For new people... You have seen a number of "Emergency Seed Stock" advertised. Some costs are in the range of $125 for one year of heirloom seeds. Here is a hint. Got to your local COOP and you will find a selection of non hybrid seeds that will meet your needs and no guessing if they will work in your area. Cost? 3 years of heirloom seeds for $45..... |

If anybody has any ideas on how to dry and save seeds from our crops in such a manner they will for sure be useable for the next year, I'd love to learn all I can. As a boy we saved our corn and peas but I didnt pay any attention to how they were preped and saved. |

Mrs. Obama has already dug up the White House lawn and started a garden, wonder if she'll go to jail for growing her own? |

Preacher is right about it not being as simple as pulling dry pods. Some plants are bienniel seed producers and some produce every year. The book "Seed To Seed at Amazon.com gives great info on seed saving. Better start this year if you haven't already because as with most things the doing and the telling of it are two different things.

I agree the book seed to seed is a must have. Do it now and get proficient at it while you have time. For corn, What has been working for me is putting a little white ash from the wood stove in with the seeds. Now a days we have the weevil eggs that will hatch out durring storage. The ash is so fine the weevils suffocate. |
