We lost Eva for more than an hour. God, there is NOTHING worst in life. I found unbareable the "you mean he was alive yesterday???" part. Way too cruel. I wasn't really traumatized by the episode, though. It was OK, but not enough REID!!! |

very well done episode. I was a little disapointed that we did not find out why they had kidnaped all those children. oh and yea lets just let the suspect go to the bathroom by himself there's a disaster waiting to happen. Matthew did a wonderful job. wasn't that pyscho woman the same one who played a foster mother on another episode At least Matthews hair looked good. I did feel very hurt for the parents whose son was killed the day before they found all of them.that was pretty cruel i agree with Paola on that one. Yes not enough Reid but i guess with directing and being behind the camera thats what we get. I hope they let hi direct another episode in the future.

Surely one fo the better episodes of the season. Totally Gublerfied. But I did want to know why - in fact it really bugs me that we don't know why. I mean some people just do things because they are psychotic - but as a couple doing this it makes me feel like there was a lot more to the story that we didn't get. I did like the touch at the end when he was talking to the mother and mentioned that it was the closest thing to a miracle that he's ever seen. That was a great comment. Visually and overall I loved it and am so proud of our Gube!

I thought it was a good episode. I was thrilled at the amount of Reid scenes there were. I honestly thought that he would only be in a couple of scenes. MGG was right, he did pick an amazing guest cast. A bit too amazing perhaps. One of my complaints is that a lot of the focus in this episode seemed to me to be more on the guest cast than the regular cast. I have found that they have done that too often this season for my liking. I do wish the ep was a bit creepier though. Other than that I enjoyed the episode. I'm curious to what the differences are from the episode that aired to Matthew's directors cut. |

I thought it was a good episode too. Mirri, I was happy about the amount of Reid too... there wasn't a ton, but I was expecting very little, so every time I saw him I was happy. First the cons: -I thought it was a bit silly that the unsub was able to escape with the kids in a hearse with the BAU team on the premises. Really? They wouldn't have noticed a hearse driving away? -I agree there was a lot of focus on guest stars and not much team interaction. What there was seemed almost strained: when Morgan questioned JJ about why she suddenly believed the teenager's mom, it seemed almost mean. I know Morgan is the one to challenge people when they need it, but I'm not sure about that one... -The story almost seemed like it was trying too hard to be super creepy. The "mom" and "dad" just seemed over-the-top weird to me. (You'll notice that all of the cons were problems with the story... not necessarily the directing) Now the Pros: -I thought MGG did a great job. The episode absolutely had a different feel to it than the other episodes, but wasn't completely foreign. It was new, but also not totally radically outside the tone of the show's other episodes. -I'm going to have to watch it again and listen carefully, but I remember mostly not noticing the music and just thinking that it fit overall into the tone of the show without being obvious. -The acting (especially by the guest stars) was great. Who was the mom of the girl who got kidnapped at the opening? She looked so familiar, but I can't place her. Everyone was good, even the kids. So the director must have really given them some great direction. -Spencer and the hair looked great!

Is it just me, or did Gubler really seem to want to give the ladies a lot of screentime. JJ, Emily, and Garcia all looked gorgeous. I noticed he had all 3 of them standing in the same shot and the blocking (where they are standing) formed a triangle (studies showed that in stage productions and such, having people stand in a triangle is more visually appealing to viewers). I loved JJ's blue shirt. I don't know why Prentiss was wearing almost a turtleneck but she looked very good. Hotch and Rossi had almost no screentime and I think Reid had even less. In one of the interviews Matthew did he mentioned that he tried to cut himself out if it as much as possible. I was slightly bothered that it was the mother who almost solved the case as if the BAU had been lazy or inept, but that was a problem with the writing. I also didn't know wtf the unsubs wanted with the children and there was no motivation or explanation of what they were doing. In terms of the directing, I only had a couple of gripes. In the beginning when the camera kept panning and moving I found it disconcerting. I get that it was to show that it was a busy confusing environment, but at one point it was moving too much and started to give me a headache. I have actually gotten motion sickness while watching things when the camera doesn't hold still. (I had to leave the theatre to vomit while watching The Blair Witch Project because the motion sickness was so bad. I had to cover my eyes for the rest of the movie and have my friend whisper to me what was happening. But the problem with that move was that a retarded monkey with parkinsons disease could've held the camera more still than whoever filmed that thing.) My other gripe was that as soon as they found the bad guy hanging they just walked away. Shemar got slightly more screentime than Hotch and Rossi. I wonder if there were jokes about who was going to suck up to Gubler to get the most screentime. (I think AJ won). :P According to their protocol they should have walked in and tried to get him down and see if he could be saved (so his ass could've gone to prison where he would meet people who don't like child abusers). The scene where the kid shot the bad woman looked like someone shot a pillow and was fake (it wouldn't have killed the viewers to have a teeny bit of red from blood bc that is what bullets do). I did like how the camera followed the balloon up at one point. The scenes with the families was very touching. It was interesting to see how each family was taking it and how they all got to hug each other and stuff. I felt really bad for the family who discovered their son had died only a few days before. This was not my favorite episode-- I really wanted to see more of Reid actually getting to solve something. I had hoped JJ would bring Reid to the mother's house so he could look at the data she had acquired and combine it with what they already knew about the case. I did like that JJ was showing good intuition. This was better than a lot of the other episodes this season, but I think the story and the fact that we didn't know the motivation-- we didn't really get into the minds of the killers (which is what the show is about) and that detracted from it. I didn't even notice the music (other than the carnival music at the beginning), which was a sign that it was good because it integrated so well. Sometimes I watch something and find myself distracted by the music. You know its working when the music is balanced so well that it just helps you to get the emotions and not be distracted or really notice it. It's nice to think "wow, great music" but then you are thinking about the music and not the actual scene. |

Yet they wrote a balanced story of a nightmare situation with the right amount of pathos and hope.
