Greenhorn

Bein' left behind made Delilah antsy. Really antsy. She'd always been inclined to want to be the center of attention. Wanting focus and the spotlight came naturally to her, and she was always doing something to get noticed. Of course, what with her up-bringin' bein' the way it was, she never got a lot of the limelight as a kid - but this didn't dampen her urge none, and she always made sure she was a part of things. Whether it was helping with dinner or a bit part in a ballet recital, she made sure she had something to do. But not today. The boat was near empty - everyone was off doin' somethin' worthwhile and she - the crew's greenhorn - was left on the Cressida with little to do a lot to worry about. The galley was spotless. Every metal locker shined, the floor was freshly scrubbed, and the dishes were done. She'd even gone so far as to do all the laundry that was sittin' in the hold waitin' for a good size pile. Now, however, she had absolutely nothin' left to do. At all. Whatsoever. Gǒushǐ! |

Rosalee had been watching. With the help of Dot of course. They had been spying on this woman for almost a full hour! She seemed to be just doing everyday cook lady activities, veeeeery smart of her, but Rosalee knew better! Daddy didn't know this lady, and she was new so she was suspect. And because all of the crew except for the mean doctor who punched daddy were gone that left it up to Rosie to protect the ship! Daddy had said she should do her best and listen to Doctor Drew and the Cook lady so Rosalee did listen. And she also made sure to watch. It was after the counters had been wiped down and Delilah was standing there looking lost that the child developed this irresistible urge to sneeze. At first she tried to duck totally behind the couch in the lounge she was using as cover, and then Dot came up as a sneeze muffler. It didn't work though, 3 feet and 2 inches of five year old girl were very violently wracked in a series of sneezes that sounded something like a dampened version of a screaming cat. She ended on the floor, exposed to the galley and half taken up by giggles. She remembered Delilah thought and quickly froze, wide blue eyes darting over to see if by some miracle the chef was actually deaf too! Or maybe turned off.... maybe she was a robot chef! |

Drew had been making his way through the ship - back to the cargo hold, then back up to the bridge, back and forth like he'd been doing since Gwen and the rest of the crew had headed off. It was difficult for Drew. He was a leader to a certain extent, but being in charge of a child and a new woman was something he was most definately not used to. Let alone having to deal with steering the gorram ship - he'd been given a crash course in piloting from Tom before he'd gone off, and was doing a right fine job for the moment. But then he'd heard a sound. Had an animal cropped up somewhere? He wouldn't put it past Rosalee to sneak a cat on board, but he discovered the source of the sound - sneezes, in fact - coming from the little blonde now lying on the floor of the lounge. Crossing his arms, Drew smirked. He turned to the young cook now standing in the center of the kitchen, "I'm thinkin' you had a spy. I'm hopin' you'll at least get on her good side." Drew had been caught by Rosalee in his moment of weakness, and had a long way to go to get on her good side - if he ever would. Gods knew he was trying. |
