Fi snagged a tomato and started eating it as most would an apple, she loved the things and ignored people's comments about them as she chomped down. She gave the younger doctor and mocking smile and turned her attention over to Tom. "He seems to like the galley a lot more since Miss LaRoux joined us," Her tone was carefully blank but her eyes were frigid with an emotion she didn't want to admit was jealousy. Fi was short, scrawny, never did her hair, and always dressed in jeans and a vest. She was covered in knives and guns at all times and was sarcastic as all hell. Martha was tall, curvy, gorgeous, well made up and nicely dressed all the gorram time. It was enough to make anyone feel self conscious. Fi leaned her head on Rora's shoulder and glanced down the line at Drew, the only male on the bench. "How's it feel to know your equipment is exemplary?" She blinked her big blue eyes innocently. She couldn't help herself, the comment was out there and she simply couldn't leave it alone. Not even for the sake of their new, rather naive, little doctor. |

A shudder of anticipation ran through Raynor as the Cressida left the ground. He hadn't been on a ship in a while, at least not for any hugely extensive period of time. He had been on a few ships for (relatively) quick transport flights, but this was different. He was back out in the black, like when he was younger. He smiled and entered the galley, saying a quick "Hey, all," just as someone he didn't know was talking about the equipment in the infirmary. Either he'd missed a memo or the new face was the new doctor. He assumed the latter: he'd heard talk about her after he'd boarded the ship to leave Persephone, but hadn't met her yet. When he took his seat, it was after gathering a plateful of food. Not too much, because it had to go - how many of them were there now, thirteen? - thirteen ways, but it was still a fair amount of food. He was hungry. Fi was speaking. "How's it feel to know your equipment is exemplary?" Rayne casually turned his head away from the doctor so she couldn't see his face, just as he silently chuckled in that way that one did when they knew they shouldn't laugh. He didn't want to laugh at the doctor - he didn't even know her yet - but he couldn't help but smirk at Fi's comment, and at how innocently she'd delivered it. Jay almost snarfed his coffee when Fi spoke up with her comment. He looked up to see her leaning into the table, theatrically exaggerating the action to make it more comical. He big eyes were fixed on Drew and Gwen and a rather un-Fi-like expression of innocence was plastered on her face. She blinked a few times for effect. It was all Jay could do to keep from laughing out loud. He chimed in himself. "Yeah Drew.....tell all us folk. Seems the lady Doctor has been busy....examinin' equipment n' such. I miss all the fun." He took another mouthful of the delicious stir fry that Martha had thrown together, fresh vegetables and all, and waited for Drew to respond to this blatantly obvious attempt to lighten the general mood, a smirk on his own face as he watched for Coralyn's reaction out of the corner of his eye. This teasing and snarky-ness was all part of making her part of the crew. He hoped that she didnt take it the wrong way. It was, afterall, all in good fun. |

Corlayn’s innocent, eager comment seemed to have caused something of a stir, as Miss Grant asked Doctor Lancaster if he was proud of his medical attributes. No doubt he would be, but the way everyone began to smirk was both confusing and slightly irritating. The First Mate chimed in, sounding equally insinuating. Cora did so hate it when she’d missed something, however trivial. She blinked twice and her brow furrowed a little as she tried to subtly think this one out, while continuing to stare down at the table. Was there some kind of crew in-joke? Was Doctor Lancaster’s equipment in some way sub-standard and they hadn’t told her about it? |

Fi turned her sly eyes back to the young woman in question. The girl was Fi's age, but the look of confusion on her face just went further to cement her as 'young' in Fi's mind. The blond turned her dark eyes to Tom and quirked a single eyebrow, her lips twitching into a more familiar smirk. The smirk was then turned toward the brunette doctor. "I'm sure he appreciates your honest ... assessment," Fi told her, her voice thick with sweet sarcasm. The tiny blond finished off her tomato and offered the woman a bright sarcastic smile. Baby girl didn't really know Fi yet, but the little blond wasn't going to give her even an inch. It was going to be fun. |

What knife Gwen had been using to slice in to her apple was suddenly stabbed in to the wooden table top as she carefully studied the chunk she had just cut out. It was with enough force to shake most of the plates on the tabletop and get their attentions. "Guăn nĭ zìjĭ de shì," the Captain spoke smoothly. While she appreciated the humor in what they were discussing, picking on the new people like this was pushing it just a tad. Green eyes flickered toward Fi giving her one warning look before she looked back toward Jay with the same. "Y'all better be eating cause I got words to say before we depart for the evening." The smile that managed to creep across Gwen's face was forced as she reached for the knife giving it one sharp tug out of the wood. "And update everyone on our schedule." |

Jay had known the Cap'n for too long, and she was kidding. She was trying to scare the new girl and the two youngin's. He couldn't let that fly. He picked up a carrot stick from the stir fry and deftly tossed it at her, raising his hands in victory as the flying vegetable impacted lightly on Gwen's forehead. "YES!!!!!" He chuckled as he sat back down after his victory outburst. "Stop scaring the youngin's Gwen." |

Here, Jay, have a piece of apple flicked back toward you. Gwen watched as it smacked her first mate right on his nose before she went back to cutting in to her dinner. "I'll stop scaring them when you two clean up th' dinner conversation. We got a kid on the boat again. Don't need him pickin' up any of y'alls bad habits." There was a time and place for stuff like this and, right now, with Jean not in the room, she was fine with it. The last kid they had on the ship she had kept as best she could from overhearing things. It was going to be the same with Jean. "We'll be on Verbena in a few hours. Got two stops to make there before we head back in toward the Core." From there she didn't know, but whatever it was gonna be, wasn't going to be quite good. |

Tom's eyes narrowed slightly at Fi's comment about him spending time in the galley now that Martha was there. He didn't respond to it like he wanted to because it was passed over. He wasn't going to point anything out now, besides he really did not want to bring up feelings. He wasn't the touchy feely sort and to explain to Fi that he might be feeling something towards her (that is Fi) would be quite a feat and one he wasn't going to do. He was glad the conversation drifted towards the new doctor and when Fi quirked an eyebrow at him, his own lips curled into a smirk. This new girl seemed naive and Tom wasn't sure how that would play out on the ship. He started to shovel his own food in his mouth as he watched Jay and Gwen fling food at each other. "Yeah and how long are we gonna be there?" Tom asked speaking with his mouth full. He wanted to make sure he knew how long so he could plan his time accordingly... although those plans never seemed to be kept. |

Sidda had been away from the ship for most of their stay on Persephone. As a Companion, there was much work to be had and many social gatherings to attend. She had every reason to have checked back every so often with them which she had done, but not as much as she felt she should. When the ship had taken off Sidda had exited the shuttle she was renting from the Captain making her way to the galley and the others that were gathering. Needless to say the young woman was quite surprised by the many new faces that were all ready there. "Verbena?" came her sing-song voice from the hatchway leading toward the upper levels of the cargo hold. "An interesting choices of places to seek work at. I doubt there will be time to contact some of my clients while we are there?" |

When Gwen looked up she blinked. Most everyone in the galley was staring at her in some form or fashion waiting on an answer. All she could do was smirk and go back to eating her apple. "After dinner." The resounding groans and looks just made the red head chuckle before she motioned toward one of the chairs at the table. "Fine, fine. We'll only be there for maybe half a day due to some work. We have supplies to pick up and drop off in both locations I got on my list. So." With a shrug of her shoulders she carefully sliced another bit of apple off. "Don't go making any long term plans." |

"I don't rightly consider any of my habits to be bad, merely informative or something like," Fi informed her captain, completely ignoring the warning look as common place. She snagged the carrot Gwen hadn't bothered eating and took a large crunchy bite out of it with a grin. Those that knew her were well aware of her habits and how informative (or uninformative as the case may be) she could actually be. "Get me a list of what crap you didn't get in port and I'll see to getting it all for you," She had a new stash in her room of all the goods she'd picked up for sale and trade among the crew. It helped hide the information gathering that she had a tendency to do. It wasn't just her fingers in the civil war that was brewing, it was her both her damn arms and that was just how she liked it. The petite blond felt her eyes fall back on their pilot and thought about making a few suggestive remarks, but decided to lock them behind her teeth at the moment. "I'll come up to the bridge for your list after I finish a few things Tom," She didn't want it spread about that she and Tom were kind of in a quasi-relationship that almost seemed like it was a race to see who would run away first. |

Though somewhat naive, by her own admission Coralyn was not a complete social moron. And though as ever, the benefit of the doubt would be given she could not help but feel that her suspicion from earlier was confirmed; Miss Grant was probably quite vile. Doubtless the joke was at her expense and, like most times she felt intimidated, all she could do was just return a cool gaze. Thankfully the Captain interrupted with a gesture with her knife that made Cora jump nearly a foot out of her seat. The weapon may as well have been flying at her throat. Still, just as she was reflecting on how nice a change of subject would be, a carrot hit the Captain in the face. Yes, a carrot. And the punishment for this insubordination? A bit of apple. Before she could stop herself, Cora glanced around just to double check that she had in fact gotten on the right ship. Nothing in the job description had specified food fights. If her curtain of dark hair hadn’t been so severely tied up, she’d have attempted to hide behind it. Finally some useful information was exchanged and Coralyn felt a glimmer of excitement about their travels. After staying stagnant for so long, Verbena could not come too soon. This glimmer was only slightly quashed by the tall, handsome man who she guessed to be their pilot. For some reason Cora could be up to her elbows in entrails without a thought, but still be just a little nauseated by someone speaking with their mouth full... |

"So, Coralyn," Rora started, sensing the girl needed a little bit of quasi-normal conversation - hard to come by on this ship, but Rora could try. "Where is it in the 'verse you grew up at?" Rora smiled at Fi, and cast a small glance to Sidda. Jay knew. Sidda and now Martha knew. Fi had always known - a) Rora couldn't keep a secret from her, and b) they'd grown too close for Rora to eliminate that detail from her existance when around Fi. Consequentially, Fi and her shopped together, and Fi kept her secret. However, she needed to tell the rest of the crew, but she was still so unsure of how to do it. It had been months since they'd had that conversation, and Jay was not feeling so warmly toward her as he had been. Rora didn't know how to deal with any of that yet, and she was quite sure she had no desire to. She took a small bite as she waited for Coralyn to respond. Fi sat up straighter and stopped leaning her head against their mechanic so she could grab a plate and toss some grub on it. She ate neatly, small bites and chewing with her mouth closed. Her mama would have tanned her hide and reminded her she wasn't raised in no barn if she did something like that in her vicinity. She glanced over at Rora when she asked about the little doctors childhood and raised an arch eyebrow before snorting not very quietly, making it obvious to all that she didn't care and couldn't understand why anyone else would. Of course Fi already knew where she'd grown up, how many siblings she had, and what kind of grades she'd gotten. Of course that was part of Fi's job. "Cardew, did you meet everyone yet?" Fi gestured with her fork at the surrounding people. She figured the woman hadn't actually met most of them since Fi herself was one of the first. The little blond knew what kind of impression she'd made: Bad. Of course that was just fine with her, a little animosity would probably do the little doctor some good. She raised both eyebrows and put her elbows up on the table, noting the girls flinch every time someone did something that would be considered uncouth at her family's dining table. |

Rora elbowed Fi in the ribs lightly, bringing her eyebrows up. The new Doctor was getting enough crap from everyone else, did Fi really need to be in on it? Truth be told: yes. Rora knew that, but it often got exhausting trying to keep the peace. Still, it was Rora's part to remind Fi that she was human and there was a certain kindness to her that Rora got to see everyday. Rora winced inwardly. Being around Sidda and Martha was bringing out too much of the Companion in her. "I'm Aurora Carlisle, the mechanic. Call me Rora." |

Though she was paying careful attention, the young woman next to Miss Grant, who seemed tired but undeniably beautiful turned to her, and Cora nearly jumped again at the sound of her own name. Well, the question made her nervous, but it was innocent enough. Besides, she was a horrible liar. “Oh. well, I grew up on Londinum. In Roma, actually.” The Cardew manor seemed an awfully long way away now... Before she knew it, the pretty blonde with the sharp eyes was accosting her again. The tone wasn’t appreciated, but even so, any opportunity to help her acquaint herself was more than welcome. “No... aside from Doctor Lancaster, Mr. And... I mean Jay, the Captain and yourself, I’m afraid not.” Well four out of twelve wasn’t too bad. And then Miss Carlisle (she was really going to have to learn to use first names... well, except when addressing Doctor Lancaster, he was scary) was kind enough to offer an introduction. She was the mechanic? She looked as though she belonged at one of her Mother’s galas. Hiding her surprise, she instead extended a polite hand. “Coralyn Cardew, lovely to meet you..” |

Tom was glad to know about how long they were going to stay there. He probably would not even get off the ship unless he was forced to or had something to do. He'd probably up in the bridge, doing whatever he wanted to until he flew off or plotting next coordinates or what not. He needed a break, he did, but he didn't mind doing either. As cocky and a jerk he could be, he did like his job and he did like flying around. He might complain about it every now and then, but he did it all out of what could probably be considered as love for it. Not that he'd ever admit it,it was not something he'd voice. He swallowed his mouthful of food. He glanced back over at Fi at her mention of her coming up to the bridge to get his list. A mischievous glint came to his eyes. "It'll be ready, though if we do actual trading, we'll need to go down to my bunk to... trade a few thing." He was not showing too much emotion except for the glint in his eyes. His gaze traveled back over to the new doctor, trying to figure her out by the others introducing themselves to her. Fi seemed to be trying to bait her or something. Tom didn't offer up his own name right now and went back to his food. |

Excitement filled the boy as the Cressida took off and left atmo. It was hard for him to believe that he was really, finally, off of Persephone and in space. His eyes scanned everything around him as he wandered away from the room that had been given to him. He would've been happy just sharing a room with someone, yet he had a whole room just to himself. Nobody was around in the hallways. Jean wondered where they had all drifted to. He was able to find them quick enough, though, by following the scent of the food that Martha had cooked. His stomach growled, which was no surprise, and he made his way there. Nearing the doorway to the galley, the preteen slowed down his pace. He didn't want to go in if he wasn't supposed to be in there. Feelings of worry began to come over him, and he started to reconsider entering. He peeked inside, noticing everyone was in there, and he didn't recognize all of the faces. Taking a step into the galley, Jean tried to keep his anxiety in check. He kept near the doorway though, and spoke, in a sort of quiet tone, from there. "Hello." |
