Pocket Sized Fatalities

Fi made her way, very slowly, to her bunk and dropped her holsters and boots onto the floor. She stared around at all the various shelves and hiding places she'd managed to set up before she scrounged up 2 bottles of alcohol. Normally she wouldn't be one to encourage mixing Tequila and Rum, but they were the first two she grabbed and she figured she wasn't the only one that needed a drink. Her stomach growled she remembered that she wasn't supposed to be drinking on an empty stomach. One of the unwritten rules of the Galley was that you were supposed to be dressed, but she couldn't bring herself to put on clean clothes over her grimy self. Her hair was matted and she'd put it into to loose braids that hung over her shoulders, the back of her head stitched up and matted with dried blood, but the little doc had done it without shaving any of her hair. She was wearing her sports bra and her ribs were bandaged so tightly it was actually hard to breathe. The skin of her toned abdomen was showing, but it was covered in dried blood and a rather nasty looking bruise. The little blond slipped her feet into a pair of slippers and then she snagged a hoodie. It took her a minute to get it on, but she didn't bother zipping it. Fi sneezed and frowned at the sudden burst of pain in her ribs and her head, but sucked it up. Then she looked in the mirror. She was pale, her cheeks looked hollow, she had dark bags under her eyes and the cut on her hairline had 5 ugly black stitches and was surrounded by an uglier purple bruise. She glared at it, never look in a mirror when you know you look like hell. She briefly contemplated simply breaking the mirror, but then thought better of it. She slipped her thigh holster back on and putting her long hunters knife into it and then adding a knife into each pocket. Alliance soldiers were on her ship, she wasn't going unarmed. That being dealt with she decided to make her slow way up to the Galley and set the booze on the counter before pulling out a shot glass and opening the rum (her personal favorite) and pouring herself a shot. She took it quick and poured another, drinking that one as well before pulling out some of Martha's chicken and cutting it into strips to toss into a pan before she started cutting up vegetables to add to the stir fry. |

Jay had the same idea, and was already sitting at the galley table, working his way through his Saki reserve, when Fi hobbled in. The room was relatively dark, and he was not sure if Fi had seen him or not. He pushed out a chair for her. "Hey there kid. You look like hell. Take a seat." He opened the bottle of Whiskey, aged Ariel reserve, poured a shot and pushed it over towards her. |

Fi spared Jay a glance as she finished making her stir fry, dumping some into a bowl and leaving the rest to stay warm in the pan in case someone else was hungry. The little blond slipped a bottle under each arm and grabbed her bowl before hobbling over to the man that she considered one of the closest things to family. She set down everything on the table and took a bite of food before she swallowed the whiskey and leaned back. "Thanks, this is making me at least feel less like hell," She said drily. It was probably best if the little doc didn't show up, but then it didn't really matter did it? She had never planned on going back for the painkillers, had actually managed to skip over answering her request completely. She planned to drink the pain away tonight, and on the plus public drinking usually kept her awake for a while so she was good for the concussion watch to. |

"Yeah well......whatever helps." Jay tossed back his own shot and poured another. He looked over at the petite blonde. The boat was family, but Fi maybe more so. They shared a special bond that only those that had served together, had seen combat together, could ever know. It was why, he figured, that they held each other to a somewhat higher standard than the rest of the crew. Under normal circumstances, for instance, this wouldn't be happening. Getting drunk was frowned upon by Gwen, especially on her boat, defiantly in the Galley, but right now Jay reckoned that neither of them cared much. He for sure didn't. He contemplated the glass for a moment before tossing it back, than studied it, not looking up . "Rora gonna be OK?" |

Fi snorted and shook her head, only to wince at the dull thudding that started up again. "Gave her some thoughts to chew on, hopefully she'll grow a pair sometime soon," Fi shrugged and poured them both another shot. "Self defense and they still try to arrest me," Fi laughed as she downed the alcohol. |

Jay laughed. It was a sarcastic, somewhat gruff "HA" which he finished by throwing back the offered shot. "Doubt it. Rora is....well, Rora is Rora. She's dead set convinced that I want Coralyn. Cant see past her own stubbornness." He paid her forward by pushing a fresh whiskey shot over. "Thinkin' that now might be a good time to take that leave I've been talking about. Lease is almost up on the ranch. Got a new company comin' in to take over operations, new lease. Should be there for the turn-over this time." He threw back the shot and than pushed the glass away, opting instead to take a slug right from the bottle. It did, after all, save time. One of Jay's duties on the boat included finding ways to make things more efficient.....here was a prime example of something made more efficient. He handed the bottle to Fi. "Things gettin' mite too complicated round here." |

Fi sighed tiredly and took the bottle from Jay's outstretched hand. "Yeah," She agreed, taking a long pull and passing the bottle back across. She had never been much for the kind of drama a lot of girls she'd met got up to. Maybe it was because her teens had been spent working as a munitions runner before fighting with the 5th Company for freedom. Her formative years were spent learning to shoot and hack and throw a knife with power and precision. "but at least it aint boring," She cheered and snagged the tequila, taking a pull from it with a grin as she gave the salute that had been often used by the 5th during the war. |

"Boring....right." He smiled a bit when he heard Fi say that. Lt. O'shara had taught her that.....course he were'nt around now, thanks to an Alliance artillery round, but Jay was sure that he would have appreciated it. "Think thats why I am gonna take a leave Fi. Gotta get some perspective back. Boat's stifling me feels like. Cant breath here no more." |

Fi snagged the bottle and took a large drink before setting it down on the table and staring at him evenly. "Gonna go play with your cows and ponies?" She asked, a tiny smirk on her face. In truth she'd seen pictures of his land and thought it was mighty pretty, but she was made for the black. Her whole life she'd never felt as much at peace as she had trapped inside a metal hull staring out at an endless expanse of stars. Jay'd kept saying it was because she'd only ever been in cities, but she wasn't so sure. |

Jay snorted and took another pull on the bottle. "Could be said." He paused and pulled an old fashioned still capture out of his back pocket, and passed it over to Fi. "You're welcome tah drop by if you want." He let her look at it for a few before taking it back, looking down at it. He let out a short laugh. "You know....its funny. I was gonna tell Rora about this place.....Would've been a nice place to retire, yah know..." He trailed off, tossed the capture on the table and took another drink. Fi smiled as she looked at the still; cows trees and grass. She handed it back and tilted her head to the side. "Might be an interesting diversion," She agreed to the visit. She'd probably enjoy it. Then her smile turned lightly into a frown. She felt for both her friends, but neither of them were understanding the others feelings. "She's too young to retire just yet, but she'd probably of loved this. It's mighty shiny Jay," She took a pull of the alcohol and shrugged a little before adding teasingly, "If you're into that kind of thing," |

Jay caught Fi's sly look. She enjoyed goading him now almost as much as she had back in the day. It was all in good fun though, and both of them knew it. It was one of her many.....gifts. He picked up the capture again, speaking to Fi as he kept his eyes on the image. "Its real pretty this time of year Fi, Silverhold is. The trees will be changin' soon. Would ride up to the boundary, right yonder at the base of the mountains and when you looked back at the land...t'was something else Fi....." He set the capture down again. "I was ready to marry the girl ....can you believe that....." Edited by Jay Andhek, Oct 9 2009, 12:27 PM.

Fi sighed a little and took another drink. "Sounds nice Jay," She agreed. It did, though too many trees made her crave buildings after a while. Still, that much clear land the view of the night sky was like to be almost as pretty as the view from the pilots chair. She'd have to see if she could drag Tom along. "Rora grew up having the idea of marriage forced into her brain as bad. Very very bad and disrespectful and various other negative words that my brain aint coming up with at the moment," She finished her stir fry and took hold of the alcohol again. "She loves you and you love her, don't understand why everything needs to be all woe is me 'n' shit," She shrugged again. After all Tom and herself got along mighty well with whatever kind of thing was going on between them. |

Fi snorted in amused irritation. "Both of you are doing it," She informed him dryly. 'Course my girls bein' a bit more pig headed than usual seein's how she wont talk about it or see any kind o' reason," She took another pull of the alcohol and shoved the bottle toward him. |

"Aint that the truth." He sighed and accepted the bottle. Taking a longish pull, he pulled a small box out of his pocket and tossed it to Fi. "Take a look at that shiny, don't rightly know what to do with it now." He actually didn't even know why he was carrying it around still. When Rora has turned him down, he had put it in his safe, vowing not to touch it again. Something had made him remove it a few hours later, it had been in his pocket ever since. Couldn't rightly explain why, now that he thought about it..... |

Fi popped open the velvet box and raised her eyebrows as she let out a long whistle. "Shiny is certainly the right word," She agreed, setting the box in the middle of the table, still open. "Want me to hawk it?" She offered, trying to figure out what she could get for a sparkle like that. |

He snatched the box back from her, "Absolutely not!" The ring was all that he really had left from his relationship with Rora, even if she didn't want it. Maybe someday......naw. He closed the box and put it back in his pocket, taking another swig of the booze. "What am I doing here Fi. Shamelessly flirting with Coralyn while Rora was fightin' for her life..." |

"Don't be a gorram fool," Fi threw her fork, pegging the other man in the chest before she picked up the booze and poured them each a shot. "You didn't know we was in a fight. Hells, we didn't know we'd be in a fight. As for you flirtin' who the hell cares? Flirtin' is harmless for the most part and while I could wish you had more taste than to do it with That Creature," Her face took on a darkly dangerous cast as she thought about the woman for a moment, "It's not like you did it to be malicious. So stop soundin' off like a woman and have another damn shot," She downed her own and slammed it back on the table.

Jay smiled at her, this was why he kept her around...or was it her keeping him around. Wasn't rightly sure at this point. He took the shot, throwing back the liquid with a practiced motion and slamming the glass back onto the tabletop upside down. "Speak for ur'self Fi" he grinned. |
