A Company To Trust

[title]Basic Fact Sheet[/title] Full Name: The United Alliance of Planets Founded:2511 Governing Bodies: The Unified Worlds Council, The Parliament of Unified Planets, Supreme Court Military: Allied Military Forces Premier: Anyi Wen (Full Title: First Premier of the Unified Worlds Council) President: Bartholomew Sun (Full Title: High President of the Allied Worlds) Language: New Chinese & American English Monetary Unit: Credit [title]Finances[/title] In a show about just trying to stay afloat, you get a whole lot of references to just how important money is when it comes to staying alive. Less so, you get a good explanation of the exact system used. So, with a little help from the internet, this is what we've found: Credit Most monetary exchanges in the core happen through computer banks, using any number of highly efficient technological advances to balance a person's finances. However, there are times when computers cannot be relied on, and a person requires physical notes. The only form of currency sanctioned by the alliance is 'credits'. They are colorful bills in a range of monetary units, each laced with a data strip that can record up to 10,000 previous transactions, making tracing their movement a very simple job in most cases. Be wary, though, as credits are not accepted by everyone. Despite being the only legal form of payment in the 'verse, some people just can't trust anything the alliance gives them. 1 Credit = 25 USD 1 Credit = 2.5 Platinum = 5 Gold = 25 Silver Hard Coin Still widely used along the border, hard coins have a certain quality to them no flimsy, colorful little sheet of paper can ever have. Might be worth more, but a credit just doesn't feel as real in a man's hands as hard coins. Although not the officially recognized by the alliance, most anyone wanting to make some money will gladly accept them in payment, especially if that someone is looking to not get tracked. Hard coins come in three different units: platinum, gold, and silver. It takes five silver to make a gold piece and two gold to make a platinum. 1 Platinum = 50 USD 1 Gold = 5 USD 1 Silver = 1 USD [title]Government[/title] Although most every world has something of it's own system of government, the official ruling body is The Union of Allied Planets. It was born from the original Anglo-Sino Alliance founded on Earth-That-Was before the exodus, and as such is a cultural mix of the two Earth government, changed by billions of miles and hundreds of years. The powers of the government are divided into four branches: The Unified Worlds Council, Parliament, the Supreme Court., and the Allied Military Forces. The Unified Worlds Council: Is elected every five years by the Parliament, and acts as the head of state and chief administrative authority. It's membership includes the Premier (official title: First Premier of the Unified Worlds Council) as it's head of government as well as a President (official title: High President of the Allied Worlds) as the head of state, though his or her role is largely that of a figurehead. The Premier and the Parliament will also elect a High Council, which will include various department heads and other top officials (members earn the title 'First Lord/Lady...' of their department, such as 'First Lady of Interplantary Trade'). Parliament: The parliament (official title: The Parliament of Unified Planets) acts as the legislative branch of government. They create laws and bureaucracy in general, as well as elect the members of the Council. The Parliament is composed of two members of parliament from each world, typically known as the Senior and Junior MPs. Officially, the Senior members of parliament are elected by a world's government while the Junior members are elected through popular world vote. In practice, how the Senior and Junior members come to be in parliament is very rarely questioned in the case of most border worlds. As most of the business of government takes place on Londinum it is very rare for these officials to have much time back on their own planets unless they come from the core, and policies often reflect this lack of knowledge relating to their own constituents. MPs serve ten year terms. Supreme Court: The supreme court is the final court system in the government, presided over by twelve head Justices of the Peace. These Justices are elected for life long terms by the Premier. [title]Allied Military Forces[/title] The Allied Forces include all law enforcement units of the government including the army as well as, to a small extent, police forces. It functions much the same way many modern armies do, although the rankings have undergone many simplifications and changes and there are only two sectors of the service: Army and Aernavy. Ranks within the military are as follows: Private Lowest branch and often refered to as simple 'recruits'. The Private's responsibility is simple, to follow the orders of NCOs and commissioned officers that commands them. These, along with Private First Class, serve as the common combat troops of the ground forces. Ranks: Private Basic, Private Second Class, Private First Class Corporal Junior non-commission officer, usually with some sort of specialty (such as mechanic or navigator). Corporals have a small level of command over other soldiers, but are not given command of entire squads. If a solider is not given to a certain specialty, they may jump this ranking all together. Sergeant There are several rankings of Sergeant, each with an increased amount of responsibility in the daily lives of soldiers. Sergeants begin with command over a squad (about 10 soldiers) and eventually could become the principle non-commission officer of a battalion (300 to 1,000 soldiers). Regardless of official title, most sergeants are referred to simple as 'sergeant'. Ranks: Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major. Lieutenant Junior grade of commission officer, the lieutenant is likely to be in charge of anywhere between two squads to an entire company. Ranks: Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant Lieutenant Commander/Major An officer position between that or lieutenant and commander. Lieutenant Commanders may, in fact, command a ship of their own, although not yet promoted to full captain. They may have command over a battalion of men as well. Lt. Commander is used only for spacecraft units, while the ground equivalent is the position of Major. Captain/Colonel Typically, the commanding officer of a brigade, although on smaller ships a captain may only have a squad available to him. General/Admiral A general or admiral will have command of multiple brigades or a fleet of ships. Ranks: Major General/Rear Admiral (or Commodore), Lieutenant General/Vice Admiral, General/Admiral |
