[Taken from Historical file 12-1 "The Second Renaissance." The Zion archives only has a small amount of information relating to the point of history when the Machines took the fight to the Humans and created the Matrix in order to enslave them.] What is understood is that the downfall of mankind was they're own doing. With the creation of sophisticated AI and the dawn of the Second Renaissance, Mankind was at its peak and the reliance on machines was absolute. Whilst The human population wallowed in it's own self importance, the machines carried out all the menial tasks from domestic servitude to Large scale construction. According to Zion records, sometime between 2060 and 2070, a Dometic robot with the ID code B166ER was threatened by it's owner. In an act of self defence B166ER murdered his Master and the mechanic hired to destroy it. The Incident was taken to court and B166ER was found not guilty on the grounds that it was self defence and atyt robots should deserve the same rights as humans. This single act was the turning point and everything that followed led to the creation of the Matrix [Explained later] The Leaders of the world disagreed with this ruling and began a programme to systematically destroy every humanoid robot in existance. Across the world riots and other civil disturbances erupted as robots and human sympathisers tried to fight the programme. Ultimately the programme was a partial success, with the majority of the robot poulation becoming scrap. Those that were spared or escaped fled to an uninhabited area believed to be located somewhere in the Middle East where they founded a nation of their own. At it's centre they built the city which later became known as Zero-one or "01" A thriving industrial centre springs up from this new nation and the Machines begin to efficiently mass produce many high tech cunsumerables. This production before long threatens to undermine The economies of the world. This action causes the security council to call an economic summit of the United Nations who decide that an ecomomic blockade of Zero one is requiered. During this summit a pair of ambassadors from Zero-one arrive with peacful intentions to apply for admission for the Machine nation to join the UN. Despite they're peaceful conduct and intention, it was ordered that they be forcibly removed from the room and that their request for admission be rejected. The next debate on the agenda for considerstion is the proposal of a war against the machine nation. The case for war was accepted and the machine city was attacked from the air. Whilst the city was destroyed, it's inhabitants survived and retailiated by invading neighbouring countries. This sparked a Third world war in which the machine nation of Zero one unleashed its armies. The machines gained foothold after foothold and the armies of the United Nations were pushed further and further back into their dwindling Territories. The MIlitary Leaders looked to more and more Desperate methods to turn the tide. This premise cased "Operation Dark Storm" to be fomulated and exucuted. High alttitude bombers dispersed a Sky darkening Nano machine created by Zero one before the war, whilst Ground Troops simultaneously Launched an all out offensive. The plan is initially a success despite the majority of the Human armies weaponry (Manufactured by the factories of Zero-one). In final Desperation, Mankind launched the remnants of it's nuclear arsenal directly at Zero-ones troops. Sadly it was not enough and the blasts damage large tracts of land are rendering these areas uninhabitable to both sides. In response to this The Machines launched they're most deadly offensive. Biological weapons are released which devestate the worlds population. In the year 2092 Man was beaten and the worlds security council called a final meeting in order to begin peacetalks with the machines. An Ambassador from Zero-one arrived and did indeed sign a peace treaty. However the the ambassador was a final strike by the machine nation. The explosion caused by the integrated bomb present within the ambassdor destroyed the human city of New York and killing most of the worlds human Leadership. THe machine army marched on a leaderless human armies and defeated them. but it was a hollow victory. The devastation to the worlds ecosystem caused by the war caused the machines to search for a new power source. They found the answer in the shattered remains of te human population. The powerplants were built and the captured humans were interred in order to power them. The creation of the first Matrix followed. |
