All I'll say right now is I thought it was a pretty good episode. thumb up The guest cast was very good and for once in a JSB written episode it did not feel, to me at least, like the regular cast were making guest appearances on their own show.
Crappers! I tried doing the spoiler thingy but it didn't work so WARNING: Very MINOR SPOILERS about Reid coming up:
The only spoilers I will say right now is that Reid has a couple of random facts type lines, one being a bit reminiscent of the "True Night" (?) episode.
There were a couple of negatives for me but overall I liked this episode. More comments tomorrow or Thursday.

I have to say this has been the best one from JSB so far.

I found it interesting that Reid said something about a drug dealer. He said something like "A drug dealer doesn't call you twice a day-- you call him". Which may have indicated Reid had personal experience with it.

I will say it was still unsub heavy and that it seemed to be going ok up until near the end when they suddenly had the potential victim turn out to be a psychopath. The motivations and behaviors were unrealistic.

The bit with Rossi talking about his vacation days seemed forced. It was too hit the viewer over the head about showing they support the troops. I think maybe it was the line delivery. Reid suggesting Rossi go to Florida did not make sense. They know Rossi. He's been with them for years. They would know how he felt about vacations and I felt they were making too big of a deal out of it. It just seemed off.

I sort of liked Blake's "Wow" after Reid explained how to drive from one place to another and the exact route and how long it would take. Some people took it as an insult but I took it as her being impressed.

Hotch was underused in this one. He didn't even go on the raid. I don't understand that.

I did like his dry delivery of "Yes it is" as he walked in the room just after Garcia said "Altruism is sexy".

The moment they showed the Mexico card I thought Rossi was going to go there. It was pretty obvious.

I sort of felt like they are still pushing for supersmart JJ again by having her be the one to say it was two unsubs.

A lot of the conclusions the team members came to didn't seem like they had enough evidence and it was more scripted than actually done by profiling.

suceress, I was wondering the same thing about the drug dealer remark by Reid. Hotch glanced up at him when he said it and it could be just my imagination but I thought it was a glance of understanding with regards to Reid's past or something like that.
I liked that we did not know who the unsub was before the opening credits and had to wait about 15 minutes before seeing them. Now I just hope that next week we have to wait even longer to see who the unsub is.
I loved Reid's rambling, especially the one on drive time between San Diego and LA. I've read elsewhere how people hate it because it is not accurate but that doesn't bother me.
I loved Reid's hair in this episode as well. Judging by the preview it looks like he got the back trimmed in that episode.
I liked Blake's "wow" as well. I liked her look in this ep. In the first episode I didn't like her hair and makeup but maybe it was just the white shirt she wore in that ep. I'm still on the undecided side with regards to her character but am leaning more to liking her after this episode.
I do kind of wonder how this ended up being a BAU case. Despite the twist near the end of the victim being a psychopath I thought it was a pretty simple case with simple profiling and wondered why the police did not look into the backgrounds of the first 2 victims. I know the "Mark" character changed his name but I imagine it shouldn't have required the FBI to figure it out.
I've always thought that Rossi liked his vacation time. Except that one episode when he was living in an apartment (an not a mansion) he was happy to come back to work because the apartment above his was under renovation and he couldn't concentrate working on his book. His sudden dislike of vacation seemed off to me.
I liked the transition from the beach photo to the actual beach. I've always liked when they do that. What I didn't like was that Rossi didn't figure out that Darlene may be somewhere on the beach. There were 2 identical beach chairs close to one another and they didn't search the beach, the toilets, the food stands, the bus right across the street from the cop cars? While I did like that she got away that was a bit too easy IMO.
I seem to have more negatives than positives but I really do like this episode. The only thing that I really did not like was how easy Darlene got away.

I agree that Darlene got away too easily. And the look the other chick gave her as she was in the police car... It just didn't fit with the character. She had been so lacking sympathy/empathy before. The characters were too inconsistent.

I do love the transitions where they go from a picture to an actual scene.

I also call BS on Rossi not liking vacation. I felt they were either setting something up for a later episode or were making a very overt "we support the troops" message. Rossi was retired for 10 years. He would have plenty of things to do while not working.

I noticed something in Reid's speech patterns from past episodes. When he talks about something he can relate to, he says "You". Like in "In Name And Blood" when he talked about how when one parent was gone and the other was unstable "you" are on your best behavior. It was something personal for him. Or the "When you're being tortured, there's no end in sight..." line from "100". This time he said "you call him" but also he later said something about when people commit a crime together "you" get closer. I asked Janine Barrois about it on Twitter (I pointed out the trend with Reid's speech patterns) and asked if it was intentional. She said she didn't know and would have to watch the scene again.
