I can see Reid being upset that he was so open with Prentiss and she kept things from him. I think he might be afraid to get close for fear of getting hurt again. If we think about it, his trust has been betrayed quite a bit. 1. His father betrayed him by abandoning him 2. His mother's illness betrayed him (even though he doesn't blame her) robbing him of any stability. 3. People at school betrayed his trust by tricking him and tormenting him with the goalpost incident. 4. Teachers/faculty betrayed him by doing nothing to protect him from the bullies. 7. He may have felt betrayed by Ethan for bailing out of the FBI academy after the first day. 6. Morgan betrayed him by telling Hotch and Gideon about his nightmares. 7. Gideon betrayed him by abandoning him without even speaking to him. 8. Now Hotch, JJ, and Prentiss have betrayed his trust. He opened up to Prentiss- she was the first on she told about his headaches and then she turns around and fakes her death without so much as a hint to him. JJ held him while he cried after lying to him. Hotch sat there and listened to him talking about how depressed he was and could have easily healed his pain by telling him Prentiss was still alive. I know that intellectually Reid probably understands, but emotionally I think it is hard for him to let go. At the Paley center Shemar indicated that the drama over the faked death would be done with after the second episode. I just hope that Reid does not behave unprofessionally. |

The preview for this episode does look like another episode where the focus is on the unsub. For the first time ever I was seriously considering taping the episode so that I can watch Storage Wars on A&E. Until I saw there are a couple of brief interviews at this site. One is with Shemar about some of his earlier work and one is with A.J and PB. The one with A.J and PB there's a brief clip where it looks like J.J was just told off by Reid. I'm assuming that it is from this episode. I may just watch this ep live after all.http://www.reelz.com/show/124/game-on-with-john-salley/clips/ |

Thanks for the link, Mirri. I wonder what was going on with JJ. Some people were speculating that she was upset because of something Reid said to her. |

Wow, the misogynistic torture was a bit hard to take. The best part was the family feel to the BAU team. I'm going to like the emphasis on the interpersonal stories. Snippy, PO'ed Reid was cool. Somehow I like Reid with attitude and giving a lot of lip to the team. It's like he's not going to let people pull things over him anymore. Now he'll stand up for himself even as the baby of the team. hopefully that's the end of the attitude and now we move on to the cases. |

I love love loved him being like that and the attitude towards JJ. He so reminded me of my teenage pupils. And best was we didn't have to hear "Spence this" and "Spence that" too many times... But wow, what a creepy killer that was! So innocent looking outside and so twisted inside. Reid's smile in the end made me smell though it was more MGG smile than Reid.

That whole last scene felt a bit off to me. I didn't think I was watching the characters, it felt more like I was watching the cast at one of their get togethers. I actually liked this episode more than I thought I would. I was still disappointed that so much focus was on the guest characters, though I think the actor who played Cy did a great job. I didn't particularly like the scene where the dad watches the video of his daughter's hands being put in the sulfuric acid. I love snippy Reid as well. I love that black and white checkered shirt on him. I think that is becoming a favourite of mine. The cure-all for Reid's problems seems to be a little pep talk. First Morgan curing Reid's headaches and insomnia and now Prentiss helping him get over his sense of betrayal. That's another thing that felt off to me about the cooking scene. I'm glad that Reid did finally show up at the end but would have preferred if the smile he gave at the end was smaller and maybe a bit hesitant. I hope Morgan is right when he told Emily that her being back is unresolved. While I don't want this story line to be a main focus anymore I would like to see some type of reaction or mention during the season. People don't usually get over things as quickly as they do in tv land. |

Other than some of the nice character moments, I didn't like this episode. Far too much focus on the unsub. This is the same writer that gave us the Thirteenth Step. So far both of her episodes have had very over-the-top unsubs toting video cameras and having fun while torturing/killing, incest, lack of good profiling, gratuitous violence that didn't do anything for the story at all. I don't know if is the way she writes or the directors she gets, but the scenes with the unsub lack subtlety. They don't have that cool creepy feeling from the older episodes. While I get that the acting was good in the scene where the father watches the video, I just didn't feel that the scene fit or even worked. It was not needed. I think they could have cut down on most of the scenes with Sy and just left it with more profiling from the team. I hope Reid is over his being snippy though. While Matthew does a good job, I want to see Reid remain professional. I do feel things were resolved a bit too quickly (I think it seemed rushed because they wasted so much time with Sy and showing the torture scenes-- which really didn't even disturb me at all, they just bored me). For some reason I could just tell that the 'tard voice was put on and the unsub being mentally handicapped did not work for me. I just didn't believe it. That may have been more because of his actions though. I miss when they actually used to really get into the psyche of the unsubs and figure out why they did things. The excuse for why Sy did this really didn't seem to make sense. I think the writer just thinks its cool to try to make the audience uncomfortable with incest and violence stuff. When Reid came in at the end I wondered if he took a chill pill or got laid or something bc he was in a much better mood. |
