A Company To Trust

[title]Circa 2100: Exodus[/title] The population of Earth-That-Was becomes to great for a single planet alone. In a combined effort to further progress the human race, the two world super powers (China and the United States) fund an effort to expand out into other solar systems. Forty two ships are created and filled with various goods, technologies, and - of course - humans. These ships, which carried everything from animal DNA to terraforming equipment, were designed to transport their passengers to a new star system and, once settled, transform dead rocks into livable, breathing worlds. This journey would take generations, and in the end thirteen of the original Exodus ships never arrived at their location in the new system. Thousands of lives were lost. Generations of people never so much as saw the sky outside these monstrous metal arks. And for what? A handful of dusty moons to call their own. [title]Circa 2200: Original Settlement[/title] The remaining twenty nine ships arrive in this new system, with some of the first settling on what would come to be known as 'Londinum', 'Sihnon' and 'Bernadette'. It would take decades before the effects of terraforming would take hold and the planets became livable, but soon humanity found itself on new, fresh soil with a whole sky of Earths stretching out before them. Some worlds would flourish as modern paradises, while others (lacking the funds or technologies) struggled to hold onto any sort of society. The mixing of cultures aboard the original Exodus ships created strange social ranking and hierarchies seen more prominently at the edges of the system, where the strong hand of a proper government had yet to form, busy with the keep up of the central planets. Planets and moons are continuously terraformed: the lengthy and expensive process making it difficult to do more than a few at any given point. Around the early 2500s, a planet known as Miranda is ready to be settled, and the Blue Sun Company fiances multiple ads calling for settlers, boosting of it's technology and city life virtually unknown out on the rim. Thirty million people respond to the call for settlers, and move themselves out to begin their lives on this new planet. Most of the businesses and cities are owned by the Blue Sun Corporation. Meanwhile, the Anglo-Sino Alliance, which until this time has concentrated heavily on the maintenance of it's central worlds, starts to enforce taxes, patrols, border guards, and other regulations not only within the core, but in other nearby systems as well. As their influence expands, so too does the undercurrents of rebellion. While some planets do not mind the interferences, and even stand to benefit from the government's actions, others gain nothing but the negative aspects of these newly enforced laws. They begin bringing up the fact that most of these planets have their own government, constitution, and sovereignty. Sponsored by the Anglo-Sino Alliance, who still own most of the terraforming equipment from the original Exodus, the air systems of Miranda are filled with an untested chemical (commonly referred to as Pax) meant to quell aggression and violence, such as the kind displayed by some of the more outspoken groups against the current administration's actions. After receiving no contact for a while, an nearby ship is sent to investigate, only to find most of the planet dead. The remaining ten percent have gone completely mad, having the opposite effect to the Pax, and begin hunting and murdering the crew. One member is able to survive long enough to send a warning message back to the alliance. This message is uniformly ignored and covered up by certain members of the government. Any cortex information on Miranda is systematically deleted, and rumors to a terraforming failure are spread in order to minimize curiosity. Miranda is quickly remembered only as being a black rock, and then not remember at all. [title]2506: Civil War[/title] A small, local ship is ordered by an Alliance IAV to dock for what it calls a routine check. The ship refuses to bank with the ship and continues home towards Hera. As a result, it is shot down by the Alliance for failure to respond to a direct order. The ship is an unarmed vessel carrying only a handful of passengers looking to settle on Hera or visiting family. Although not the first event of violence between both sides, it is soon credited as being the "true" start of the war. Worlds and families are forced to choose sides, and many become split on the issue of unification verses independence. The core worlds and systems are mainly composed of planets already under the Anglo-Sino Treaty, and mostly are in support of unification. Outside the core, many border and rim worlds feel threatened by these unknown, and often times disinterested parties coming in to rule their worlds. They are largely in support of planetary independence. [title]2507: Reavers & The Academy Appear[/title] Stories of man gone mad at the edge of space begin to make their rounds as Reaver attacks grow more and more common, especially on the unprotected rim planets. The Alliance initially blames "terrorist cells" within the Independent Faction, but then refuses to make any comment on the attacks at all. No official word on Reavers is ever released. The Alliance opens a military academy that accepts only the "most brilliant students with potential far exceeding that which normal military training could handle". Their first attempt at utilizing these potential gifts noted in their students is an utter failure, with the many dying on the surgeon's table. [title]2511: Battle Serenity Valley & The Treaty For Unification Signing[/title] The Battle of Serenity Valley is fought with the now suffering Browncoat army remaining largely out numbered. Victory seems inevitable for the Allied forces after so many recent defeats of the Independent Faction. They send supplies and men enough to take the Valley in a week, figuring that to be more than enough to desecrate the sixteen brigades and twenty air-tank squads the Independents are able to send. Although the Alliance do end up claiming the valley as a victory, the Browncoats are able to hold them back for nearly a full two months. The causalities on both sides are immense, nearly half a million lie dead and abondoned on the field, and the Independent Faction is unable to recover. The soldiers are left, starving and sick, in the valley while those in power negotiate a treaty. Eventually, every world signs in agreement to be under the supervision and rule of the Anglo-Saxon Alliance, which becomes known under the title of 'Union of Allied Planet'. Unification day is celebrated to mark the signing of this document and the peace and reform that it brings to the universe, or at least that is what all the school books say. [title]2512: Purchase Of Serenity[/title] Somewhere out there, an old model Firefly can barely get itself in the air, and yet regardless of this little fact, it is purchased by one Malcolm Reynolds. It quickly goes from being a pile of junk to being Serenity, a well loved and at least functioning pile of junk. [title]2515: Second Wave Of Academy Students Enters[/title] The Alliance sponsors an Academy program from what it labels 'gifted students', and recruits a number of incredible skilled children. These young students are the second wave of students after the original failed experiment underwent with the military academy. They are certain they will achieve better results with this batch, noting that a particular student (River Tam, 14, Female, Ident Number 432,423,9360) shows great promise. [title]2517: Shènglì Begins Patrol, Academy Break Out, Cressida Is Reorganized[/title] An underground Independence movement is given a large amount of funding, and as a result one of the students from the Academy is lost. River Tam is "kidnapped" by her older brother, Simon Tam. Both are marked as fugitives, and the alliance works to recover the stolen student as quickly as possible. However, the Tams are lost boarding a ship on the docks at Persephone. At the same time, a large number of A.P.Vs are assigned new positions along border and rim worlds, including the A.P.V. Shingdi. Their stated goal is to uphold peace, order, and lawfulness for all of Allied Citizens. The rising in rumors of an Independent upheaval may also have effected the number of ships now on patrol through out the systems. The Spencer Transport Company's owner, Gregory Spencer-Dai, is rumored to be dead. A preceding is held in his honor and his wife takes over ownership of the company. Although most of the logistics for the fleet remain the same, she personally takes control of a ship called 'Cressida', and while she continues to run business from aboard the ship, it also becomes a center for talk of a revolution. |
