Yeah. I hope it is good. It's a good thing it didnt' air tonight because I was asleep. I woke up 20 minutes after 8 and turned on the TV to see which episode was on. It was "Hope". I was able to watch until they showed Garcia being whiny and I turned the tv off. And, I started this reply over a day ago but apparently never hit Post Reply as I was distracted... |

Wow, everyone must be too busy to comment on this episode. I liked it because it was different from the usual format plus I like flashbacks!!! The way they tried to match the hair styles to the year was unintentionally hilarious. Reid ended up with a mullet that totally didn't look like his hair in 2009. So it was very entertaining. I liked the more somber and elegiac tone which underscores the toll being a profiler takes on their personal life. That's a real price Rossi has to pay to bring closure to families. Not enough Reid again but the interchanging hairstyles was fun. |

Yeah I've been pretty busy the last couple of weeks or so. Just realized I didn't comment on last weeks episode. I liked that this episode was different as well. Liked that there was some decent profiling. Loved the awful wigs. Liked that they remembered that Hotch once worked at the Seattle field office. Liked that MGG remembered (or was reminded of) Reids season 1 mannerisms. Disliked that they didn't seem to remember that the team, minus Hotch, had not met Rossi until he came back to the BAU in 2007 (or was it 2008?). Still despite all the things I liked about this episode and even though the unsub was only revealed near the end I did find this episode to be rather dull. |

I started having problems with my eye Wednesday night. It just started blurring up on me and I decided to take some time away from the computer-- plus my cat (Captain Fluffy) sits on my laptop a lot and gets upset if I try to pull it out from underneath her. She kept camping on it for hours so I decided to let her be and not disturb her. now she' curled up on a sears catalog. Mwahahahaha. *cough* I found myself enjoying the episode and wanting to see what happened and if they had solved the case. It wasn't the best episode obviously. Not as interesting as Revelations, but it was still better than a lot of the drivel we've had this season. I agree about the hairpieces/wigs etc. They were just AWFUL. Rossi's wig wasn't the right color. They didn't even try to do anything with Morgan and Hotch. The season 3 wig on Prentiss was bad... Reid's mullet didn't look too much like one to me bc I live in an area where people really do still have mullets with very short hair in the front-- but Matthew even noted it and laughed about it on Twitter-- so I guess the consensus was that it was a mullet. I agree with Mirri on the continuity. Hotch + Seattle = good. Not remembering meeting Rossi = bad. Two major things really detracted from the episode for me. One was the whole thing of interacting with the students. That was the weakest point of the story. The dialog was not so good and the line delivery was terrible. It was not at all believable and I felt they could have continued to tell the story without interruption without interrupting the flow. They didn't need to have someone ask what the signature. One of the team could have chosen to explain what it was just to be clear. The other thing that bugged me more than that was the camera work. Rather than putting the camera directly in front of Rossi so that he was centered and the team were all about equal distance from the camera, they put it off to the right (his left) which meant that JJ was super close and Reid and Garcia were far away. But that wasn't even my biggest gripe. They panned the camera behind the heads of the audience and at some points this caused the camera to go a bit out of focus because of the obstruction. At one point there was a bright red blur on the screen and I thought that something had gone wrong or that a light was shining right at the camera. Turns out it was light reflecting off the head of a very closeup view of someone's head. Then they kept passing the camera behind heads and each time it was distracting. Instead of pulling me in it annoyed me. It was supposed to mimic being in the audience but the way it moved was not the way someone sitting in the audience would have moved so it didn't work. Another thing I noticed was that as they were doing introductions they paused briefly on each person up until Morgan. Then they kept panning the camera so Reid was a blur and stopped on Garcia. Now, this is going to sound very nitpicky and is probably me just reading too much in to things, but the subtext really indicated to me how unhealthy of an attitude they have toward Reid. Not only did he have fewer lines than everyone else, he had the fewest closeups-- but even more than that was how he was introduced and treated. Rossi introduced JJ, Prentiss, Hotch, "and Morgan" as "SSAs". Then he just called Reid "Dr. Spencer Reid". It may not have been intentional, but this gave the impression that Reid is NOT an agent or not an SSA (but he is). Then when Morgan talked about how over the years they trained new profilers, got a media liaison, and got a technical analyst. He added that they even got their own resident genius. Now, to me this sounded again like Reid was being separated and not treated as one of the profilers. Note how Rossi and Garcia got chuckles and signs of approval from the audience, but Reid's sparse contributions were greeted with disgust and derision. Really, Rossi and Garcia were NOT that funny and Reid's comment that elicited the over-acted "Ewww" was not that bad. I mean, WTF was wrong with these people that after hearing descriptions of mutilation and seeing pictures of the bodies that the one thing that gets an Eww or even a disgusted reaction is mention of eating a uterus? Really? Too forced IMO. It's the whole overdone thing about how Reid is not popular but Rossi and Garcia are. Despite wanting to strangle the director over the bad camera work, I still enjoyed the episode. I would give the story an A- but the filming/directing a C. The Rossi birthday thing was predictable. I saw that coming a mile away. No way in hell any judges would have allowed that deal though. I mentioned in another thread that I'm worried about how the diminishing role/importance of Reid will impact Matthew's contract negotiations. I talked to someone who used to work in the business (one of the things she worked on was ALF) and she was saying how this actually could damage his chances of getting a better deal. If the show producers do not consider him to be that important than CBS is more likely to lowball him. It gives him less leverage in negotiations. If CBS can even come to an agreement, he will likely be second to last billing (very last billing with "and" in front of it is actually an important and coveted position for an actor) and remain lower paid than the rest of the cast. Paget and AJ had the support of the very vocal fans to back them up and help with their contracts. Obviously Paget refused to renew-- but the fan outcry actually helped her get more episodes in the 6th season than CBS had wanted to give her. I wonder if we should politely contact CBS to express how important Reid/Matthew is to the show and fans. |

I agree with you on the camera work suceress. It was annoying. I also didn't like that Reid was not included in the SSA's. As for the students, I liked the Zimmerman character. What worries me is that the writer, Virgil Williams, seems to like the "Ewww!" student. Apparently according to tv.com the character's name was Sloan and VW has tweeted several times "#bringSloanback". Now that I've seen the episode I feel like tweeting him "#don'tbringbacksloan". |

hopefully the lack of good Reid screentime won't affect the contract negotiations. Reid/Matthew is a very popular part of CM but I guess the fans might have to get more vociferous/pro-active if it turns out that contract talks are dragging. Hmmm, get ready to send in tons of Reid stuff like........ pipecleaners with eyes, rimless glasses... as a protest?????? |

Well, the showrunners and most of the writers have pretty much rudely dismissed any complaints from fans about Reid's lack of screentime and contribution in episodes. They treat all Reid fans as a bunch of crazy ninnies and don't seem to think that they in any way represent a majority. It doesn't help that the two showrunners are the absolute worst writers on the show. I couldn't figure out why Janine Barrois wasn't fired but it turns out she's the executive producer. When writers pitch their ideas it goes to Erica AND Janine. Janine doesn't give a rat's behind about the team members. She's all about the unsubs and wants to show us the most shocking unsubs all the time. She doesn't know how to do the profiling either. Erica doesn't know how to do profiling and she only seems to care about Angry!Morgan. Btw, I should note that every male character except Reid has now been shirtless on the show. Even Rossi was shirtless... Prentiss, Garcia, and JJ have shown more chest skin on a more regular basis than Reid. The only glimpse we got was a blurry shot in a nightmare he had and his chest had leeches on it. They just do not consider him an equal. It's more like he is a sidekick. I'm thinking of arranging a Tumblr campaign to let CBS know we want Reid back, but it might be premature. And Ugh.. It does worry me that his favorite line was probably my least favorite line. And all proud of the thing of Garcia thinking Morgan was calling her the genius. I hate how they have turned her character into a farce. Edited by suceress, May 13 2012, 04:04 PM.
