The Companion had thus far enjoyed her time on the Bǐng Quān. She had been pampered as was proper to her status, her skin treated with fine clays, her face tended to, her body massaged into a state of pure relaxation. Luxury cruisers were the way to go; why hadn't her father tried to set her up with something like this? The Cressida was small and cramped compared to this, and Companions made arrangements with luxury cruisers all the time! Perhaps he was trying to teach her some sort of lesson... the bastard. Sri was dressed in one of her better saris, a pretty green and blue one with silver embroidery all through it. Her hair was pulled back in a silver clasp shaped like a crescent moon, and her makeup was done up to match the silver and blue theme. She decided to make her way down to the carnival and see if she could perhaps win some of the cheap toys to take back to the crew; mayhap it would earn her a little bit of their trust. A stuffed animal for each of the children would at least be a nice gesture. She stepped up the one of the booths where a person had to shoot a pop-gun at moving wooden ducks. She could manage something as simple as that, couldn't she? She paid her credits to try and attempted to take the first duck out. Damn! She wasn't very good at this... longingly, she looked up at the teddy bear hanging on display. She had to get one of those for Rosalee, and perhaps a pop-gun like the one she was shooting for Jean... |

(Hope you don't mind me throwing Tom in here, I was bored and saw that no one has posted this in days) Tom... no, Percy, what a ridiculous name, was bored from practicing tricks all day. It had not been long since they had boarded and while he did know some magic, he did not want to be outed because he fouled up one trick. It was even more difficult with his wrist in a cast. Thankfully, he had been able to get it into something a little softer, but one wrong move and he could break it again or send himself into severe pain. Those were not things that he wanted or needed at this moment. Pain would not help with his show and he might be credited as no talent and then, how could he gain trust of crew aboard this ship? That was what he was supposed to be doing anyway. So, deciding that he was going to go out and try to get friendly (what an idea to him! He usually kept his distance) with people, he went from the room he was having to stay in. The ship was huge and he had only been on one once before in his life. He had not been born in one of the core planets, but his parents did have a good deal of money and they only splurged once for a family vacation. He understood why they had never taken one before that or after. He was too much trouble for them to handle on a big ship. He pushed away the unwanted memories of the past and looked around for anyone that could be part of the Bǐng Quān and would know something. Most of them were working and those he did find were dull and he dismissed himself quickly. Soon, he was walking around aimlessly until he saw the companion playing a shooting game. With a smirk, he watched her struggle for a moment before approaching. "You shoot like a girl." |

Sri turned on her heel to see the handsome pilot of the Cressida standing behind her. She didn't know him particularly well, and definitely didn't know his name, so she just smirked at him when he chided her shooting. "Unfortunately, marksmanship is not one of the things they teach us in our Companion training," she told him, nodding towards the teddy bear above their heads. "I was trying to win that for the little girl, Rosalee. I thought she might like a present from my time on board." She smiled more genuinely and cocked her head to one side. "I apologize, but I don't know your name. I'm Sri, I only boarded with the Cressida recently. I'm on vacation here while the rest of the crew does some manner of work... it looks like they let you vacation a bit too?" |

"Shooting a gun is useful. They should teach all of you that in your fancy school." He believed that it came in handy to know how to fire a gun. Even if it wasn't a huge gun and just a little pistol, they were always great for self defense and when didn't a woman need to defend themselves? Especially if they were constantly whoring themselves out, Tom thought that they needed it more. "Winning over affections? Don't know how well that's gonna go for you." The companion didn't know his name. He wasn't sure if he had expected her to because he didn't go around introducing himself to the new additions on Cressida. He wasn't sure what name to tell her. He wanted to say Tom, it was force of habit, really when that was what he went by every single day, but they were on a mission. What if she called him Tom while everyone was calling him Percy? He'd certainly get yelled at for that and probably kicked off the crew for having unintentionally blown the cover. "Percy," he said, but then he dropped his voice so that only she could hear it. "Right now, anyway." Better if she didn't know his real name until later. If there was a later. He shrugged his shoulders again. "Vacation, not really. On job myself, but I have some time to kill before I have to do anything." |

"Shooting a gun is a useful thing, I would suppose, but I always found violence to be a barbaric thing. Perhaps I should look into it, however, what with my traveling with this crew," she said, musing over the prospect of learning to shoot. It would be beneficial to know how to defend herself, especially trapped with this crew of scoundrels. Percy? What an odd name. She nodded her head and smiled as if that was the most fascinating name she had ever heard of. Half of being a Companion was thinking one thing while showing another, and she was an expert on it. "On the job? What is it, exactly, that the crew is doing on board this vessel? I was fed some hùnzhàng story about helping the crew here, but that seems a little... base for the crew members that I have met. They seem a bit too well-trained to be circus members on a whim," she said, her eyes narrowing. "And while I realize that I am not particularly well-liked, I do believe that it is in the best interest of everyone if I know what the wángbādàn is going on." The Companion let out a heavy sigh. "So, Percy, any advice on getting the crew to trust me enough to tell me the truth?" |

"Barbaric? I don't know, but what hasn't been decided by violence anymore?" That was about as philosophical as Tom got. he wasn't one to ramble on about things of that nature too much. "It'll be a handy thing to learn," he agreed. Tom was not going to tell her anything. It was not his place. Besides that, he was not sure if he trusted her. He was not fond of new people, he never was, and with her asking him all these questions, he didn't feel comfortable. Answering them would almost be betraying the crew. Even giving vague answers felt wrong. He knew he would have to tell her that he couldn't say a thing and it didn't bother him too much. She would just have to get used to being left in the dark. She was just a passenger after all. "If that's what they told you, then we're helping the crew. I'm the magician for this circus. Moonlighting as one... if you can call it that. Always wanted to be one," he replied, his last sentence dry and sarcastic. That was what he was told his role was anyway as part of the crew. There was a tiny bit of truth in it, that they had positions as circus folk aboard the ship, but he couldn't go telling the companion about the details of their mission. "You want to pry into this, you need to ask the captain. That's all I know: we're helping out here." That was complete bullshit. He didn't know if she'd be able to tell that, he wasn't a bad liar, but she seemed to know that things weren't what they seemed. He wasn't going to have Gwen flay him alive for giving away something. He cocked his head and pretended to think. He already knew the answer to the question. "They'll never trust you. We're stubborn." |

Sri narrowed her brows at the man. She didn't like the fact that he was still lying to her, that she was being told nothing but lies about the Cressida's mission here. He must have thought her an idiot, and that didn't exactly sit right with her either. As far as the crew never trusting her, that was most likely a frustrating but true fact. Cressida wasn't a place she really wanted to be, but if it proved to her father that she could survive the black, perhaps he would get her a better ship to stay with. A ship like the Bǐng Quān, a ship where she belonged. Then again, Sri wasn't sure she'd ever belong anywhere. She hadn't entirely belonged on Sihnon, what with the need to actually believe the garbage you were fed about love and kindness, and she sure as mǐ tián gòng didn't belong on the Cressida. "You must think I'm bái chī. However, I won't get you in trouble with the Captain for revealing whatever it is you people are actually doing here. And though I realize none of you will ever trust me because you are all mán zi rén chā, I would at least appreciate enough respect to not lie to me. If you can't tell me the truth, then just inform me of such and I'll let it go," she said, her voice icy. It was so irritating being treated like a child! "Your Captain doesn't want me on board, the crew wants nothing to do with me, and honestly I'm sick of being treated as if I have some sort of deadly contagion that you can catch if you even speak with me! I am beginning to think that my father put me on board your ship to try and teach me some sort of lesson, and while I appreciate his efforts I have almost had it entirely with your self-righteous little bunch of heroes!" The Companion took a deep breath and regained her composure. It wasn't often that she allowed herself to actually act out, so when it happened, it tended to be a bit nasty. She always got a grip on things quickly though, as she had been trained to do. "I apologize, Percy, but being entirely ostracized and... alone... for as long as I have been does not do well for one's emotional state. It was wrong of me to take out my frustration on you," she practically growled his name, knowing it to be a fake, but the rest of her apology at least seemed genuine. |
