Section 1: Behavior 1a) Do NOT flame or troll Flaming is "an online argument that becomes nasty or derisive, where insulting a party to the discussion takes precedence over the objective merits of one side or another". Basically, getting into a mudslinging argument. Trolling is where a user tries to coax other users into flaming. Flaming will get you suspended, constant flaming and/or trolling will most likely get you banned. 1b) Keep outside disputes outside If someone is harassing you over AIM/MSN, this is not the place to get a solution. We cannot deal with anything outside of MachineMosh. Likewise, don't let outside arguments boil over into MachineMosh. Section 2: Posting habits 2a) Do NOT SPAM Spamming is the act of posting messages that have little relevance or point, especially to the topic at hand. If you keep posting offtopic replies, or advertisements to your site outside of the , you'll be banned. 2b) Don't multipost Make your topic once, and use the edit function instead of a new reply if you want to add something to a post you just made. 2c) Don't steal bandwith If you really need to post a large image, put it on your own hosting first, or ImageShack. Don't hotlink images from someone else's Photobucket account or web hosting. 2d) Please keep your postings in the relative boards Put your game reviews in the game forum, for example. We have multiple boards for a reason. 2e) Don't bump old threads without reason Generally, threads should stay dormant/dead if nobody has made a reply after a month. 2f) Only embed when necessary Posting embeds of MP3s and YouTube videos without reason or warning in the thread title will result in your posts being edited, and if this is a constant problem, you will be banned. Remember: we have users still on dial-up. Also, don't forget you can link to the relevent YouTube in your post instead of embedding it. 2g) Please try to proofread your message before posting Having a clear, well-written post will make it easier for everyone else to read and respond to your message. So before you press the "Submit" button, please double check your post for any spelling or grammar problems, and please try not to use any "netspeak". 2h) Look for existing threads first Many threads with topics like "lol look at this youtube video" can be fit into another, existing thread. Look for them, they're usually stickied so they appear on the top of the thread list all the time. 2j) Do not advertise The only place your can advertise your website is in your signature and your profile, posting a topic for your website will get it locked. Section 3: Content Restrictions 3a) No explicit content without warning No adult-oriented material is allowed without warning others ahead of time in the thread title or similar. This includes any form of pornography or nudity. This also includes textually explicit postings. Posting explicit content for no reason or purely for the sake of offending others will result in a PERMANENT IP BAN from MachineMosh! 3b) No illegal material No illegal material can be posted. This includes warez (illegal software), cracks (edits to software to make them fully functioning), and ROMs. Emulators, freeware/homebrew ROMs, and .IPS patches are fine to post. Posting any illegal material will result in a PERMANENT IP BAN from MachineMosh! 3c) No advertisement outside of your signature Do not make a thread or a post dedicated solely to advertising your (or another's) website. Please leave that stuff in your signature. Section 4: Guidelines for Specific Areas MachineMosh 4a) Please, read the FAQ before posting! FAQ stands for "Frequently Asked Questions", and your question is most likely already answered in the FAQ on this site. This will save both the other users here from a hassle, and get you an answer much sooner. 4b) Spam and Game forums are NOT the focus of this site Don't post exclusively in those forums. It does not make you look good at all. They are there to allow users to unwind a little, not vomit mass amounts of crap posts. Section 5: Your Profile 5a) Avatars can't be bigger than 100x100 pixels AND/OR 300KB Large images (dimension-wise) as avatars wreck havoc with the board layout, so they are not allowed. Large images (file size-wise) are also not allowed, as it increases the load time for users on slower internet connections. If your avatar is too big, it will be removed. If you keep adding it back, you will probably be banned. 5b) Do NOT make your post layout an eyesore If you can't read your posts with your layout, chances are nobody else can. Post Taboos: These activities are not heavily looked upon on the forums, and posting those won't get you in trouble with the admins, but the members don't appreciate. -Contentless and stupid posts (4chan memes, anything nonsensical) -Inappropriate grammar (“u” instead of “you”, etc – won’t be punished, but users will look down on you for it) - Double posting (if by mistake, inform a mod so it can be deleted) -Bumping old topics (more than three weeks old), or bumping a topic to keep it at the top of the forum index. -Begging for material - “Namedrop” threads (making a thread directed at a specific user that could’ve been done in a private message) - “Diary”-esque threads (content that could have been better served in a private blog. Mods have the final say here) -Quoting the person directly above you, or quoting a very large post without selectively editing it Note: The admins have the rights to update the rules anytime they want, and we are allowed to ban members for anything else that we can consider innapropriate. |
