REAL WORLD: The 12th Cavalry is not my creation, I have to offer that information right up front. This unit was created by the fine folks over at QMx, and I have merely invented a persona within their creation. In the near future the 12th and the 501st will be the basis of a new costuming group to encompass all manner of "Verse" costumes, focusing heavily though, on what we have affectionately nicknamed "dirty" Browncoats. There will be more information available when we get closer to our public launch date (aimed for the end of the year/early 2010.) 12th INDEPENDENT CAVALRY - 5th COMPANY ![]() 12th Independent Cavalry, 5th Company, Guidon. Was presumed lost at the Battle of Serenity Valley, but was discovered and restored during construction of the Serenity Valley War Memorial. This historical artifact now resides in the Unification War Museum on Osiris - - - - - What follows is a brief time-line of Jay Andhek and his career in the 12th Independent Cavalry, 5th Company. I am fairly confident that the dates are correct after cross-referencing some of your threads and the official Firefly time-line. ------ April 19th 2486 Born on Ariel to poor parents as Aaron Kimble 2502 Enrolled in the Ariel Military Academy after excelling on the entrance exam, earns a full scholarship. This brings mixed feeling from his parents as the Alliance had never done anything for the poor of Ariel, but this choice would offer their son a better life. They approve his appointment. 2506 Having spent several years questioning the Alliance’s policies and heavy handed handling of the “rebels” on the Rim, Jay runs away from the Academy, turning his back on the Alliance weeks away from graduation after witnessing the crew of an "Independent gunship" be publicly executed for treason. A childhood friend was a member of her crew, which also contributed to his decision 2507 Enters basic training with the Independent forces under the assumed name of Jay Andhek. He excels in recon and tactics - assigned to the newly formed 12th Cavalry as a Private 1st Class May 2508 Battle of Three Hills, 5th Company plays a pivotal role in this battle, distinguishing themselves for their actions on the Independent's left flank. July 2508 Routed at the disaster that was Greenleaf, the 12th Cavalry escapes at almost half strength to Hera with the remains of the Independent Army. Aug 2508-Nov 2509 Regroup and refit on Hera Records show that the 12th was present at Whitefall from May 2510 to Nov 2510 but little is known of their action there Dec2509/Jan 2510 12th Cavalry, along with 3 other brigades attempts to hold Saint Albans, all units withdrawn by Jan 2510 after suffering heavy causalities. Jay is promoted to Corporal. Dec 2510 12th Cavalry participates in the winter campaign on New Kasmir. Jan 2511 Present at the Siege of Du Khang - The 12th takes massive causalities, loosing just over 4 of the 6 Companies that were committed to the battle. 5th Company only looses 6 men out of the 80 they started with, mostly due to the leadership of Lt O'Shara and Corporal Andhek. Jay is promoted to Sgt. Feb 2511 Stationed on Hera - Orchestrates and participates in skirmish actions and raids, harassing Alliance advance patrols and supply depots. All this eventually culminates in the Battle for Serenity Valley in late March-May of 2511. The12th Cavalry is decimated, loosing almost 85% of her operational strength. 5th Company (Jays all but command at this point following the death of Lt. O'Shara) is accidentally left behind after the recall order and the remaining 20 men under Jay's command hold Serenity View Township for 2 weeks before being overrun. Choosing the lives of his men over the "glory" of death, Jay surrenders. At this point he is outnumbered nearly 12 to 1 and surrounded. Part of the tale can be found here. Remaining men under his command vote to brevet their Sgt to the rank of Lieutenant, as, in their words, "he had earned it, and it wasn't proper for the 12th to surrender to the Feds without an Officer." June 2511 Released from an Alliance holding facility as a “Non-trialed Browncoat” after the official end of hostilities. The Alliance declares victory in the so named "Unification War." |
