Now, before you get bored, I'm going to warn you. This is rather detailed, and will adequately explain the Matrix's stance, and that of the Agents, as long as you read carefully and with interest. Once you do, you'll gain valuable insight into how it works. Some parts, however, you may already know about, but they're included to correctly detail the system After a long time of study, I have at last been able to describe exactly what goes on in the Matrix, so here it goes: The Matrix, while a program, does not exist the same way in which a computer processes. Instead, you must think of it more as an MMORG, in which every person rigged up to it or jacked into it, becomes their own entity, and occupies their own space. They are pieces of code, that move in a draughts like fashion. They can only move to a new area code of the Matrix by being near to it. In other words, once they're in, they occupy a space on the terrain code, and can only occupy other areas by 'physically' moving there, which is why people cannot teleport, or occupy other people's spaces. Now, people who are rigged up are effectively part of the whole of the program, and can by manipulated by the system because they depends on it entirely. It is why, like with Neo, their physical appearance can be changed by the system. Those that are jacked in, however, occupy their own space within the Matrix within different boundaries. They have hacked in to the system, which is why the ships in the real world need to move within range of the system in order to connect. They are, effectively, viruses, and cannot be manipulated by the system in any way. Instead, the anti-virus' (The Agents) have to specifically target and kill the jacked in people. Because they are their own selves, the system cannot keep track on them, and must rely on those that feed information to the Matrix (unplugged) to be able to locate the viruses, then send Agents to jump to where they're needed. Humans in the Matrix occupy a space by BOTH their minds and code. Agents occupy a space by code only, and as a result, cannot exist on their own. They are forced to occupy host bodies, and this is simply a manipulation of the system, which is why they cannot enter the jacked in people, or manipulate them in any other way. Agents cannot manifest themselves, because the system is based on rules. And those rules mean that a physical entity MUST be represented by a space filled by a mind. (The exceptions are exiles, who are effectively their own program, but have a different makeup to that of Agents, which is why they cannot be manipulated by the system, can 'die', and occupy their own space rather than that of a human. Exiles are, like humans, viruses, and must be targeted specifically). Because the Agents are themselves and not themselves at the same time, it causes a dispute over exactly who they are. The answer is that they are completely themselves, BUT rely on a mind to occupy a place. It is because of this, they're able to exist within their own boundaries (of smashing through walls, immense speed etc) while inside an effectively limited host body. To understand, you must think of an Agent as nothing but an Agent. Not a host, just an Agent. The host, while playing an important part, plays an equally unimportant part, in that it does not aid the Agent in anyway, and serves ONLY as a space that the Agent can occupy in the system, because the Agents must abide by the rules of the system, which only allows occupied space to be pyhsical, and that they must physically move from place to place to get around. It is because of this, that Agents cannot be damaged. They have no bones to break, they have no organs to harm and they are not alive to be killed. The host has been TOTALLY taken over by the Agent program, and thus the damage registered is 'saved', and WILL NOT affect the Agent, but WILL affect the host once the Agent leaves. After all, they are still in that space, they are still taking the damage, and they will still exist once the Agent leaves. This is why they can smash through walls unharmed, can be beaten and not die, because unless you pierce the code with something sharp, it will not register as a lethal attack to the Agent. When something happens that would kill a person, it is able to kill the Agent, because once the relay from the mind of the human is destroyed, the Agent cannot exist there. Unpluggeds register as themselves, and when they are killed in the Matrix, they die in the real world. When they die, their feed shuts off, because they no longer have a mind that relays to the Matrix, so can no longer be manipulated by it as such. This is why, on death, their bodies are still there, but only as husks of code, which have to continue to exist by Matrix law. Without a live input, there is nothing to relay back, and that is why they can no longer be manipulated. In short, think of the Matrix as an MMORG, where you're simply a player, where you can only do what the game parameters allow you. But as you advance in skill levels, you gain access to new abilities, and claw past the low level players (the unplugged) and are able to amaze them with your superior abilities, neat clothes, and seemingly endless supply of weapons ![]() I'm confident I haven't missed anything out, but if I have, let me know and I'll put it in. |
