I have a radio guru at my disposal, and he is currently unloading some of his units. He has about 5 radios to sell and from what I can tell (im no expert) he is selling these radios at a pretty good deal, I got a General AP hill from him that has already been DOCTORED a bit for less than $200. I can get a new one for around the same , but it will not have the mods that makes them reach a bit further and better. If anyone is interested in one let me know and ill put you in touch with him. We also just got a base station from him for $200 as well. Havent set it up yet but will soon. He also has amps, power mics etc. Check his price against new to be sure your gettin a good deal, but he has done us pretty good so far. He also will help with setting them up mobile or base at no charge if needed. |

I am getting really excited about this and learning more at the meeting. This is an area in which we are seriously lacking and without the knowlege and equipment, I feel very vulnerable. |

know what you mean, the idea is to get EVERYONE linked in a communications network, for our people. I know the A@M has a call tree network, but Id like to get the same thing for our members to communicate between ourselves, If bad things go down (remember katrina), then we will be able to keep everyone in touch. And if we can keep every one informed, then we can help each other out no matter if theres power, phones or not. 10 Meter is something I know very little about, but am trying to learn. It seems it would suit our needs, But there seems to be a lot more to it than I figured. |

If starting from scratch..... First purchase a set of GMRS radios. Then a good CB radio capable of county wide communication. Next get a short wave. This is a listen only radio but will pull in stations all over the world. If possible.... finish out your comms with a HAM radio if possible. Sometimes it is more important to hear what is happening on a radio than talking on one. |

I guess you could say over here, we are just past "scratch". |

A common CB radio will NOT do the job for a whole county. We need more of an expert than me on this but you need at best a CB that does SSB and AM. It should be modded to push some extra power also. |

The guys are getting some great "milage" from their radio's here. It can be done. Talking house to house. If one cannot raise a team member on the CB.... I guess that would mean ones team is spread out too far.... and/or there are too few members in that area. Time to roll up the sleeves and get more members and a good radio. With multiple members in a county... the CB radio will work fine. |

We are getting about 50 miles on cb so far, if in someones area they arent able to reach the contact they desire then they should attempt a call circle or whatever you want to call it, the idea isnt for everyone to be able to reach out and touch EVERYONE, but to form a chain that can be passed along from one contact to another, -----PROVEN---A mobile cb unit on a good stationary antenna can be a good center hub for an area, and not a ton of money has to be invested, and when you need to go mobile, take the unit out to your vehicle, plug it up and go. We dont want folks to see an unreachable goal of spending a lot of money on a super duper radio set-up, if someone can, then thats better, but for us poor folks, we are not left out, we just have to work a little harder to get where we need to be. CB is working very well in our area so far, estimated cover area with the pass-along system is covering three counties, so far, and no one has spent over a few hundred dollars at the most expensive system in our circle. IT CAN BE DONE even on a budget. |
