I'm still waiting for the video promo to be put up. I saw it on TV last night.
I'll sum up what I remember about it.

Hotch said that aerosolized chloroform was being used to knock the victims out so they needed an enclosed space. It cut to what looked like a taxi or just a car and a girl getting in. There was a glass barrier between the front seat and back seat (like they might have in a limo). Gas was spraying out into the back with the girl. Then the voiceover said "There is nothing as alluring as the scent of a woman" and it shows the guy sniffing something. Then I think the guy was telling the woman she was going to live forever or something. It cut to Reid saying "He's a scientist. He's experimenting" or something like that.

Hopefully Reid's knowledge of chemistry will come into play in this one, but I won't get too excited. They probably don't remember that he has a PhD in chemistry. I think that chloroform in aerosol form actually turns in to a deadly nerve toxin, but I could be wrong. Chloroform has to be maintained at a particular temperature to avoid turning in to a deadly nerve toxin. People can actually make it by mixing bleach with acetone (it is much more complicated than it sounds).

I'm guessing the "sense" has to do with smell. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to have a plot like Perfume: The Story of A Murderer in which a man killed beautiful women so he could take their bodies and try to extract the essence of their beauty (in scent form) to make the perfect perfume. I only know about it because I adore Alan Rickman and he was in it.

And here is the Youtube version of the promo. Dailymotion stuff doesn't like my ISP for some reason. It's actually longer than the version on the round table blog.

And if that link doesn't work for people in other countries, try this.

Wow, an episode that I actually enjoyed in a long while. It's amazing what a few moments of interteam levity can do to make a ho-hum script zing!!!
There is finally some humor. The writers must have listened to all the fans complaining of all the mechanical dourness of past scripts. Alas, Reid gets to be the brunt of all the "clueless about pop culture" jokes. But that's better than having him disappear so bring it on!!!
I was in suspense over how the team would find the unsub before another victim gets a soaking even tho we know who he is. Prentiss's growing paranoia was effectively heightened and now I am really curious who the mystery guy who looks like Tim Roth is.
Funniest lines- oh that was a rhetorical question! what's a Lady Gaga twitter (and funny that it's Rossi who said he'll explain it), and the cute bit about him rhapsodizing over seeing Solaris. ROTFL OK, how wouldn't had wanted to see it with him???? :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme: :meme:
The kewpie doll hair was cute. :D

I took a nap after watching the episode. I'll comment on what I remember about it.

I liked the very first part of the intro, the music and city view were neat but then it really started to drag and I felt that it was just filler and they didn't need to make the waiting with nothing really happening take so long. I was disappointed when we saw the unsub right away. I was hoping they would do what they did in the past and only show parts of the unsub's face (rather than the whole face). We could have seen just his eyes or a shot without his eyes where we only see his nose, lips, and hand as he sniffed whatever was in the vial. We could have seen only his reflection (which would have shown only his eyes) in the rearview mirror when he looked at his victims to make it creepier.
The parts with Emily really interested me. I loved how she pretended to be talking to her cat as she searched through her apartment. Although when it showed her in an apartment I was like "Wait, what happened to her brownstone? She used to live in a house with a nice kitchen". When she closed her window I was thinking "Did she lock her windows?" and then when her neighbor/friend admitted on the phone to having left the window open to let the cat out I was like "Wait, who the hell lets an indoor cat out on to a fire escape? What if the cat didn't come back?" When Emily picked up the perfume bottles I thought it was a bit of foreshadowing, and a nod to the fact that it was a sort of modernized version of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Interesting how she put the bottles on top of the windows, and then how she put the table in front of the door with a vase on it-- but wasn't there a window behind her that didn't have anything on it? I thought it was odd that she would sit somewhere with her back to a window.
The flashbacks she had confirmed what I saw in the pictures that it looked like she was being forcibly dragged, although it seems it was to keep up appearances that she was not one of them and was being taken away against her will.

Did the rest of the team even show any reactions to Prentiss telling Morgan it was none of his business (when she first came in). Also interesting that Reid said he didn't see her car when he came in-- which suggests that maybe he usually arrives to work after her.

I wonder if Reid drinking the green tea was a nod to Matthew's trip to Japan where he drank green tea while being filmed. He seemed to be feeling much better in this one. I liked that he spouted off all sorts of information and the "oh, that was a rhetorical question". LOL.
I really hope that Morgan wasn't the only one who noticed something was up with her. I also find it interesting that he said he'd been watching her for the past several days and something was wrong, yet he didn't say anything of the sort to Reid and Reid has been showing signs of something wrong for months (but maybe the changes are so gradual and subtle that he didn't notice them?)

I like that (other than the foot shots with skin cut off) there wasn't much gore and almost no violence in this one. The way they filmed the naked bodies on the platform in such a way that you could tell they were naked but couldn't see anything was well done.

WTF was with Garcia's eye makeup though? I know she likes to dress up funny and wear bright lipstick, but the eyeshadow was a little too much for some reason. It distracted me.
I don't know if it happened to anyone else, but about 25 minutes in the sound for the broadcast went out. I saw Morgan and Garcia talking on the phone but there was no sound so I couldn't tell what was going on. Finally it came back on just in time to hear Morgan saying something to Garcia that was somewhat flirtatious.
When Reid mentioned "school" I wonder if he meant college, bc what he described doing in science class didn't seem like anything in any high school science class I've heard of. (and yes, I know it is not proper to end a sentence in a prepositional phrase, but I'm being lazy).

Did anyone else wonder how the chloroform was stored and maintained at the right temperature while inside the cab? Or why the victims didn't smell like chloroform after he pulled them out of the cab? Or why, if he immersed the whole bodies it didn't ruin the smell? Not to be gross, but when people die their bowels tend to empty. So there would literally have been crap in the chemical bath (I can't remember what it was). The beakers and stuff looked cool but I very much doubt the science behind the whole thing was sound. Oh, and why did he wait until the victims were awake to submerge them? Wouldn't it have been easier (and kinder) to submerge them while they were still unconscious so they would have continued to breathe normally and not ever known what was happening? oh, the candle part looked interesting too.

I almost laughed when Reid started listing things for Garcia to look up in terms of purchases. They had to cheat on that part too. Especially since they had him buy chloroform. If he was conducting his own experiments he would know how to make his own chloroform with bleach and acetone.

The profile seemed rather weak. Despite the experiments, the guy just did not come off as very intelligent. Then they go from having him seem very cruel to suddenly seeming almost sympathetic and kind when he explained to the next victim that it would be easier on her if she just took a deep breath right from the start (again, why not just render her unconscious).

Did we even find out the guy's name? Or why he started doing this? We kept seeing flashes of laundry and stuff but we never learned if he was just obsessed with certain smells or if the smells of the women he killed reminded him of someone specific.

We barely saw any of Hotch and Rossi in this one and I was a tad disappointed at that. I mean, I get that this was supposed to be a lot about Prentiss and they only have so much time, but they really wasted time with the first few minutes and then with the long boring-as-hell car chase. The car chase lasted far too long.

When Hotch told Reid and Prentiss to go in to the place alone did anyone else think "Wait! He's got all sorts of chemicals in there-- flammable chemicals! What if he decided to torch the place or rig something to kill whoever went in?" And then poor Reid didn't get to look at the naked woman bc Prentiss covered her up. LOL.

I wonder how many people are going to complain about the fact that Morgan gave the press release. Is he the new JJ now? I know people have been complaining about how Morgan is seeming to do everything this year-- he's like SuperM(org)an. I hadn't really been bothered by Morgan being shown as competent or getting more screentime, but I did question why he was giving the press release. Hotch seems like he would be much better at that sort of thing.

The part at the end was interesting. I loved that it was Reid who called Prentiss. I really am slightly annoyed that Reid is so oblivious to something being wrong. He was normally the one in the past who did notice when something was wrong. He noticed with Elle (although he knew Elle had been through something terrible so he might have been paying extra attention). I suppose I can fanwank that Reid really did know that something was up and was thinking he could distract her and spend some time with her at the same time. How sad that she rejected him to spend time with her cat. Poor Reid. How bad would it make you feel to know that your friend would rather stay home with her cat than go to the movies with you? Plus I think Reid might have figured out she had a cat bc she would've had cat hairs on her clothes or something.

When Reid first asked Emily to go with him and she mentioned the film was 5 hours, I was thinking "Go with him! You'll be safe at the theater with him instead of waiting at home for those 5 hours worrying about someone trying to kill you!"

I thought it was very sweet when Prentiss said thank you to Reid because he was being himself and then he said something about not being able to be anyone else and she said something like "That's what I love about you". Awww. Reid almost seemed a little flustered and didn't know how to respond. I'm still fanwanking he felt something was not quite right at the end of that conversation.

Also, Reid seemed to be at the office pretty late. I wonder if he stays after work often to finish stuff up. I liked that he was getting a bottle out of the refrigerator. We know he's trying to stay hydrated.

Oh, and since when does Reid understand Russian? He had no skills in foreign languages in the past. Elle even said he was only a genius in English.. Did he get Rosetta stone and just start learning or something? Maybe he can read and understand some of the languages but not speak them (I know people like that). I don't know about this 5 hour movie, but I think I saw a version of Solaris with George Clooney (not sure if that was the right movie) and it was boring as hell. I think it had sex scenes and we ended up fastforwarding through most of it.

I wonder where Prentiss was going when she picked up her bag and cat and walked out of the apartment...

Overall I did enjoy the episode, but I didn't really get much of a sense of suspense or excitement (well, I got suspense with Emily's scenes at home-- but I knew nothing was happening to her in this episode so there was no excitement or worry).

The preview for the next episode looked rather dull.

Btw, I don't blame Reid for not knowing wtf Gaga was. If he doesn't watch TV much or spend time on pop culture things on the internet he wouldn't know.

I agree that it was funny about Rossi saying he'd tell him. I had forgotten about that.
