Other Discussion- Music

Well, I was thinking, becuase music will become and integral part to our movie and the movie making process, why not openly discuss song choices for the appropriate scenes- or just songs in general. Music, generally, determine the mood of a situation and appear as ambient sound in the background- as a simple statistic, there have been no broadways or movies elevated to 'classic movie' status that haven't incorporated music. As a matter of fact, most of the critically acclaimed, and publicly acclaimed movies are musicals. With this in mind, I hope to further establish a more concrete method of choosing our music.

Remember, music can be the primary reason and inspiration for a particular scene, and often times movie makers base parts of their scenes around what their orchestra can do rather than making their orchestra fit their scene.

My Requested Music-
While I do not expect you to listen to all of them, or even any of them, here are some of my suggestions for different kinds of music to use-

Thanks for all the suggestions. :] I listened to them all.

Though Emily and I had already compiled a fairly complete list of music we were going to use for key scenes. You have to keep in mind - most of the music we'll be using will be playing behind the characters' dialog, therefore, in order for the audience to not have to strain their ears to make out what people are saying, the music would almost have to be instrumental.

This is a copy of a conversation Emily and I had over Facebook, detailing the music we had thought would be good for specific scenes:

EDIT: This is what we're using for the rooftop scene which opens and closes the movie, though this song will only be used for the beginning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KEEXyRL0qE

1) http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/289139

"Hamlet's Ophelia" - This is the one I thought would be good for when MacBeth finds out his girlfriend broke up with him, by letter or whatever. I figured since this is really when MacBeth becomes a tyrant, in the beginning of the song he'll be visually hurt by the news, and towards the end of the song he's over it. This is the shift to where he cares abouti nothing but preserving his reign. (We could show it by him throwing his ring out the window... or shredding the letter... or something. We can figure it out later.) You can download the song by clicking button with the floppy disk on it in the box that says "licensing terms".

2) http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html?keywords=long+road&Search=Search

"Long Road Ahead" - This one I was thinking would be good for the scene we were talking about where Lady MacBeth is sitting in her new home and begins to feel guilty, and eventually, disgusted. There're two versions, A and B. The only difference is that A has a powerful finale. If we use A, then the ending can be her actually deciding to leave. You can listen to them by clicking "preview" (obviously), and the link to download is right there.

3) http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html?keywords=Private+Reflection&Search=Search

"Private Reflection" - I just thought this one sounded good for the scene where MacBeth actually does whatever he does to become CEO. Sounded dark and uncertain. If we needed the scene to be longer, we could loop the song, too.

4) http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html?keywords=Arcadia&Search=Search

"Arcadia" - This was the one I thought'd be good for the 'homeless man encounter'. lol. Just because I pictured him kind of as a crazy old soothsayer type, and this song seems like it would convey that sense of unreality that would go with a magic hobo. ...This scene would be really cool if it were snowing... but that'd be pretty tough in Texas... Maybe a light drizzle... Idk, just seems like it would be cool, if we could do it. This is another song that we'd probably have to loop, because it's probably going to be a fairly long scene, since it's one of the most important.

5) http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html?keywords=Frost+Waltz&Search=Search

"Frost Waltz (Alternate)" - I'm not positive we'd use this one, but I figured it would work well in the scene following MacBeth's homeless man encounter, when he discovers that his fate is conforming to his prophecy. The song carries that same air of mystery and wonder as the one before it, and is creepy enough to invoke the feeling that MacBeth no longer has control. (And we could reinforce this with shots of things changing around him, like his name being nailed to the door of his new office, people giving him passing looks, painting over the old VP's parking space, etc.)

I guess we'll know if we need more songs when we start writing the script. Let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas about these songs or the scenes, or if you think any other songs would be better/good for something else. :]

Though, I did look into Metric when you suggested their stuff in the Storyboard topic, and I liked Help I'm Alive (Acoustic)
