The street was bustling with people; teens coming home from school, adults running late for work, and children darting through the crowds in games of tag or hide and seek. Taiwan felt so very out of place in such an active place. She was quite obviously a rarity here in the boundaries of Germany's country- after all, this wasn't a place many asians chose to visit. The stares and odd glances thrown her way caused her to flush and stare at the ground, hair sliding over her shoulders to shield her face. It reminded her very much of when she had been here last, visiting Prussia after the wall had fallen... But then, no one had seemed to care about her presence, too busy finding loved ones... and she had been too frantic to have cared. Her fingers tightened around the little chick-shaped box in her hands, and at that very tangible reminder of what she was about to do, her heartbeat started to race and her breath hitched in her throat, tearing her from her melancholy reminiscing and bringing a hot flush to her cheeks. It took every bit of her willpower not to turn around right that instant and run until she reached the safety of home. But no. She had stayed up for nights, planning out what she would say and making these damned specialized chocolates. She'd had to take a ship and three trains to get here, which had taken hours upon hours. There was no way she was going to bow out now. Her spine straightened and her strides lengthened, teeth sinking into her lower lip. Today was it- it was now or never, because she couldn't stand seeing his face one more time and having to bite back the words she so desperately wanted to say. She'd even changed her normal clothes for a more formal, full Qipao, still with her signature lace and oversized sleeves, but a more gentle blue instead of peach, with small tendrils of gold embroidered along the left side of the flared skirt. She was more mature than she was when they first met, but still... this was a special occasion, and wouldn't any girl want to look and feel pretty for something like this? And then suddenly there it was as she turned a corner off of the main street- Germany's house. And, of course, the house where Prussia was staying. By the time she got up to the door, she was nearly hyperventilating, and she pressed one hand to her chest as she forced her breathing to even out. Her throat was dry and she was sure her face was as red as the tomato she'd had with dinner last night. When she felt sufficiently calm- with the exception of her breakfast roiling unhappily in her stomach and her face feeling hot enough to fry an egg- she lifted a hand and tentatively rapped on the door, so different than when she'd pounded frantically at the wood years ago as she prayed that Prussia was alright... She stuffed her hands and the box of chocolates into her large sleeves and took a few steps back, prepared to wait. In this stance, her trembling was barely noticeable... she hoped. |

Several dogs barking could be heard on the other side of the door the moment Taiwan's fist touched the door. The barks were loud and excited, though not at all threatening. A loud 'thump' was heard as something slammed into the door, followed by the unmistakable voice of Prussia, sounding as if he were trying not to laugh. "Mille! Silly dog, get away from the door! It won't open if you tackle it like that..." Shuffling was heard and two more barks joined the first, mixed with laughter. "Alright, alright! Calm down, all of you! Kulbart, go back into the kitchen and finish your food! Waren, go... annoy West, or something. Mille, get away from the door!" Several minutes later, the door finally opened, revealing a slightly disheveled looking Prussia. His Prussian blue uniform had been discarded for something a little more casual, the front buttons of the shirt almost completely undone in favour of trying to cool down from the warm weather. Behind him, sitting quietly, was the obvious form of a large wolf, it's head just above Prussia's hip while sitting. Crimson eyes that matched his master's perfectly stared at Taiwan, unblinking, for several moments before returning to his master. It hadn't barked once since the knock on the door, and just from it's movements and posture, it was obvious the wolf was obedient and undoubtedly loyal to Prussia rather than Germany. "Taiwan...?" the albino called, surprise evident in his voice. "What are you doing here?" He glanced over his shoulder, whistling sharply and sending the three dogs that had been trying to edge back toward the door running back where they came form. "Sorry, those are West's dogs. They're sweet and all, but can be nosier than France..." Gesturing to the large wolf beside him, he grinned. "That's Adler, found him when he was a pup. Awesome, huh? West thinks he's gonna snap one of these days and eat the other three, but he's a good boy." He paused, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly before saying in a quiet tone, "Do you, uh... wanna come in?" When the door opened, Meimei promptly forgot how to breathe. Sure, she was all about the fashion, but she was still fairly reserved about what the fashions in her nation showed. But this... She tore her eyes away from the sight of Prussia's chest peeking through the unbuttoned shirt, her throat suddenly dry, pulse picking up instantly. "Th-that is a-alright," she said, eyes on the wolf. It was very... interesting. A little scary looking, to be honest, but if it was Prussia's, she wouldn't worry too much about it. Eccentric though the older nation may have been, he wasn't suicidal. "H-he's b-beautiful, hau..." Peeking up through her eyelashes at him, she forced her eyes to stay on his face as she shook her head shyly. "Ah, n-no th-thank you, I..." But all of her carefully prepared words had completely flown out of the proverbial window of her mind, and she made a small, frustrated sound. There were several long moments of silence, and she huffed, pulling the box of chocolates (painstakingly shaped into elegant letters spelling "You are awesome" and below that "I love you") our of her sleeve and shoving it into his hands. "I-just-wanted-to-give-you-this-and-say-that-I-love-you!" The words came in a nearly unintelligible rush, and, mortified, she instantly turned and fled. That wasn't what she had planned, but she couldn't just stand there and wait for him to unravel what she had said, if he could. The chocolates would say it all, she reassured herself as she slowed to a halt a few streets away, ignoring the odd looks from the few pedestrians. Inhaling deeply, she leaned her head back against the wall of the building she stood near, pressing the heels of her palms against her eyes. "S-stupid..." Edited by Ishikawa, Aug 28 2009, 10:09 AM.

Prussia's eyes sparkled in faint delight at Taiwan's compliment, reaching down to scratch behind the wolf's ears. Pride radiated off his slender figure as if she'd just complimented him rather than the wolf and he knelt down, wrapping an arm around the dog's stomach as if putting an arm around a friend's shoulder. "Isn't he? He's strong too! He could out-run West's dogs any day. Adler is as awesome as I am!" As he raised his gaze to meet Taiwan's again, he was met with, what looked like, a small chick box. He blinked and threw his hands up to catch it, nervously looked between Taiwan and the package, as if expecting it to suddenly explode in his hands. Frick. This isn't going to be like Hungary, is it? It isn't going to hurt me, right? It isn't poisoned? Oh man... So, so, SO not awesome. "I--huh? Hey! Taiwan! What-!?" The albino watched, confused, as the young brunette sputtered something he couldn't understand and ran for it. He blinked, giving Alder a questioning look as he tilted his head to the side. "Did you... catch that?" The wolf whined softly and nudged Prussia's side, almost pushing the silverette out the door. Gilbert pushed the wolf's head away and stood up, shaking his head. "...I didn't think anyone could retreat faster than Feliciano." Shutting the door, the albino turned, nearly getting barreled over as Germany's dogs as they all started jumping toward the box. "Wh--hey! Calm down...! Hey! WEST! GET IN HERE AND CALM YOUR DOGS DOWN!" What the heck is going on? They've never ignored my orders before... |

Ludwig came from the kitchen into the front hallway of his home and gave Prussia an annoyed look. “What are you doing to my dogs, Brüder? Is that beast of yours annoying them.” He gave Alder a mock scowl. Actually, he was rather fond of his brother’s wolf, but didn’t like to admit it. He clicked his fingers, and his dogs scampered over to him. He knelt down and roughhoused and played with his puppies, until they calmed down a little, before looking up at his brother. “I thought I heard the door. Do we have guests? Or did your stupid wolf scare them away again” He looked at the colourful box that Prussia held in his hand. “A delivery then? From who?” (Oh my god that was short. Next one will be better, as Germany will know what is going on.) |

"Adler isn't a beast!" Prussia retorted, looking as if Germany had just insulted the albino himself. "He's just as much apart of this family as your silly mutts--and don't tell me they're not. Because they are. Unlike awesome Alder here, they're all mixes. Adler is pure wolf with nothing else mixed in. And he's awesome." Giving Alder another affectionate scratch behind the ears, the elder brother stepped forward, tossing Germany the box, knowing he'd catch the box before the dogs went for it. "And... I don't know. It's from Taiwan. She gave it to me in a flustered mess and ran for it... I don't know how she ran that fast. She was in some new clothes, they looked a bit fluffier than her normal ones. Pretty awesome that she could run like that though. She tried to tell me something before she left, but she was talking too fast for me to understand." Thinking about it... Gilbert thought, scratching the back of his neck, still showing no care as to the fact his jacket and shirt were almost completely open in the front. She looked... really cute. "I like the wrapping, though..." Prussia laughed, pointing to the design and shape. "Looks like those little birds that keep following me around. Of course, I am awesome. Can't blame them for wanting to stalk me." |

Germany mock sighed. “Gilbert, I’ve told you this before. Alder might be pure wolf, but sadly, he is pure stupid wolf. His parents were clearly stupid, and he is clearly even stupider. Perhaps there was a smart puppy in his litter, but he was not it. He takes after you in that regard.” He grinned at his brother, who would be looking outraged, as usual, and then looked down at his dogs with great affection. “Whereas my babies are crossbreeds, with all of the physical and mental benefits that come from diversity, aren’t you, Milli?” He said with a smile, as he rubbed his dog’s head. “And you, Kulbart, and Waren” He petted each dog in turn. Ludwig caught the box that Prussia threw to him with ease, and held it up high enough so that the dogs couldn’t get to it. “Meimei was here? Then why didn’t she come in?” He asked, puzzled. He looked at the box with interest. The wrapping was simply exquisite. Much time and care had been taken in this gifts presentation . “You didn’t open it? She came all this way, and you didn’t open it? I think it is chocolate. That would explain why the dogs are so excited. Do you mind if I-” He asked, and after what he took to be an indifferent shrug from Prussia, he carefully peeled up on edge of the wrapping paper, and slowly eased the box out. He looked at it. His eyes went very, very, wide. “Meimei gave this to you, East?” He looked up at his brother from the box, slowly, pushing the gift back inside and closing the edge again. “She gave this to you? And you said… what? What did you do, Gilbert?” He listened again, with his full attention now, and his expression become one of appalled exasperation. He closed his eyes, and tried not to scream. Not even his brother could be this obtuse... Could he? “Gilbert… Look at me. I’m serious. Look at me.” Germany stood in front of his brother, and waited till he did so, until they were looking each other eye to eye, and not moving. Then, with sudden speed, he brought his empty hand up fast, and clipped his brother’s ear. “You… Dummkopf!” He hadn’t felt this annoyed with his brother in quite a long time. “A beautiful young lady, a lady who has never shown you anything but kindness, concern, and affection, whether you deserved it or not arrives out of the blue, and gives you this:” He held Taiwan’s gift up in front of Gilbert’s eyes. “A beautiful gift. Whose wrapping, yes, matches your little chicks, no doubt it took her a long time to find one which does just that, no? But still. She hands you her gift. Her beautifully presented gift, she has come many miles to give to you. And what to you do? Not only do you not open her gift, no, not only this, but you JUST LET HER LEAVE? DUMMKOPF!” He said, very nearly shouting into his brother’s face. He pushed the gift into Prussia’s hands. “Open it East. Now.” |

"Wh... What do you mean, 'What did you say to her'!? I barely got a word out between opening the door and her running like Russia was at her heels--and so help me, West, stop insulting Adler! He's smarter than your dogs, that's for sure! He could take all three any day. He's that awesome!" Crossing his arms stubbornly, Gilbert fixed his younger brother with a small glare, obviously offended at the idea that he might have possible, somehow, acted like an idiot. "I invited her in, but she seemed to jumpy to do anything. She just threw the box at me, said something I couldn't understand and ran. I--OUCH!" A loud growl of protest could be heard from Adler's throat as Germany's hand connected with Prussia's head. The wolf barked sharply and stepped forward, only to stop when the albino snapped softly, muttering a quick, 'Down boy.' "What the frick was that for, West!? I didn't do anything criminal! I just invited her into the house and you're acting like I punched her or something! I--Geez, alright, alright... I'll open it. You've got some issues you need to work out, West. Seriously. No wonder you haven't gotten laid yet. Your anger is no better than a... bomb..." It only took a few seconds for the full effect of the chocolates to set in, before the albino's creamy pale skin quickly darkened, turning a shade of crimson that put his ruby eyes to shame. "...Oh," he muttered lamely, giving the chocolate's a wide-eyed look. "O-Oh... Holy..." For the first time in years, Gilbert was rendered completely speechless. He leaned against the front door for support as he ran a hand through his short silver hair slowly. "She... me? Mein Gott..." The hand holding the lid to the box fell to his side limply as he stared at the message before him, still unable to speak properly. Next to him, Adler was sniffing the lid, poking it with his nose before he began to paw at the door, whimpering. Glancing toward his companion, Prussia nodded, straightening himself before shoving the chocolates into Germany's hand, pulling two of them before muttering, "Hold these, West." The door was thrown open and the two albino's darted out, Prussia shouting something to the wolf about 'track her scent' and in seconds they were both gone from sight. It shouldn't take long. She can't have gotten that far. Not in this crowd--damn, it's sunny. I'm so gonna burn for this, but... Shit. Come on, Adler... find her fast. Prussia's thoughts ended quickly as Alder barked sharply and turned a corner, letting out a small yelp of triumph. "Adler! Don't bark in public! You'll--Taiwan! Meimei! Wait!" |

“Finally.” Ludwig sighed, relieved, and watched his brother turn a shade of dark red. Gilbert leant against the door for support. He looked away from brother, and towards Alder, who was already pawing at the door. “You are right, I do owe Alder an apology. Comparing the two of you was unfair; he is clearly the cleverer one.” He leant forward, just a little. “East. Why are you still here?” He took the box of chocolates from his brother without further comment, and watched Prussia move around in a fluster that was quite unlike him. He felt relieved. It was, actually, a good sign. For a second, he felt about reassuring his brother not to be nervous, and then reconsidered. If he said that, his brother might get defensive, and they really didn’t have time for that. His brother ran out of the door, and into the street. “Don’t talk about yourself all the time! Talk about her! Tell her nice things. She doesn’t need to hear how you’re awesome again!” He called out; standing on the doorstep, watching after his brother and hoping at least some of what he said would sink in. He watched until Gilbert was completely out of sight. He hoped for the best. He probably wasn’t the best person to be giving his elder brother advice, but… he was pretty much all East had. “Hopefully, not for much longer though.” He thought with a smile to himself. “…Don’t mess this up, Brüder. Don’t’ run away from her. She’d be good for you.” He patted Milli on the head. “Come on, babies. I’m nervous too. But watching won’t do us any good.” He said, and went back inside. After her breath had calmed and her flush settled back into her normal rich skin tone, Taiwan spent several moments just leaning against the brick wall she'd stopped to rest against, silently watching people pass by. It was... relaxing, and she found her mind drifting, away from the painfully humiliating reality of how badly she'd botched her own confession. But in the end, her feet began to ache in her low heels and the sun became a little too warm for her skin under the layers of her outfit, and she pushed away from the wall, continuing back in the general direction of the train station at a much more sedate pace. She kept imagining that someone called her name, that she heard loud footsteps behind her... but when she turned back to look, it was just her imagination. With a self-conscious smile, she shook her head. Wishful thinking wasn't really her style- she liked to deal with reality as it was. And Prussia chasing after her... well, that wasn't it. Or, so she thought until a solid weight brushed the back of her legs and she stumbled, whirling around to see what had run into her only to land on the ground as her legs tangled in her voluminous skirts. She let out an undignified yelp as she fell, and groaned. Today... really wasn't her day. Rubbing the palm that had scraped the ground in an attempt to control her fall, she looked up... And all traces of irritation left her face in favor of pure shock. "P-prussia!?" If he had chased after her- hunted her down- whatever, then obviously there was an answer to her unspoken query waiting and at the thought of potential rejection, the idea of just not knowing seemed a lot more appealing. Frantically, she searched for something, anything, to distract him from whatever he was going to say. And there it was- the sun, shining bright down on Prussia, in all of his albino glory. "Oh! Th-the sun, y-you'll b-b-burn!" Standing, Meimei quickly unbuttoned the top of her Qipao, glad that she'd layered (as always) today. The blue, long-sleeved top came off and she threw it over Prussia's head, and then pulling his still unbuttoned shirt closed. She paid no attention to the stares this act gathered, though her arms did erupt in goosebumps at the utterly unfamiliar feel of air on her bare arms. But she couldn't think about that as she pulled her hands away from Prussia's now-buttoned shirt, looking up at him through her bangs warily. |
