'I'm Losing to a Rug'; Rosie/Drew

Quoted from Aladdin, haha. Thought it fit the moment.

Drew looked over his cards. Rosie had won the last two hands, but there was no way she could beat his full house. It was a pair of eights and three jacks, and the odds of the petite blonde getting something better - even a royal flush - were slim to none. Especially since he'd taught her how to play less than an hour ago.

The Doctor wasn't the kind of man to let a child win - he believed they had to learn through trial and error. But Rosie hadn't been experiencing either of those. "A'right, Rugrat. Let's see if you can beat a full house, then, eh?" He let each individual card slap the table as he spread his hand in front of her.

To say that Rosalee and Drew hadn't been getting along was a gross understatement. She was still mad at him for decking Hunter, which Drew could respect in the tot. So when she'd agreed to play cards with him, albeit reluctantly, Drew was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully, the comraderie would continue, even if Drew's winning hand would hurt her.

Rosalee was perched atop the stack of thick books that had been added to the galley chair so she could see the table. Knobby knees were folded up to her chest and a serious look given just over the brim of five large cards spread carefully in both hands. So far that seemed to be the hardest part of this game; keeping the cards all in a line like that without dropping them. The rest was easy, just look at the other guy's face to see if they were nervous or not and do a good job of confusing them about what you had in you own hand! If you had a lot of cards that looked alike?? Make them think you didn't! Pout a little, get all fussy. If all of the pictures looked different you tried to make them think you had them all the same. And then sometimes you just did the opposite to keep them confused!

Bright blue eyes followed each card to the table, he had three of those people that looked like they could be boys or girls and two of the numbers that looked like loops! What had he called it again? Oh right, Full House, which was silly because they lived with a lot more than three people and they still had empty rooms! "An' I got four of the big symbols and one guy stabbing his head." Plopping her cards on the table the child broke away from the serious face to a little smile before dropping her feet from their perch, heels bumping against wooden spokes. "I win again! You're not very good at this game are you... we can play something else if'n you want? Go-fish is really fun and its easy if you want me to teach you."

Drew was about to reach for her cards, to gather them up and shuffle, when the five-year-olds' words suddenly made sense. "Wait...what?" Drew asked suddenly, drawing his brows together in confusion. She'd won again? "Are you sure yer Dah didn't teach you this already?" Drew asked, raising one eyebrow as he tilted his mouth up into a roguish smile.

Sometimes Drew could be a sore loser, but not when he was playing against a petite blonde child - plus, he'd been trying to work on his temper since decking said child's father. "Go fish?" He considered. He'd heard of it, though never played it himself. "Aye...maybe that'd be advisable."

How was he losing to Rosie? Drew couldn't quite make the thought make sense in his mind. He was pretty damn good at Poker - had been raised playing it - and it had come in handy when he'd changed over to the Alliance. It was easy to make enemies over a hand of poker, but it was also the best way to make friends, and gain their trust.

The same concept seemed to be holding true with the little blue-eyed blonde in front of him.

"Tell ya what - why don't you deal up that game, and I'll fix us somethin' fer lunch?"

"No he didn't. Daddy plays Go-Fish an' the one with the black guy named Jack and crazy eights and bullshit with me. I like bullshit cause you get to cheat and its in the rules!" She was struggling with the cards a little, trying to make them do that cool arch-y thing the doctor had done, but her hands were too small and ended up spraying them onto the table.

Oh well! She'd just have to do it her way! The young child stood on the chair and leaned over to smush around the cards across the table. That would mix them up! Picking seven out one by one she lay them face down as close to Drew's chair as she could reach, carefully trying to remember her numbers and count them out properly. Then seven for herself, and then she collected the rest into a pile in the middle.

Thats were they could go fishing from!

As she crouched to sit back in her chair the red light on the ceiling began to whirl around, a loud alarm blaring out over the intercom time and again. The child startled, going pale and looking wide eyed over at the only adult on the ship, calling out but half of her words were cut off by the sounding of alarms. "What ---- that! Should I ---- bad guys? I got ------!!!"

Drew nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound of the alarm. Shit.

It was Rosalee and Drew - that was it. No one else was on the ship. That alone was something to be terrified of, but having the alarms go off was not good. He'd set the parameter alarm earlier, just in case any Alliance ships decided to prod their sticks up Drew's ass.

And he had that sudden fear that he'd been right to take that precaution. Without thinking, he turned, grabbing up Rosie. He hadn't heard what she'd said, but he also had a feeling that he'd be glad not to have heard it. The tyke was going to grow up to be a real ball-buster.

Turning into the conference room - the closest place where he could find out what was happening - he saw his worst fears verified. They were being flagged by an Alliance Patrol Vessel...but that wasn't the half of it. It was the bastards that had tried to arrest Fi and Rora - the A.P.V. Shènglì. Drew let a curse slip out of his mouth as he switched off the alarm and darted back down to the Cargo Bay, Rosie tucked under one arm.

If he got down there in time, before they bypassed the airlock and had the belly of Cressie open to take whatever they wanted, he could hide Rosie away, tuck her into one of the secret compartments, and hopefully get out of this with at least her alive.

His feet clattered, the tyke's mouth was running, but Drew had on his determined face. He set her down next to the secret compartment, worry settling into the pit of his stomach. "Rosie...stop. I need you to be very quiet, savvy? I'm going to hide you, but the bad men are about to invade our space, aye? They're verra invasive and could easily hurt ye."

He reached over to unlatch the compartment, when he heard a sound that made his heart stop. He went pale, and tucked Rosie behind him. She was five. Whatever was about to happen was not something she should see, he was sure of that.

And he didn't have his gun. Gǒushǐ de jiùjiu de hóuzi.

Gǒushǐ de jiùjiu de hóuzi. - Shit of a monkey's uncle.

It wasn't that hard for the computer technicians on the Alliance vessel to crack in to the other ship's computers. Her course was interrupted, the ship all but stopped to allow the larger ship to dock with her. As fine a ship as the Cressida's crew thought she was, there was only so much the ship could withstand without said crew being there. To the Captain of the Shènglì it had been a surprise to see what he had learned was his sister's ship trailing the Bǐng Quān. A ship such as hers had no place in that sector of space let alone so close to the rich and famous. Her crew was motley at best.

As the seal of the Wayfarer broke with a hiss the Alliance security force that he had assembled stormed in filling the empty ship with the sounds of feet rushing and loud voices. They knew their parts- secure the vessel as well as her crew. With no one there to greet them, though, it made the elder MacKenzie a little more than smug. "I want every inch of this ship searched. Leave nothing untouched or undisturbed. These people were former Independents. If there is a connection still I want to know it." The sergeant in charge nodded his head, hurrying off and billowing orders to his team. "Find Jackson. I want him to pull the files of the ship and see what he discover about their manifest or planned drops. Things that the Spencer-Dai Company will not let us know when asked through the proper channels."

His sisters ship. Jon's smug smile grew larger as he moved through her cargo hold. He wouldn't involve himself in the search, of course, but he wouldn't mind stopping to take a gander at some items that might be found there.

Tessa didn't like the smug look on Captain MacKenzie's face, but that wasn't something she had to be bothered with. She was tired of playing in her room doing nothing so she'd invited herself along to the shakedown of the little vessel that so bothered the captain. She left both guns in their holsters as she moved forward, her heels making little clip noises and the soldiers with her sharing looks at her choice of attire. They could question all the liked.

Tessa's first move was to the billets. She took a left and moved up the stairs, smacking the button on the first door and entering. Whoever had this room was new, nothing posted to the wall, no dirt no dust, everything neatly in it's place. Even Alliance soldiers bunks looked more lived in after a few months. She gestured for the two soldiers with her to tear apart the room as she looked for possibly hidden nooks and crannies. She found one panel that popped out of the wall, but the space within was devoid of all but a bit of dust. She leaned against the wall with her arms crossed over her chest as she watched the two people finish their 'inspection' and then turned on her 4 inch heel to leave the room.

The next room was more interesting. Bright colors, engine parts and satin clothes. One of the soldiers held up a pair of black lace panties and grinned at the other. Tessa lowered an even gaze at him and he tossed the underwear back into the pile. She pretended not to notice when she saw him stuff them in his pocket minutes later. They turned up nothing in this room either, someone named Aurora from the tag on the wall. Still, a milkrun shakedown was better than sitting and mulling over thoughts that would only eat you alive.

Rosalee Melody Williams did not like being dragged around against her will when it wasn't because of a game they were playing. She did everything she could to try and break out of the potato sack hold the large man had her locked into! All those things that usually worked after a while; yelling, pleading, squirming, kicking and generally flailing around in any way possible. But stupid Drew wasn't letting go! He didn't look like he was listening! Stupid adults always doing what they wanted and just ignoring you because you were littler... They were powering down the stairs toward the cargo bay when she finally gave up, huffing slightly and looking around, expecting a monster to pop out of nowhere.

What was even worse? Dot had been left behind on the chair beside hers! Drew had taken her away so quickly she couldn't grab him, and the man didn't slow down for a single step. How was her bear supposed to protect himself up there? He didn't have a weapon or a place to hide and he was all alone and probably scared. In all honesty Rosie was really very scared too, a slight tremor taking control of her whole body. There wasn't anybody here other than the doctor, and for the first time she could almost ever remember Daddy wasn't going to be able to come back and get her the moment there was trouble. He was stuck away, for a couple days he said, but Drew was going to take care of her. How was Doctor Drew going to fight off all the bad guys by himself? He couldn't was the answer, which meant Rosie had to help too, no matter how scared she was.

Drew finally placed her on the floor and she looked up wide eyed, listening to his instructions carefully and just about to protest being told to hide when she heard the hiss of the airlock breaking. Anyone who lived on a ship knew that sound, it meant you could finally go outside or that people could actually come inside. She didn't hesitate, blue eyes flicked to the nearest vent and she was off, little hands pulling open the grate and slipping inside in a flash. She wasn't big enough to help out there, and Drew had said she needed to stay out of sight, so she would take her attack into the vents. That was one of the places in the universe being little was actually an advantage.

First thing though, she had to go get her tools. Then she was getting Dot.

A moment before, Rosie had been standing right there, looking scared, though attempting to give him that brave facade that had become relatively familiar. The next, she was gone, darting up and into the vent system. Good. The five-year-old was smart, she'd figure out something, at least stay safe that way.

That was what Drew forced himself to think, but in actuality, he was terrified for her. He'd grown attached to the tyke, ever since she'd caused that red-and-blue bruise in his leg.

That gorram Captain hadn't spotted Drew yet, which left him a few precious moments to decide what, exactly he could do. A weapon seemed fruitless - he had too many Alliance-trained soldiers. Drew did a mental check in his head - any information on the operation had been either destroyed or taken with and hidden on Fi's person - just in case this had happened. He hoped to god nothing had been left behind.

"Pardon me, can I help you find somethin' specific?" Drew's voice rang in the empty ship, exclaiming the point that it was just as empty as it seemed. Irritation came off of Drew in waves, and he crossed his muscled arms over his chest as he watched the other man - no, bastard. There was nothing human about him.

Michael didn't think a shakedown of the ship was completely necessary, he followed orders. There was nothing more in the equation than that. He watched as Tessa disappeared into Crew Bunk area, while he took a few into the conference area. There were a few papers, but they were nothing more than medical supply lists. He motioned to the table, and the soldiers kicked it over. There was nothing hidden, and the room was clear.

"I want the computer," he told them. There might be something there, and one of the men proceeded to rip the motherboard out of the wall, while he led the other two toward the Bridge.

It looked clean, nothing out of place, albeit well-used. After roughing up the place, being sure they'd missed nothing - including ripping a few secret panels off the wall and taking out the boxes inside that held nothing more than pathetic - and now broken - trinket, he started back toward the rear of the ship, slipping into the bunk areas to run a quick check over some of them.

Forcefully boarding an unknown ship had been one of the last thing Casper expected his job to entail. Going in after the guns had already cleared the place to work on the security systems? Yes, of course, but that was well after the entire thing had been searched and all of its occupants detained and relieved of anything that might create a large whole in his chest cavity. But the order had come and all Casper could do was collect his diagnostic tools and his specially made access pad before stammering after the officer that had come to collect him.

Reason was meant to be ignored as it would seem.

Casper made sure to let just about all of the muscle bound tactical teams breach the entrance before pushing forward himself without the aid of any team build. Casper was kind of just floating about the quaint little vessel on his own, tasked with ripping her secrets from her in a most forceful manner. He even had to wear that horrid regulation weapon on his hip, nothing more than a nuisance that would get in the way as he tried to work. Because, Casper wasn't going to fool himself, if someone else intended the teen to be dead there was nothing he could do to really stop that except surrender. He certainly wasn't fast enough with a weapon to shoot back.

Loosely tailing the LT-Commander's group up into a meeting area Casper looked on in horror as they simply moved to rip computer panels from the wall with no protective equipment or checks or ceremony at all! They may as well just have turned a beautiful life-changing piece of art into a pile of fecal matter and wet dirt! Carson moved past Casper without even a second glance, but the man managed to work up the courage to step in front of the men carrying the insides of the machine before they escaped. Thank high heaven they were ranked below him.

"As a Communications Petty Officer I need you to leave this here on the table, the abrupt and forceful manner you have attempted to extract information with is more damaging than it is helpful." He was nervous for sure, a slight shake to his words, but in this of all things he wasn't going back down. He didn't like it when people destroyed perfectly good hardware without cause! "If LT-Commander Carson asks why you don't have the computer you are free to send him to any communications officer. We have jurisdiction over data. You are dismissed." The shocking thing? They actually followed his command, with plenty of dirty looks of course, but there wasn't any gun pointing or roughing up at all!

Casper reached into his bag, withdrawing static sheeting and the covers for his boots, grounding his body to electric neutral by touching one of the metal objects in the room. Now he could properly handle the motherboard without fear of frying all the circuitry, if those brutes hadn't ruined it all already. Now to tediously place it back into the housing before he could boot it up and start to work at the encryptions.

Boarding a ship without a bio-scan was a risky move, especially for a outfit of their size. Rollan couldn't tell if he liked the Captain's course of action yet here he was standing beside him, com-link in ear as he listened to officer chatter. The ship's main computer had been found and was currently being surveyed while the rest of the teams scoured the ship.

"Aside from giving our selves away, Captain, I can't seem to understand why you didn't order a bio-scan before we boarded. Rollan spoke as he lowered the volume on his link, "Not that I'm doubting your judgment, I'm only curious as it's typically standard procedure. The commander still didn't know Captain MacKenzie well enough to know how he worked, hopefully he wasn't overstepping his boundaries with his question. There was something about the look on his face that lead to possibly the idea something hadn't been discussed in their debriefing, something personal perhaps. Rollan hated not getting the full story, but then again, who didn't?

While waiting for the Captain to reply, Rollan replaced his link and opened the channel to the sergeant in charge, "Ping S.O. Vibeke for me and tell her to keep an eye on the ship's perimeter, I'd hate for somone to sneak up on us while we work."

"I've met the crew of this ship before, Commander. All of them have some sort of tie to the Independents." Taking the steps up toward the top level of the ship, Jon didn't hesitate a single moment in his actions. It was like he owned the ship the way he walked with his head held high and back straight. "The little girl that is a guest upon the Shènglì was being raised by people who had connections to the Underground. If the woman who allowed these people to raise her daughter knew of this, then there must be a connection here." And Jonathan was going to find it. Somehow, but he was going to. Rounding the steps closer to the engine room he paused in the entrance to the larger crew room on the ship which meant it had to be the Captain's room. Smirking openly the older man leaned inside to watch the destruction that was being caused within. He knew his men would report anything of interest to him before he himself would search it.

Glancing back to Rollan he motioned for him to continue following as they made their way toward the galley. "You see, Commander, my sister isn't the brightest of people in the Universe. Had there been people aboard the ship they wouldn't have left her on autopilot as well as stayed on course like the ship did. Scans indicated that the ship was in perfect working order and knowing my sister she wouldn't have put any traps on her ship or left it in this state unless she had good reason." Stepping in to the galley the black uniformed man simply glanced the space over as every inch of the ship was searched. "An empty ship with no reason to be empty. We are only doing or civic duty in checking her over."

Meanwhile as the crews searched the ship one of the only crew members from the Cressida made his appearance. Needless to say there was a good five men all well armed and with weapons pointed toward him. The security officer tapped the earpiece switching channels to where the Commander had to be listening. "Sir, we've found one of the crew members. Orders?"

Having made no direct threat, Drew was rather unpleasantly reminded about why he'd decided to leave the many shiny ranks of the Alliance. He'd been grabbed, searched, and shoved toward the airlock, then promptly shoved to the floor in front of the heartless man.

Drew, though, didn't let out more'n a grunt. "I asked yer men a question, they decided to be awful rude'n not answer. Is there somethin' you be needin' right now?" He stood, brushing off his pants as he did so.

He was terrified. For Rosie, for the ship, and the Crew, who'd be stuck with no out. Drew would be dead, Rosie...he didn't know if she'd stay in the vents or not. And they'd all be lost, trapped by the laws of the Union of Allied Planets that fully screwed them over and over again.

The child made quick time, climbing through the ventilation system with the grace of a practiced spelunker. All that time she had spent roaming through these tunnels and ones like them on other ships pretending to fight off bad guys was finally coming true! That was the only way her young mind could really cope with all of this.

She had finally scampered all the way to the upper deck, where most of the crew quarters were. Her father had told her to stay away from these tunnels because people on this crew were all particular like about this thing he called "pry-fasy". Rosie didn't really understand it too well, basically people wanted to keep secrets and you were supposed to stay away so you didn't accidentally find them out? But hadn't daddy also said secrets were bad to keep from people you trusted? And they could trust Rosie! She wasn't a purple belly or nothing. Not even a little bit, her tummy was pink!

The child paused before each grate that opened into a room, careful to quietly peer down and check if anyone was inside. Her eyes went wide, her entire tiny body held rigid above Rora's. There were people in there! And they were ripping through her things! That wasn't keeping pry-fasy for someone else at all! Which meant that they really were bad people... The woman in the middle looked out of place. She was a million miles tall and her clothes were all clean and neat, no rips or wholes in them like anybody on the crew's or even the rest of the invaders. They were all wearing the same thing really, except for her. And they were all giving her little quiet glances like they had done something wrong and didn't want to get punished for it. Rosalee knew that face well.

As soon as they left she breathed easy and had to think. Her tools were in her room which was across the hall, and there might be bad guys in her room too. Her gun might even be in one of the up high drawers of her daddy's if she looked; but until she got a hand on any of those she had nothing for a weapon. A quick glance around and she whispered quietly to herself. "Sorry Ms. Fi... don't gut me please..." And she was snatching a camera off the wall sticking it into her pocket. Four minutes later she had collected another four of them and was lowering herself down into Rora's room. The vent would have to stay wide open like that, because after the child hit the bed with a thud there was no way she was getting all the way up there to close it again.

Next step: Get across the hall without getting seen.

While A.K. bloody hated the fact that she was trapped on the ship, she was glad that she was at least playing an important role in the mission. She was watching for other ships, making sure that they weren't spotted boarding the Cressida. While the mission they were on wouldn't be questioned, it was still rather clandestine and the fewer witnesses, the better. After all, witnesses tended to make things messy.

The Security Officer watched the view-screens carefully, her eyes trained to pick up anything that was out of the ordinary. She had a few enlisted guys watching too, in the event that she missed something. There were three-hundred and sixty degrees to watch, after all, and a ship could pop into their view at any time.

One of the boys, a recently enlisted kid that A.K. sort of liked for his doe-eyed innocence, spotted something and tapped her on the shoulder.

"Lieutenant Vibeke, it appears we have company. Unidentified vessel at ten o'clock, headed towards the Bǐng Quān."

"Wǒ kào... " She muttered, opening the com between herself and Commander Strauss. "Roll... Commander Strauss, there's a ship headed this way..."

She paused and opened communications between the Shènglì and the oncoming vessel. Playing soldier with the bigger gun would be easy, if they were any sort of trouble.

"This is Lieutenant Vibeke of the Alliance Patrol Vessel Shènglì. State your destination and major cargo," she said as sternly as she could. The voice that came back over the comm sounded a bit intimidated, so she had done her job.

"This is the Motor Ferry Saturn, cargo is passengers to the Bǐng Quān," the man on the other end said quickly. Adelis let out a small sigh of relief. Tourists weren't too much of a worry, but the away team definitely needed to get their butts moving.

"Roger that Saturn, just a routine check-in. Go about your business," she said before shutting off communications with the ferry. She had left Strauss' comm on so that he could hear any interaction between the ships, in the event that there had been trouble. "Hear that Commander? Just a passenger vessel, but we'd still better get moving, Sir."

Tessa paused as she entered the next room. Her pause was only a moment and the men with her didn't seem to notice as they began to tear it apart. It was a relatively normal room as it went, though one that was being shared by a man and a tiny female person. Her face was a mask of apathy, the kind she always wore, but inside she was starting to panic. On the wall was a picture of a tall man with brown hair and brown eyes, wide muscled shoulders that she distinctly remembered caressing. He was kneeling a bit and his well muscled arms were wrapped loosely around a tiny blond with bright blue eyes and an even brighter smile. Tessa felt her heart thud against her chest.

"Looks like there's a kid on board," One of the man picked up a stuffed toy and Tessa snatched it away from him, narrowing his eyes when he opened his mouth to comment. "We aren't bullies to be destroying a childs toy," She ran her hands over the creature, Dot, checking for odd lumps. Nothing, it was simply a well loved toy. She held it in her hands for a moment, her thumbs smoothing over it's face as she looked it over. Dot had been a present from a companion that had helped Tessa long ago, before she'd died in an incident that was covered up to look like an accident.

Tessa held on to Dot as she moved to look through the dressers and clothes, taking a fraction longer than needed so that she could run her fingers carefully over the tiny clothes that could only belong to her daughter. She kept a stony silence and ignored the whispers of the men behind her as they commented about an Ice Queen having a heart. If they had hurt Dot Tessa wasn't sure she wouldn't have hurt them.

She peered into the hall, leaning just barely past the door frame, jumping back as two men marched shoulder to shoulder in the connecting hallway that lead to her own bedroom. Uh oh! She stood very still for a few long moments, counting to ten like she was playing hide-and-go seek except for only in her head and not out loud. A second look and everything seemed to be all clear.

Pulling out one of the camera's in her pocket Rosie bent over and stuffed it in her shoe. All the adults kept weapons hidden in funny places, so maybe she should to? She scampered out, keeping close to the wall, a second camera appearing in her hand. The next hallway had a bunch of people in it, and they were all outside her door! She needed to make a distraction... no way she could attack them with five men there.

Pulling away from the corner she whimpered slightly, arms and legs suddenly feeling very weak and shaky. This was really scary... she just wanted daddy and the crew to come home now and beat them all up and... but that wasn't going to happen. And Dot was in there! Taking a deep breath and trying to stand up as big as she could the young child cocked her arm back, taking aim and hurling the thing a far as she could down the opposing hall before diving behind the edge of the door and pressing as flat as she could.

The tiny machine ricocheted off the wall about twenty feet away with a clang, scraping along as it tumbled farther and caught the attention of the guards. "What was that?" "I dunno, come on! We've been ordered to neutralize all passengers. " Men jogged past and Rosie did her best to count, 1... 2... 3... uhmmm 4.... five! that was all of them! She darted out around the corner, her tiny footsteps masked by the sounds of multiple boots chasing after the sound, aiming for her bedroom and all her supplies. Almost there!

But a figure loomed out of the doorway, a large male, looking down at her with an expression of surprise. Rosie squeaked and tried to get around him down the hall to the safety of another vent, but he was way to fast. "I found her! Sh-- OW!" In a moment she was in the air, struggling like mad to get free, teeth sinking hard into the arm that dared get close enough to her and clawing at his hand. No no no! Not this! They'd caught her! "Help!" She called out, terror lining her tone, but knowing it was futile. the only person that was her friend at all was the Doctor and she had no idea where he was.

It was the first shout, that 'I've found her!' that had made her heart skip a beat. The second sound, the terrified shriek for help that wasn't going to come that made her move. She'd been on her feet and turned around, ready to snap someones neck without a second thought when her brain caught up. There would be no getting out of it and in no way would that save the struggling child that was in his arms.

"Do not hurt her," Tessa's voice was clear and cold, and her words were a definite order. The man gave her a look she'd come to recognize easily, the one that said they thought she was completely nuts. She watched, a tiny smirk appearing on her mouth as the tiny child raked her nails down the man's face, drawing blood. He grunted in pain as he tried to move her without causing pain. He didn't like the slight smile on Tessa's face, or the way her hand was gently caressing the butt of her gun, like she was waiting for an opportunity to take him out.

"Miss Lucas, permission to knock her out?" The man demanded as she bit down hard on his hand even as she kicked backwards. He tugged his hand free and she managed to catch her heel in his crotch at that exact moment. Tessa didn't move to stop the girl as she darted forward. She didn't need to. Stooge number two snatched her up, tossing her over his shoulder like a bag of ferocious kittens. He flinched as she jerked around and snatched a handful of hair from his head.

"Permission denied." She informed the man that was on the ground, one hand between his legs and the other over the gauges on his face. She nudged him with the toe of her pretty purple pumps, a faint look of disgust on her face. She moved behind the other man, who was smart enough to hold tight to the youngsters feet.

"We don't hurt children, you'll be safe," Tessa announced, one hand on her gun and the other still holding Dot. She hadn't actually realized she was still holding the stuffed creature, but she knew that it would make Rosie feel better. It always had. Sadly her promise might not actually be one hundred percent true. At least not yet. The safety part was questionable at best if Veldon discovered her little secret. Her life expectancy would drop drastically as well.

The little girl gave a wordless shriek and managed to dig her nails into the back the soldiers neck, drawing more blood. He made a sound of anger and jerked the girls legs, causing her to bounce painfully on his shoulder. Tessa's eyes darkened and she took the girl from him, depositing her in the arms of the other shoulder without so much as a by-your-leave. Then he was on the ground gripping his jaw, both afraid and awed by the speed with which she had just pistol whipped him. The other man took firm hold of the girl, no longer holding his own wounds as he stared at Tessa. The gun was still in one hand while Dot was in the other, her face a mask of cold indifference.

"Did I not say no harm to the girl?" Her voice was ice cold and the other man gulped nervously. His jaw was likely cracked. She holstered the weapon and turned on her heel, leaving the man on the ground as she snapped her fingers at the other man. "We're taking her to Captain MacKenzie," Inwardly Tessa wanted to kill every soldier there and take her daughter somewhere else. Hunter had failed her. He had let the Alliance find Rosie and now they were taking her captive.

There were tears streaming down her face as she fought hard, clawing and flailing and attacking the men as best she could. She didn't notice the tall red headed woman from the other room until she was in front of her with Dot in her hands. That caused the child to screech fighting even more to get at the animal and out of one of the men's arms. "Cào nĭ zŭxiān shí bă dai! You let him go! My mommy gave me Dot! Give him back or I'm gonna make you sorry you liúmáng!" Her voice was high as any young girl's, but it packed a surprising amount of anger in there. Usually hopeful little blue eyes clouded by tears and rage.

It didn't seem to matter how much she fought this man, he only held her tighter and tighter, trying to cease her struggling until she was having trouble breathing his grip was so tight. Her eyes never left Dot, but her screams had shortened considerably with so much less air available to use. This was exactly what her daddy had always been worried about. He'd always said it wouldn't happen but he had told her to be good and try to stay calm if they ever did catch her, but not to tell them anything, just make up stories. He'd also promised he would come and get her. Swore that on his life and on Dot! "Ain't no where no how I won't come after you baby girl. They won't hurt you none either, just gonna keep you until I come for ya understand?"

From down the hall Rosalee's little distraction had been found. The men trotted back to the commotion, one in front with a small device cupped in his hand. "We found this Ma'am. Its some sort of wireless camera and it was on the ground."
