About You What should we call you? Fox Riley. I'll settle for "Foxy" if you must. What is your gender? Female. How can we get in touch with you? PM me. Or ask for my MSN. How did you know we were here? That's sort of a redundant question. Did you read all of the rules? Wrote them. Show us a sample post, from any game. A recent one would be nice. Doesn’t have to be the character you’re applying for. He didn't normally come to this bar, but it was on the way home from the daily errands run and he'd been in the mood for a drink. It was a rare kind of bar that didn't sell the sort of alcohol he liked to drink. Eddie Orchard was not in the best of moods... Not in a bad mood, just not quite his usual, semi-cheerful self. Not that you could tell. He stared in the general direction of the wide-screen tv behind the bar, nursing a vodka-soda, and looking exactly like the rest of the men in the bar. If it weren't for the exceptionally long hair and the ever-present chain around his neck, he would have even been indistinguishable from the next patron. Why was he brooding? Unlike the rest of the Depraved (with the sole, very ironic, exception of Klaude) he wasn't covinced that what had happened yesterday was something that could be so easily brushed off. Sure, he'd practicly dared the woman to ruin his career... but he hadn't bloody well meant it, had he? Just saying something because he was pissed off, frustrated, and couldn't see a way to turn the meeting back onto a good note. So there he was. At a bar. Stalling before he went back home to his apartment and what would no doubt be an order-in dinner. How many characters do you currently have on this board? Aside from this one... Anything else you want to tell us before we begin? It's five-thirty where I am and I haven't slept yet. About Your Character Basics Full name: Severus Snape Nicknames: None. No aknowledged nicknames, in any case. Seriously, try giving him a nickname. Someday you'll be made to regret it. Ancestry: Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies. Ok, fine. 'Pureblood'. *cough* Gender: Male Age: 15 Birthday: Irrelevant. Sorted into: Slytherin. Who do you follow? Fluid. Currently leaning more towards the side that's looking to bash Potter's face in. Wand: Skilled. Personal Sexuality: Quiet. He would prefer to suffer in silence rather than give you any further ammunition. Likes: The satisfaction of being right. The means to the end. Aniseed. Potions and spells - they don't judge. The smell of freshly washed and dried laundry. The sound/smell/feel of books. Power. Secretly, soft-spoken conversations and affectionate words. The quiet. Winter and snowflakes. Dislikes: Iodine. Fists. Other people. Being talked down to. Family. Himself. Losing. Summer. Being completely alone. Words, when they hurt. Strengths:Intelligence. The instinctual grasp of certain concepts pivotal to perfect potions... Willpower; He could force himself through just about anything if he had the right motivation. Duplicity. Naturally acquired as a slytherin, he is well versed in the art of secrecy. He can hide his emotions fairly well for someone his age. Do we have to say it? A certain aptitude for curses. Weaknesses: Social awkwardness, which should speak for itself. Easily hurt by words, even when he knows they shouldn't bother him. Finds it easier to be a cynic than an optimist, which means he tends to focus on the negative. Often too much. At this particular age, he can be influenced by the opinions of others... more easily than he'd like to admit. His family and childhood, which he likes to discuss as little as possible. Goals: Become the very best in his chosen field. Get those goddamn Marauders if it's the last thing he does. To prove that brains will always triumph against brawn. Never show any weakness. (It's a work in progress.) To just make someone understand. Fears: Ridicule. Being wrong, especially at a moment where being right is of critical importance. Not being smart enough/strong enough. Being completely, irrevokably alone. Forever. And very, very quietly... Himself. Tics, Quirks & Habits: Mutters to himself sometimes when engrossed in reading or puzzling out a problem. Tends to tap his fingers agains things sometimes. Pet Peeves: Potter. People speaking over the top of him. Being held back by teachers who dont move fast enough. Idiocy. People. Favorite sounds and smells: Woodsmoke. Black tea. Old books. Blackberry leaf. Classical music. Have you ever met a boggart? What does it look like? Severus didn't meet his worst fear until after the fact. He hasn't discovered it yet because it's not yet an option. For now, his boggart is a grotesque memory pulled directly from a nightmare. Tall, like a skeleton covered in grey skin, the thing is joined at the middle by a knobbly spine and no internal organs. It has no eyes, only holes. Its hands are like spiders. It's a nightmare being that represents everything that's wrong with his head, an amalgamation of all other bits of fear and hatred that exist wthin him. He fears it most of all because in a strange way... it reminds him of himself. Can you cast Patronus? What does it look like? What memory do you use? A dragonfly. The memory is of sitting by the lake with Lily, talking about nothing and enjoying the quiet of a rare afternoon free of homework or pressure. What is the worst memory Dementors bring forward? Memories. Multiple stories of nastiness to dwell on. From home, the remembered shouting coming through the wall as he lay in bed, a little boy with his head under the covers, wishing it all away. Wishing so hard that it did go away. And then the ambulances came, and it was all back again. From school, remembered taunts. One after the other, individual memories made stronger by their repetition. Failures, failed friendship... Oh God. Oh Merlin. My fault... If you were to find the Mirror of Erised, what would you see? It's a room in a small cottage and it's warm and cosy. Severus sits at the small polished-wood dining table. He is older, and he is smiling as he sips a cup of tea. The clock behind him says it's late at night. Books line a wall of shelves behind him and seated in the chair next to him, Lily Evans is fast asleep with her head pillowed on her arms. She is pregnant, and looks like an angel. Tell me a couple secrets about yourself: He keeps his fears to himself, which counts as a secret, and he also keeps most of his desires to himself. In general, he's a very secretive person. You could say that the entirety of his mind was one big secret. Personality: Snape is, above all else, a loner and a cynic. He doesn't trust you, he probably doesn't like you, and he is well aware that you don't like him. He masks his emotions, allowing himself to express only those things that can't be used against him... At least, that's the idea. It works better in theory than it does in practice. At best he comes off cold and aloof, at worst he seems arrogant and uncaring. The truth is that it's a front, a personality put in place because he's been hurt far too many times to regard most of his peers with anything other than suspicion. He is fiercely intelligent and feels that the learning offered to him in some facets of school is just holding him back. Allowed to study at his own pace he does much better than when he is stifled by a classroom and a teacher whose methods are inadequate. He feels that most teachers hold back the bright sparks by working at the pace of the dumbest students in the class. If he were to teach, he wouldn't let the average-and-below students dictate what he taught to those who showed potential. Severus is also fascinated by the dark arts. They're not exactly an obsession...or perhaps they are. He likes the challenge of it, the fact that it's not the easy road that the good and righteous would like you to believe. He likes that the dark arts are hard and dirty, and never so easy to master. It's like a living entity unto itself, and to master that power is both exciting and terrifying. In his core, Snape is desperate for acceptance. He's so lonely, he has been ever since he was a child. It's that feeling of isolation that allows him to be swayed by the opinions of others. In a perfect world, he would have been befriended by more than one kind hearted person. He would have done well in an atmosphere that praised his talent, with a mentor who guided rather than ordered. He could have been on the path to becoming a kind, thoughtful scholar. Instead, ridicule from his peers and a constant feeling of isolation drives him to be bitter. There is still hope, he's not dead inside. He just likes to pretend that he is, because that way it doesn't hurt quite so much when things dont go the way he wants them to. He likes girls, ok? And maybe he's thought about a boy once or twice. But he's never going to admit to either of those things aloud. He's quite happy letting everyone think that he has absolutely no interest in anyone, male or female. Why? Fear of rejection, and fear that he'd be made fun of. It galls him sometimes that he's taken the easy road, and sometimes he'd really just like to tell a girl that he likes her... but then he remembers just how bad he is at social interaction, and how often doing anything more than keeping to himself results in fights and detention, or in getting picked on. The feelng passes pretty quickly after that. Snape likes classical music. He likes snow, the quiet of a lazy day, and lots of little simple pleasures. He'll never be a party animal. He would much prefer to be curled up with a good book than to go out to a bar. He's not much of a sports fan. He is sensible and prefers to be the voice of reason rather than the instigator (with some notable exceptions). He likes it when things come together and loves the complexity of magic. He studies because he wants to, because he's driven to by a need to be the best. Magic doesn't judge you, it doesn't ask for more than the right application of processes. It's a ray of light and beauty in an otherwise dreary world. (And he wishes he could explain this to people. He wishes that someone would understand.) If he has a sense of humour, it is well hidden and very, very dark. Looks Distinguishing Features: Unless death shears his face off... Well, his face. It's very distinctive. Not-so-distinguishing features: Snape is developing a near-permanent sneer. He tends to speak in a sarcastic drawl. Appearance: Skinny, lanky, and tall enough to stand a little higher than the crowd. His skinny shoulders hint that this will be the body type he's likely to have for life. That's not really a prospect that he enjoys thinking about. His face is dominated by a large, beaky nose that he has yet to grow into. His hair is limp, dark, and always a bit greasy no matter what he does to it - frankly, he's given up trying. A pallid tone and permanent dar smudges under his eyes complete the look. It's not pretty, but it's what he's stuck with. He tends to wear dark clothes. Place of Birth: Nottinghamshire. Immediate family: He has parents. Two of them. He doesn't find them particularly important. Extended family: None. Other important people: Lily Evans, friend. Pets: None. History: Why? The past is nothing to be proud of and he likes to think of it as little as possible. He was born into a family that was, for a short time, happy. That happiness died and, at about the same time, so did he. He had no friends, only acquaintances. Then he met Lily. The parts with her are the only parts he likes to recall. Misc Anything else you want to share? Not applicable. Edited by Fox, Jun 13 2009, 07:39 PM.

Accepted by Spider! Looks good! But Snape, even if you don't like them, you do have nicknames. Keep that in mind! |
