"...until you say something like that," Gideon finally finished. "We're insulted, Atropos. Insulted and shocked. You used to be such a Chiron, but now it's like you don't even appreciate the pleasure of our company!" |

"Exactly. We should talk to Slughorn. He appreciates our wit and talent. And after we brought you cake!" |

"I said thank you!" she repeated. "And I'm terribly sorry if my work as a teacher interupts your babbling, but I do have a job to keep up you know!" |

"Oh, it's all right," Gideon said magnamiously, nodding sagely. "I mean, we understand the pressures of duty as well as anyone, don't we, Fab? So we'll forgive you for interrupting our babbling. We know you can't help it." |

"Quite right too. I mean, being a teacher must be nearly as much hard work as being the greatest wizards of your generation, am I right? Nearly. So we understand." Fab made no move to...well, move. Except for taking another ginger newt. |

"Honestly, though," Gideon went on, mirroring his brother's movement, his face completely straight, "we do understand the pressures of duty. Why, only yesterday, I was tutoring a nearby street urchin in the fine art of Transfiguration when what should happen, but a chair fly through the window - on silver wings, very irritating - and proceed to bounce around the room in a most irritating fashion, ending up on one leg on Fab's head, which distressed our poor little urchin more than a little. You'll like the urchin. He can't afford a real wand, so we gave him a liquorice one, but I think he ate it. Tragic, isn't it? Poor little mite couldn't afford a thing to eat after the orphanage/hospital burnt down in that horrible accident involving a dragon and a drunken troll having a hand-to-hand battle in the middle of the road! Of course, we were there at the time, but after Fab got trodden on by the troll, I was too busy tending to my poor wounded brother to battle off the rampaging dragon. The urchin was the only survivor, and so, you see," he finished, his face still as serious as ever, "we understand exactly the importance of duty, and the importance of taking breaks, as well. Good biscuits, by the way." |

"OUT!" McGonagall roared. "I HAVE WORK TO DO! GOOD DAY, MR.S PREWETT." Merlin, if Sirius Black and James Potter wouldn't be the death of her, she had no doubt these two would handle the job. |

"All right, all right. We try to make your life easier by introducing you to the concept of mid-work breaks, and this is how you repay us?" Gideon grinned. "Well, fine. We know where we're not wanted, don't we, Fab?" All the time he spoke, he was methodically piling Ginger Newts up in his hands, and by the time he had finished, he had maybe twenty of them in the crook of his arm. |
