Glen stifled a nervous snigger, chewing on his lip, and reached for his Thermos again, pouring himself another capful of hot chocolate. "Um," he said, brilliantly, gulping down the last of the chocolate and screwing the top back on. "I don't suppose any of you watch the footie, do you?" Thanks a lot, Dad, he thought irritably, turning back to the broom with his wand out. Talk about the footie, isn't that what you said? Always breaks the ice? If I end up having to explain what footie is again... ...I need to stop doing that. They're already having a conversation, remember? Ice-breaking not required. |

"Ugh, Sirius, that's horrible." Alice scowled at the broom, rather wishing she could give Sirius' parents a good round of hexing in return. So distracted was she that she totally failed to respond to Frank, and subsequently kicked herself. Way to miss a perfect chance, Ali. 'I'll teach you to play' isn't so hard to say, is it? Except that just the thought made her squirm uncomfortably. So she spoke to Glen instead. "My boy mates at home are obsessed. I don't get why. It's no fun just watching. Football's only fun if you get involved." |

"Is that the game with the little black and white ball?" asked Frank absently, looking to Glen. It was pretty hard to live in London without at least having heard of football. He felt rather uncomfortable with Sirius and Alice's conversation -Frank never knew what to say about Sirius' family- and so he was careful to not include himself in it. |

"Footie?" Sirius frowned, thinking. "Yeah... with the little black and white ball, just one, right? And everyone stays on the ground for the whole game?" He shook his head. "How can that be any fun?" |

"Um..." Glen rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, we - I mean, Muggles - we don't exactly have the choice, you know? And it's sort of fun, actually - I mean, I'm not sporty, but we watch it on telly when we can. My dad's a big fan. It's pretty cool, really. It's got skill to it, like Quidditch, only you can only move on one level, so you have to be quicker and you can't go over or under anyone." |

Alice, you double crosser. Sitting out there, fixing his broom. I ought to go find Frank and …and… Florence lost her train of thought, stopping mid step in front of one of the castles many windows. She had seen, from her perch in her dorm,(not that she had been watching), Sirius walk outside the castle walls and sit next to Alice. She had watched for a while, smiling creepily to herself until she realized that she was acting all too potter-ish; something she frequently, although much more inconspicuously, did. So having gathered her courage, fixed her hair, replaced the dress she had been wearing with a plain white t-shirt and jeans, donning her robe over top, she had begun the very face paced walk down and out of the Gryffindor common room. Merlin! This group has grown. She thought, walking swiftly away from the window she had been looking out of. Frank and a tall Ravenclaw boy she knew only by Stebbins had joined the crew. Florence smiled to herself, twisting a stray lock of hair between her fingers as she took the stairs two at a time. It would be much easier the larger the quantity of boys. Smiling at this thought, she stopped in the entrance hall, glancing at her opaque reflection in one of the panes of glass before emerging out onto the grounds, heading straight for the party. |

"It's actually brilliant," Alice told them. "I was on the team at my primary school. It was awesome, and we won the regional under-10s. It's just no fun to watch! Unless England are playing Scotland," she added reflectively. "Then it becomes a matter of national pride." |

Frank turned his focus back to the broomstick, paying little mind to the conversation of his peers. He had a hard enough time keeping up with wizard sports; there was no way he could even attempt a conversation about football. All he knew was there was a teem called the Uniteds... or something like that, anyways. He waved his wand about, trying out a few basic counter curses, most of which had already been used by the other three. He looked up from the broom in frustration, just in time to see Florence hurrying towards them. Though he didn't really know her, Frank's be-more-social plan was quite successful so far, and this gave him the confidence to wave. |

"They have no excuse for only having one ball," Sirius said. "I saw this one muggle sport once where they hit balls at each other and ran around in big circles. Why can't they do that in footieball?" He was grinning, his Beater pride showing through. Any sport that hit balls with stick was a good sport in Sirius' opinion. Frank waved and Sirius looked up, giving Florence a grin and a nod. Another Gryffindor. Glen was horribly outnumbered. "Or, you know, they could throw horses in. Or motorbikes. Merlin, I saw this motorbike gang in Egypt, and it was like they were flying without leaving the ground. I want a motorbike." |

"You should see one of these motorbike rallies," Glen said, with a little smile. "They have this awesome place near Newcastle. And, um, do you mean cricket? Um... rounders?" Frowning, he looked up and waved briefly at Florence, smiling. "You played footie, Lewis? You've got to admit, though, even if England - or Scotland, I suppose, you're Scottish, right? - isn't in the running, the World Cup's awesome as long as there's at least one British country in the running. Or Norway. But Norway hardly even has a team." |
