Overall an ok episode IMO. A much better Rick Dunkle episode than "Epilogue" (the drowning/resuscitation unsub) which I thought is easily the worst episode so far this season. Usual complaints of too much unsub and seeing him before the opening credits. My favourite parts are all Reid of course. Garcia calling him 187, his quick reply of 840 miles with regards to the length of the california coast and of course him listing off the number of bruises and cuts J.J had and saying to the medic that he would suggest a CAT scan. J.J's fight scene was a bit disappointing. I really didn't like the direction of the camera for that scene. I thought it was too close up. I would have preferred it to be a bit further away. I'm going to have to watch it again. I was actually squirming on my couch when Mike put the car on his former friend and closed the compactor on him. I don't get creeped out by the violence on this show but it is scenes like this that I do. |

I got to watch some of the episode even though it kept cutting out at points. I didn't see the unsub before the opening credits because the signal was lost for several minutes. I was actually enjoying it up until I did see the unsub confronting his former best friend. The sound cut out when Garcia said 187 so I just heard "--tee seven" and had to ask someone what she said. I did like Reid fretting over JJ. I have heard a LOT of people complaining about how the fight scene with JJ was filmed. Not only was it filmed strangely, but the action itself was too hokey. It was clearly stage fighting and was not at all realistic. It just wasted time. I don't get why it is that they think a female character can't be "badass" or "cool" unless she can beat up people of any gender. It really isn't all that realistic. Women who are highly trained in combat do often lose fights with men of lesser skill who happen to be heavier and stronger than them. I can accept that this unsub wasn't the strongest person out there, but the flourishes in JJ's fighting were just not necessary. I like it when the team defeats the unsubs using their minds, not fists (or knees to the groin in this case). I did have several questions regarding plot holes: 1. Why weren't the guard towers properly locked in the first place? 2. Why are they trying so hard to make people dislike Beth by making her so cliche? The dialog between her and Hotch just seems so forced and insincere. 3. How did they realize there was a body underneath the crushed car? 4. How did they realize that the car belonged to the female victim (the car was really crushed up and I doubt they could see the vin number). 5. Were there other employees at that place, if so, how did they not see or hear anything? 6. Why did the team split up when looking for the unsub and his son? Didn't they learn not to do that after what happened to Reid? 7. Why didn't JJ summon the others to her when she heard the unsub? She could have quietly communicated with them so they could all go down into the basement together. 8. Why would Hotch stay at work late working on paperwork instead of going home to see Jack, and then suddenly decide to drop said important paperwork to go on an impromptu date with a woman he hadn't known for very long instead of going home to his son? 9. Why did it take Reid longer than it took me to figure out the unsub was a bartender when I had even less information than he did about the killings at that point? 10. Why was Hotch out in shorts and short sleeves in Virginia/DC area during WINTER? 11. Why did the teenagers look like they were in their late 20s? 12. Why does the conversation between Rossi and Hotch about Hotch's love life come off as silly teenage stuff instead of grown men? 13. Why didn't we get to see more of Reid touching maps? :P |

this one wasn't the greatest episode even if it's a Dunkle. The whole unsub devolving because of a traumatic family incident has been done before many times, like the truck driver losing custody of his "princess daughter" and the mom who lost her son in the car accident. It just felt like a rehash with no new twists. Yeah, the whole JJ takes on the unsub and show us how bad-a$$ she now is was so contrived. It grates on my nerves that she went down to the cellar by herself and it took forever for the others to join her when the house was so small. Talk about emasculation= so Reid better know how to do a Vulcan nerve pinch to take down a unsub since the women now are tougher than he is. Beth kept pulling the oldest tricks in the book to throw Hotch off-kilter so that was kinda ballbreaking for him. I grew up in the South Bay so it was fun to hear how all the nefarious going-ons makes Torrance and Manhattan Beach sound like a hotbed of crime!!! |

That whole scene was too annoying. Otherwise this episode didn't raise any big emotions.

suceress, some thoughts on parts of your list: 1. I just assumed that they just used a pad lock and Mike had cut it off. A pad lock was used at an old pool house that I used to attend, but then again that was years ago and you had to climb over a fence to get to the pool house. 2. Despite not giving a hoot about Hotch having a romance I do like Beth. 3. Just a guess on my part but I would assume by the amount of blood on the floor and walls of the crusher thingy. If Doug had been in the car I'm assuming there wouldn't be so much that could be seen. 4. As other victims cars were missing I'm sure they were on the lookout for her car, probably had put out an APB (or something like that). They would have known the colour of her car and may have suspected it was her car but how did they know for certain is a good question. Maybe if enough time had passed for them to send some paint chips to be analyzed, but they didn't do that. 5. The first time was at night after the place was closed. The second time I'm just assuming it was early in the morning about the time Doug would show up. I don't remember which team member said it but I thought after they found the female victim they said that probably the unsub is now going to go after the one he wants. I'm just assuming that was why Mike was there around the time Doug would show up. 6. Hah! In that very episode when they are looking for Reid, Hotch and Gideon split up in Hankel's house. I don't think they will ever learn. 7. Maybe it is just my crappy old tv but when Reid, J.J, Morgan, Rossi and Parker arrive at the bar I could only see that ear thingy on J.J and Agent Parker. Maybe J.J realized that so she didn't bother speaking into her mike. When the others realized that they weren't wearing theirs they went outside to get them and that is why it took so long for one of them to show up after they heard the gun shot. It looked to me that Morgan was wearing one by the time he went downstairs. I'm really curious if the others were actually wearing their ear piece. I definitely do not see it on my tv but it is an old big back tv. 12. Because men don't really grow up. 13. When I saw Reid bent over a map like that I instantly chuckled and thought of all the Reid/map shippers.
