A little caption for my slash friends here: Reid is annoyed when the priest says he won't perform the marriage ceremony for him and his beloved Morgan. |

They didn't forget Reid's headache storyline, yay for that! First I thought I wouldn't like this ep since usually cases with a gang tend to be very gross but it turned out actually quite interesting. And there were some nice moments: sleeping Reid, nervous Reid, Morgan calling him pretty boy... Poor Reid, only 5 books for a week. Prentiss' absence was dealt very shortly. And I can't believe they let Reid do the talking to unsub again! All we needed was "I swear to god" again! ![]()

Thanks for the pictures Lola! I know it was supposed to be a serious scene but I could not stop laughing when Reid was trying to talk to the unsub and the unsub thought he was saying "stab me in the neck" and the hallucinated people behind him were looking all goofy. I think Seaver got more screentime than Hotch. They had her paired with each team member this time and it didn't seem right to me. Of all the people, she should not have been out there alone with Reid. Reid needs an experienced team member to go with him places-- someone who has his back. I kept thinking that if they got into trouble, Seaver would start crying about her serial killer daddy again. I am glad that they let Reid talk to the unsub at the end though. Even though the bit where Garcia joked about Morgan feeding her strawberries was a bit off (I know they used to flirt in the past but she has a boyfriend now so you'd think it would tone down at least a little-- plus it made me think of Kevin feeding her strawberries in that one scene)-- I did still find it amusing how Morgan's solution to the missing T and N cupcakes was for them to eat more cupcakes. Other than Garcia looking at the picture and Reid's conversation with Morgan in the bathroom, I really felt like the team wasn't quite feeling the loss for some reason. Although I know Morgan was trying to comfort Reid, I felt like some of what he said was a bit dismissive. Basically he was like "You don't have a problem"-- I know those weren't his exact words.. But I guess it did make Reid feel a little better bc he was sleeping at the end. Btw, was anyone else annoyed that Morgan didn't pat Reid on the arm or back or shoulder like he used to but then he patted Seaver on the leg? WTF happened with the writers/directors? Do they have a no male/male touching/physical contact rule now? Just one little pat for old times sake would have been great... But nooooo. I think it would have added so much to that scene. I'll comment more once I get to see the episode again. |

I liked the episode, I thought it is one of the better ones so far this season. I think the writer, Janine Sherman Barrois, is improving with each episode she writes. My only complaint on first viewing is that again there was too much focus on the guest cast but I did not mind it as much this time because I enjoyed the story. I wonder if the last scene on the plane with Seaver and Morgan was a shout out to the season one episode The Popular Kids. I just saw it the other day. It's the one where Reid talks to Morgan at the beginning about not sleeping due to having nightmares about the job. In this ep when Morgan looks at a sleeping Reid I was wondering if he was remembering that conversation and thinking that our boy has grown as an agent. |

yeah, good point, Mirri, that a sleeping Reid indicates he can deal with the nightmares from the cases they see. I had wanted Morgan to talk to Reid some more about the headaches instead of to Seaver. Plus, I kept waiting for Reid to open his eyes to indicate he was fake-sleeping to throw them off. It was an OK episode but it reminded me too much of Blood Hungry mixed with Derailed. At least there was more Reid moments but it seems to be making a case for "Reid might go bonkers soon!!!!!!!" which probably will be a huge red herring anyway. I hate to always sound like a dour sour-puss every week and maybe I should just enjoy the ride but the way Reid was written this week just rubbed me the wrong way. In the attempt to milk his insecurities, his actions were out of character. The most irritating one was when he dragged his mother into the discussion about how not all schizos go on a killing rampage. Well, Reid doesn't do sweeping generalizations and he knows his facts and statistics. He would know that his mother doesn't fit in the same degree of extreme paranoia/violence/delusional thinking that Ben had. They made him be this emotional cry-baby taking every mention of schizoid variant behavior as a personal affront to him. While it makes for great acting/dramatic enhancement, it makes Reid look like he's losing control. It was weird that he kept stabbing his thigh, barely be able to speak up during the profile to the police, and say he can't focus. So is this a ploy by writers to get us that he might get thrown off the BAU for becoming too unstable?? Well, it's working. At least, we had a nice face-washing scene to make up for that deleted one. Reid has a major cleansing ritual whenever he gets insecure. Dripping wet Reid is always a good thing! And sleeping Reid is always a plus!!! We didn't really get any progress on where the headaches are going. It was a rehash to reestablish that he is still having them. He still doesn't have a definitive medical answer so I hope there will be another episode to take us further into the headaches. Otherwise, we'll be the ones with the major headaches.

I think the point of Reid's oversensitivity to the schizo thing is because he is so terribly afraid that he's developing it. His doctors are telling him his headaches are psychological and he's been having trouble concentrating so he may think that he's losing his mind. I think what he wasn't verbalizing was his fear that if he did turn schizo, that his team would fear him or think he was going to become dangerous. Or maybe deep down he is afraid (irrationally) that he would become a psycho killer. He's acting/thinking based on fear rather than logic/ration so we can't expect him to be logical or rational. I too kept waiting for him to open his eyes at the end. I half-wondered if he was dreaming that bit at the end with the unsub. I can't see them actually having used electroshock treatment. That is usually a very very last resort and even then, they usually prefer to just keep people locked up rather than use it. It can be deadly and/or have some seriously nasty side effects. Good catch on the reference to The Popular Kids. I'm trying to watch the episode again but I have to fastforward through most of the stuff with the unsub. The actor who played the unsub himself was very good but I felt that the his hallucinations were rather annoying and over the top. I wonder if Morgan talking about how he'd worry when Reid started wandering the streets was a bit of foreshadowing. What if Reid did start wandering the streets? LOL. Btw, has anyone read "Premeditated" by Robunnybot? It's a fanfic about Reid sort of losing it and killing people. The writer went to Caltech and has pretty good insight into Reid (although I think she writes him as colder and less socially adept than he really is). I don't know if it translates well for people who speak English as a second language though. Her verbiage tends to be a bit complex. I can follow it because I have a good grasp of vocabulary. I do hope that the discussion with Morgan wasn't the end to the whole headaches thing. I am still sort of hoping that it will turn out to have a legitimate medical cause and Reid will be angry that his doctors dismissed him so easily. |
