelids. "She'll be out long enough to meet up with Cora," Fi shrugged. She waited until he was turned a bit away and then reached up and cuffed him over the head for calling her buttercup. Hunter wasn't stupid, he knew something was up and if Gwen had found him first and wouldn't tell him shit, than that meant she knew what was going on as well. They needed Hunter calm and focused, they didn't know him well enough for Fi to trust that he wouldn't touch their crew while in a blind rage. "Need to know and if Cap'n didn't tell you then you don't need to know," She tossed him a taunting smirk, just to piss him off. It wasn't something she was feeling inside though. Inside she knew without a doubt that her new comrade was gonna hit the fan like proverbial shit as soon as he discovered his daughter was missing. Then the fun was gonna start. She knew enough about Hunter to know he was loyal and dangerous when cornered. Throwing his sassy little brat into the mix was gonna up that about 3 times the norm. It would be interesting, maybe not safe but then safe was usually overrated anyway. |

The only reaction her palm smacking against the back of his head got was a sideways look and a crooked grin. Yup, he'd be keeping that one for the list! This meditation room cover was working out pretty well to Pila's advantage; you know, as well as things could once you were knocked out cold and being stuffed into a giant pink suitcase. The towels he grabbed off the floor were going in along with her, one wrapped haphazardly around her head to keep it padded and the other supporting her neck in case of... rough handling. Satisfied the young woman wasn't gonna straight up die on them, (as desensitized as Hunter had become to the thing over the years he had no reason to want her dead) he flipped the lid closed to see how well it lined up. Not quite flush... "Looks like we'll need to do a little squeezing. You sit." Need to know? And as Acting First Mate he was out of this loop how? If something happened to the captain, Hunter had to have all the information to make quick decisions. Because if something happened to Gwen chances were something was about to happen to the rest of the crew too. "If we're pullin' some crazy ass manuever damn straight I make that short list. You can pull that on just 'bout everyone but I got put up on this position and I aim to get it done right." He was eying her skeptically, waiting for her to put weight on the trunk so he good latch it closed and they could get out of there. "And there's trouble with that... seems Cora picked up a taste for whiskey real recent and ain't picked up the skills to hold it. She's got a tongue as loose as a half credit whore out on Ezra." |

He was right, damn his eyes. He did deserve to know and Gwen should be the one telling him. Fi shot him a dirty look and plopped herself down on the top of the trunk, it didn't close. She sent an even darker look to Hunter. She sat there for a moment, looking at him even as she wished she were at least 90 pounds. "Drew's hurt, Rosie looks fine," They were true statements and Fi really was worried about the Doc. He had saved her life even when she wasn't sure she deserved it and he always had time for her. She bounced a little on the lid, glaring at it for a moment before standing up and gesturing for Hunter to sit on it. It was gonna be mighty uncomfortable for Pila if she woke up in there. Fi planted her hands on either hip and took a deep calming breath. She wasn't going to tell him anything else, and if he thought Gwen was overreacting a little because of her husband so be it. It wasn't her place to send the man off into a killing rage. |
