To make the pemmican, you need the rendered suet, some thoroughly dried berries without sugar, and the shredded jerky, as well as some glass jars or small mylar bags.
( note: BD does not used MYLAR by choice, because high-fat foods draw dioxin, which is toxic and carcinogenic, from the plastic into the food; but I know glass jars are not as portable.--suggestion is made to use leather parfleches)

The classic directions for pemmican say to pound the jerky, and mix manually with the fat (Native Americans were fond of bear grease for this) and the berries. BC personally suggest you get a higher-quality and also more concentrated product if you pack your jars with the meat and berry mix, then slowly pour in hot streams of melted suet; press down with a fork, to help out any remaining air; and let cool. After it cools, put another tiny layer of pure suet on top. It makes an airtight seal. Then cap and store, making sure to wipe the jars well with a damp towel if you've dripped at all.

It is good to label batches with the date, and any variables, like whether you left out the berries or added a bit of salt or even maple syrup or honey (which I have read of but never tried).

In storage efforts, you may want to keep your dried fruit separate, so that you can better use the pemmican in soup or chili (add to dehydrated beans and chili spices that you have brought in a ziploc, for some variety).

There are recipes sharing making patties and cook them; I would think you'd need to add hot water and mix, then let stand to let it get "meaty" again, first.

It is good simmered with a little corn meal or acorn/oatmeal and water;

The main thing to remember is that, though there are many steps to making pemmican, you end up with a superior food that stores indefinitely; and you can work on it in stages.

BC has been been doing something or other for pemmican, including picking blueberries, all summer long!!!
