She'd been told to play nicely with their new crew, no biting or scratching or dusting off the skeletons they thought were hidden in their closet. Fi didn't know how to play nice though, she'd never really seen the point so she'd never bothered to learn. Fi's fingers fell to caress the long knife that was holstered to her thigh, 1 of six that she had spread about her tiny person. She wasn't trying to be intimidating, that was why she had left off the guns that were usually there as well, having blades made her feel better. It was like a really sharp safety blanket. The blond hooked her data pad up to the galley view port and bypassed various programs that she herself had installed. She was going to behave, that's what she'd told the Cap'n. She was gong to be ... well she wasn't going to be nice exactly, but she wasn't going to go out of her way to bite anyone's heads off. What she needed to do now was get the new crew members patched into the system so she didn't get a warning alarm every time the facial recognition programs didn't know who was going somewhere she didn't want non-crew. She was pretty sure Tom, Jay and the Cap'n new why no one was ever able to get into her room without her showing up a moment later asking if she could help them with something. Anyone that wasn't her set off an alarm in her data pad that locked down 4 hidden in her room until she put in the release codes. Just to make it more fun the code for each safe was different. One of those safes contained only pictures of her and her family, but no one needed to know that and she liked knowing they were safe. The petite Communications and Supply officer pressed the button that opened communication throughout the entire ship. "All new crew members please make your way to the galley," She cut it off there knowing those that weren't new might make their way up to see what was going on as well. The Cap'n knew, but Fi tried to remember to run everything she was doing by the red-head before she actually did it. She reached her fingers up to poke a little at the fantastic black eye that was still on her face. Must not stab anyone, must not take her pain or general crankiness out on anyone, must not bite. Fi took a deep breath and started a quick systems diagnostic to see if anyone had tried to poke into anything they shouldn't in the short time they'd been there. She hoped not, because she had no doubt that the Captain would beleive her but still claim she'd been searching just to get rid of some of the violent tendencies she always had when injured. The blond cracked her neck and wondered if Tom would give her a back rub if she asked very nicely. He had magic fingers that she didn't mind taking advantage of whenever possible. |

Echo was lost. Again. This damn ship was a freaking maze. It was just a matter of getting used to things, and she knew that from experience. So when the Cressida's communication officer came on the comm system, Echo let her head hit the wall. Really? she had to find her way all the way back there? She was in the bowels of the ship right now; she could hear the steady humming of the engines. Maybe, when she finally found her way back, she ought to stick to the catwalk that connected the bridge, galley, and her quarters. That would be much simpler. It was a good five minutes later that Echo made her way into the galley, peeking in through a side door she had previously not known had existed. "Hello, Fi. Sorry for makin' ya wait for me," Echo said, making her way in, "I was tryin' to get to know the ship. You caught me in a right fine mess of a maze." |

As per usual, Cora's head snapped up like she'd just been shot and she reflected, for perhaps the thousandth time in the last couple of days, that a nice, musical tone might make the shock of announcements more pleasant. In the hospital they'd seeped into the background, went with the flow of things. Here they always seemed to be shattering a peaceful silence. When she wasn’t keeping an eye of Rora’s progress, she was down in her bunk, updating and sorting her own computer on medical matters. That’s where she was now, and in her mind she cursed Fi’s bad timing. It was almost as though she were doing it on purpose. “Alright, alright... in a moment.” She murmured, beginning the complicated process of noting down exactly what she’d done that day, when she’d stopped and how to continue. This took a little longer than expected and she jumped out of her seat, quickly slipping her white doctor’s coat back on (by no means regulation on the Cressida, but a force of habit that she was rather fond of) and ensured that the flawless bun she’d harshly dragged her hair into that morning had stayed more or less flawless. Who knew what Fi wanted... hopefully nothing medical. What Coralyn lacked in a sense of direction, she’d always been able to make up for with organisational skills, finding her way about the ship was no different. She’d done tiny little diagrams over her first few days on board, that mapped out anywhere and everywhere, to be whipped out of her pocket at a moment’s notice. Extreme? Maybe, but it certainly kept her very punctual. Brisk, little steps took her to the galley just a few minutes after the announcement, though she regretted her lack of real speed all the same. “I’m here, I’m here. Terribly sorry if I’m late. Hello, Echo, I do hope you're finding your way about.” She said quietly, giving the new crew member one of those nervous half-smiles that seemed to pretty much sum Cora up. It was quite nice not being the ‘new girl’ anymore. “What’s the matter Fi? No problem, I hope?” she continued curiously. |

Fi raised an eyebrow at their new co-pilot. She hadn't decided yet if she liked the woman or not, someone that pretty spending so much time with Tom ... not that she was jealous. At least not yet. She trusted Tom to keep his parts of the stripper, but she didn't trust the stripper to keep her paws off Tom. "Maze? Don't tell me you were lost, the ship isn't that big." She gave the woman a mocking look, and tilted her head to the side, "And we're trusting you to get us from one planet to another?" She made a sound of consternation and turned back to the screen before her. “I’m here, I’m here. Terribly sorry if I’m late. Hello, Echo, I do hope you're finding your way about.” Fi snorted indelicately when the little doctor showed up in the galley. "No, she's getting lost. Maybe you should share some of your maps with her." She turned away from the screen, giving Echo a wide eyed inquisitive look. "You do know how to read a map, right?" The petite blond turned lazily back to the screen, her fingers flying as she zipped through various security protocols to get to where she needed to be. “What’s the matter Fi? No problem, I hope?” Fi shrugged a bit in response to the brunette that had been getting more attention from Jay that Fi thought she should. Not that she controlled his social life or anything, but she was Rora's friend as well as Jay's and the little doc wasn't close to being a friend. Still, she wasn't supposed to be biting (though Echo hadn't been there when Cap'n said to leave them alone so she wasn't included.) "No problem, just have to update security again. It's easier to do it all at once rather than run around and get through all the firewalls however many times I have to. Alright, whoever is first, stand here," She pointed to a line on the floor that she'd made with tape earlier. As soon as they stood there she'd input the commands to do a quick full body scan. She also had a scan pad to get their hand/finger prints. That way she could clear them of charges if they were under time constraints. All in a days work, at least for her. |

"No, she's getting lost. Maybe you should share some of your maps with her." “Yes. And then perhaps I can lend you my book on etiquette and common courtesy.” She retorted, as calmly as she could. Coralyn could withstand vast amounts of griping and bullying, half the time without even realising that she was being victimised. But though she suspected their new pilot was more than capable of defending herself, it still wasn’t fair. Fi was probably just jealous at having another beauty on board, Echo certainly was captivating, in a very exotic way. The sort of looks that were almost alien on Londinum. Nodding once at Fi’s instruction she stepped forward and onto the line, hoping that the process would be quick. She was feeling so very tired, and extremely irritable, worrying about Rora, Jay... Rora AND Jay, in fact. Not to mention the constant thought in the back of her mind; what Fi might know about her past, and how much she was prepared to share. They'd not mentioned Mikhail since her first day, she just wished it would carry on that way. |

“Yes. And then perhaps I can lend you my book on etiquette and common courtesy.” Fi smiled, her face bent into a mask of surprised gratification. "Would you? That would be great. I've got a table with a rickety leg," The smile instantly disappeared as she turned and hit the button to start the process. A green flash over the woman's eyes, a green scan that traveled from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet. "And turn around," Fi didn't wait, she just grabbed the woman's arm and twisted her about so the scan could get her back. Cora had that tight lipped, overly calm face on. The one that told her that she was irritated, likely with Fi and more like to be thinking all sorts of mean and rude thoughts about the smaller blond. "And one hand at a time please," Fi held out the scanning pad and raised an eyebrow, the rest of her face mildly inquisitive. She wasn't going to force her to do this one. After all, she could find her prints elsewhere if she really wanted to, the little doc was all over the Core information networks. It would be easier to scan, but it might be more fun to sic the Cap'n on her if she was uncooperative. It would definitely be a balm to the place inside the was still hurting over Mik's death. They hadn't had words yet, but it was going to happen. |

She made a sound of consternation and turned back to the screen before her. Echo wrinkled her nose. That was a good point. "On ships I kind of prefer to stumble my way around. It improves your...problem-solving skills." She gave Fi a roguish grin. "My navigation skills are better applied in the 'verse. Or, I hope so..." She put a finger to her chin thoughtfully, sarcasm tipping her words, "I mighta picked the wrong career." She cast Fi a grin. Cora entered and Echo felt the tenion rise. She's had a feeling she didn't want to get between them. But now she was. "You do know how to read a map, right?" Echo nodded simply, not really up to saying much. She didn't know either of them, and getting between whatever fight they were having was probably not the best decision. "No problem, just have to update security again. It's easier to do it all at once rather than run around and get through all the firewalls however many times I have to. Alright, whoever is first, stand here," Echo moved to follow instrctions, but before she got the chance to get there, Cora was already in place. With a sigh, Echo fell into a chair, letting her legs hang over the arm. |

"And turn around," Cora allowed herself to be manhandled like a piece of machinery with as much grace as she could muster. Echo seemed to have a certain complacency, a lightness of touch that reflected the petite blonde's barbed comments beautifully. Sad;y it was something that couldn't be taught. "And one hand at a time please," She stared down at the scanning pad as though it were about to bite her. “Oh, Fi, is that really necessary?” she sighed. She was, whether people knew it or not, the registered medic of an Independent ship. And the very idea that her fingerprints would be readily available to whoever might stroll on the Cressie, be it her very own Captain or (perish the thought!) an Alliance guard, made her nervous. Of course a lot of things made her nervous, so she wasn’t going to put up too much of a fight on this one. "I mean.. are these for your eyes only? Strictly security?" She added, warily. |

"Oh, Coralyn." Echo let out a light laugh. "I know we're both new, however, you are, like, the squeakiest clean of clean I've ever met. Ever." She reached into her pocket, unwrapping a chunk of cheese. "How bad could it be?" |

Fi raised an eyebrow at Cora's tone. She bit her tongue rather than replying with the response, "no, I just thought it would be fun to waist everyone's time." Her jaw clenched as she stared straight at the taller brunette with obvious irritation. She'd told the Cap'n she wouldn't bite .... no biting ... no biting. "I mean.. are these for your eyes only? Strictly security?" She let out the breath she hadn't realized she was holding out slowly through her nose and offered a brittle smile. She was distracted from biting through her own tongue by the new pilot that she hadn't done more than raise an eyebrow at so far. "I know we're both new, however, you are, like, the squeakiest clean of clean I've ever met. Ever. How bad could it be?" Cora might be the little doc and more than a little annoying, but she'd patched Fi up and she'd helped save Rora's life. Some upstart little pilot from Beaumonde wasn't going to be allowed to merely insult someone on her crew. "New? You've been here all of 12 hours. You're an infant and you don't actually know any of us. Hell, naive as you are I can't figure out why the hell the Cap'n even hired you other than we're desperate and you're pathetic enough that you don't pose a threat," Her tone was as derisive as the look on her face as she turned her back on the bleached blond to face the little Doc, deciding it was ask questions about the things you worry about. "They're for my eyes and the Captains. Strictly security and possibly interference. You're prints are already in the Core's system and if they get too uppity with us that can change. Palms please, one at a time," She held the pad out again, her face a calm mask. She wouldn't force the little doc to do the prints in front of stripper-girl. No matter their problems she wasn't going to simply let an outsider start anything, and in the last week she'd been on the ship Fi had decided she was definitely her crew. Practically family, and even if you attacked your family it didn't mean anyone else could. Then just because she was feeling irritated still she called over her shoulder in a bland voice, "And after I get your prints I can show you how bad it can be if your interested," Edited by Seraphina Grant, Feb 27 2011, 03:38 AM.

"How bad could it be?" Coralyn opened her mouth to half-stutter a polite response, after all Echo surely meant no harm. Cora knew little of her history, but a woman from a large family in Beaumonde, a pilot no less, had to surely be respectable, even if she was randomly eating cheese! Unfortunately Fi got there first, with a tirade that made a blush creep from Cora’s neck all the way to the top of her forehead. It wasn’t that their Supply Officer was being catty, the young doctor had grown used to that. It was that Fi was actuallydefending her, not necessarily liking her, but adhering to her strong principles anyway. And though she was deeply embarrassed, Cora had to respect that. “Fi, please, there’s really no need...” she began to mumble quietly, not really knowing what else to add. “...palms please, one at a time," “Yes, yes, of course.” Coralyn obediently shot her hands out like they’d been on fire, placing them on the pad. She wanted to get this over with and creep back to her bunk to hide for a little while. |

Echo patiently listened to Fi's rant, tilting her head, slightly amused. "So, apparently, Doctor Cardew has a history. A history you already know about. And because I, the noob, decided to get a little jokey, you got defensive." Echo shrugged. "Despite the fact that I am an infant- you know, actually, the only ones I need to prove myself to, where flying is concerned, are the Captain, and Tom." She sighed, shaking her head at the blonde. "You can snark and snipe and be bitter at me all you want. I'm no stranger to hazing." Echo didn't mean any of it to sound cruel in any way, but the little blonde sounded as if she were touchy, so Echo took a breath, preparing herself for whatever attack was coming next. |

Fi smiled, her expression not at all friendly as she watched the blond in front of her. The pompous attitude wasn't going to put her in good standing with the crew. Especially not the littlest blond aboard. "Everyone on this boat has a history. You're right about not needing to prove yourself to me. What you're wrong about is the hazing, because that's not what I'm doing," If the woman wanted to try and butt heads, she'd lose. Fi could make living on the Cressi mighty hard for the new co-pilot. "As for bitter ... I don't know you and you don't know me. If you last I'm sure you'll come to realize that I'm like this with everyone. You aren't special," And Fi meant that last part in ever sense of the word as she raked her eyes over the other woman's body. Beautiful women were a dime a dozen, decent pilots were almost as cheap, though rarer out in the Rim. The Supply and Communication Officer aboard the Cressida was also the interim Security person and she took all of her jobs seriously. She could get anything, for anyone, and she didn't mind crossing the proverbial line to do so. The only person that Fi considered a true friend was Rora. She didn't need anyone else, certainly not some upstart pilot without the smarts to pay attention to what she was working for or to get off a third world. |

"I wasn't saying I was." Echo kept eye contact with her steadily. If Fi thought she was going to back down, she had another thing coming. Echo didn't want to make enemies, but she wasn't going to stand there and be insulted. She turned to the young doctor, nodding. "I apoologize if what I said came off as insulting. Please know that I meant nothing by it." |

Fi raised an amused eyebrow at the newest blond. "Your attitude is arrogant and your words are insincere at best. I get that you're a pilot and pilots tend to be cocky, but it's usually not good to play top bitch your first day on the job. Especially not when so many other people aboard are female. Including the captain," She cocked an eyebrow and tapped out a few commands, tilting the pad so that Echo couldn't see what she was doing. She wasn't doing anything bed, she just didn't want the other woman seeing anything. Fi had decided not to trust her. Little Doc, if she hadn't meant anything by it she wouldn't have said it. First rule of roving the Black," The tiny blond drawled the words slowly, not even glancing at Echo. She might not like Coralyn all that much, but she did trust her. That left the new co-pilot up shit creek without the proverbial paddle. She never did like people that took automatic offense at other peoples comments. Nor did she like people that insulted others as a joke. Edited by Seraphina Grant, Nov 17 2009, 09:24 PM.

"You really don't know much about people, do you?" Echo tilted her head back, looking at the ceiling. "I'm not looking for a fight or enemy. Probably got both by being myself, but that's your decision more than it is mine. I'd rather not have it that way." Echo smirked. "Pilots have to be cocky. If you act all nonchalant and unsure, quiet-like, you won't get a job." |

Fi smirked back, tilting her head to the side a little as she looked at the other woman. "Yeah, pilots have to be cocky, what they don't have to be is condescending." She finished imputing all of Coralyn Cardew's information through the security system so she wouldn't get alerts every time the woman went into an area off limits to non-crew or certain-crew areas. Fi's room was censored against everyone, as was Gwen's, though Fi had added the Docs information into that one a long time ago. People wondered why she had all the information. Fi turned to face Echo and made sure that her face was the same calm as her voice, "And speaking of not knowing people I'm not looking for a new best friend. I'm not the buddy buddy type, and I'm treating you like every other would-be rock star that comes on my boat. Your teasing and instant psychoanlysis of my personality are both unsolicited and unappreciated. The moment you decided I didn't like you you started trying to undermine my self esteem, tried to get me to back down to prove something. I'm not sure whether you need to prove it to yourself, me, or the little doc, but either way I'm starting to think you're not only irritating, but pathetic," She smiled blandly at the woman and decided that definitely did not like or trust her. |

"Look at the pot calling the kettle black. You 'psychoanalyze' the minute you spot someone and decide whether or not they're trustworthy by the first five words they say to you. I piss you off because I don't back down. Just like you." Echo narrowed her eyes. "I'm sorry for not being what you expected, but I'm not going anywhere. Be my friend, don't; I could care less." Echo stood, leaning against the table, watching the shorter blonde's frustration mount, and not enjoying it in the slightest. It bugged her, this girl's blatant need to shove people away. Even people she didn't know, she was judging by their willingness to back down. "I had no intention of sounding, or being, condescending, and I've apologized for it. I am sorry that it came off wrong." |

Fi laughed out loud. "It would sound more intelligent if you weren't simply parroting my words. I don't psychoanalyze, I just bite. Hard. I appreciate people that don't back down, I don't appreciate people that take umbrage at someone for protecting a crew mate. Did you think that maybe you should have just apologized to Coralyn and I would have backed off?" She was honestly amused with the other woman. Fi was well aware of all her problems, and psychoanalyzing wasn't one of them. If she wanted that she'd hack former doctors reports, every school in the core had their students checked. The long list of all Fi's problems included aggression, disdain, lack of trust, and various other problem pieces. Someone new on the ship didn't need to start treating everyone like old friends it meant she had ulterior motives. Ulterior motives generally meant someone on the ship was in danger. Danger meant bad and Fi didn't like bad. Therefor her paranoia was justified and she had nothing to be sorry for. Not that she would be if Echo could read her thoughts, and though the girl was transporting Readers, she wasn't one herself. |

"Oh, please - I repeated one lengthy word you picked. I hardly think that counts. Besides, I doubt you'll ever back off." Echo rocked back on her heels. "I'd say that I enjoy the verbal banter, but it might come off wrong." maybe we should give vixx a bit to respond, LoL |
